  1. I wonder how the 'purist' Quentin Tarentino goes about his pre-planning, if he is really 'old-school' -he shoots from the hip.
  2. THANKS! Great explanation as always, Robcat! It looks like Penumbra then is a Zbuffered approach to doing the same effect then... which begs more testing! I like the look I am getting... I also enlisted a half-half IBL lighting scenario by lowering my lights (basic A:M default 3 light scheme with tweeks) by half and turning ON IBL at 50% strength and choosing a 4K 360degree lighting image from my Element3D provided environments.
  3. Thank- You, guys- Gerald- I am intrigued by your 'area lights' approach... what do you mean by "Rays > 1" ...? do you mean set the rays to 'greater than' one? I don't always want sharp edges... would LOVE soft edges... so if I: -change shadows to Raytraced. -Set the kliegs width to a large( r) scale -Set the number of rays higher(more rays = longer render but softer edges.) -MultiPass render. (I guess I should do the 'Distribute in passes_ON option) I am surprised that the 'falloff' has nothing to do with it. BTW--- what does 'Penumbra' do...? manual speaks not of it. I am trying it! Forum ROCKS!
  4. The LONG opening sequence hints at many-many different styles of animation- some cool anime- some cool CGI... the actual show (once you get to it...) is all cheesily made CGI... quick pose to pose stuff.
  5. I am trying to get a spotlight (klieg) to have it's shadow lessen with distance... and I forget the trick! See image for illustration of what I am going after... should I use a regular bulb type light? is it the penumbra feature? How does one get this? (I recreated the effect I want in Photoshop here...)
  6. Yeah! Real cool! Can't wait to see it painted-up and living within your 1950 era cityscape!
  7. Cool! What is the liquid- I don't see anything liquidy?
  8. Storyboarding is usually just a phase which is meant to explain to the 'money-people' what the flow of imagery they are paying for will look like, in 3D it is typical that once you have your scene setup a better camera angle will present itself... There is a piece of gaming software out there called SFM or Source Film Maker that is gaining popularity, basically allowing people to make movies right in the gaming engine.
  9. "...These lightweight renders are all you need to bring into After Effects..." It gets confusing when they show C4D exporter... makes me wonder- do you need C4D to access those features? A:M can output nice lightweight renders too... is C4D integral... exclusive? BUT- just being able to use AE as an onion-skinning ink-n-paint animation environment would be GREAT! BONUS would be if A:M plays nicely with that 3D tracker feature! ADOBE ANIMATE will be a whole another creature. I've been following the threads via Adobe and there is a lot of confusion about what it will be/should be/needs be. It is clear to see that Adobe does not understand the needs of traditional animators who are a vocal minority amongst the HTML5-ers and the gamers and the coders. In the final days of Flash the brush tool had become 'broken' for people using Wacom tablets and dual monitors... they are having trouble sorting that problem out as they migrate the code to AA... people are asking (wisely so) that Adobe make all the brush/pen tools similar across Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and Animate, so that nozzles, pressure-sensitivities, look-and-feel be the same from app to app to app. It makes sense, and I hope Adobe listens and abides. $100 seems a very fair price if it is a workflow that is highly adaptable.
  10. https://www.facebook.com/aescripts/videos/956695491034110/ AE Scripts has a new hand-drawn cel animator that lives within After Effects... Looks like they have a cool 'decal' mode that tracks to CGI renders like AM would render... If I am seeing it correctly. Have not looed into price yet.
  11. Robcat- awesome! Dig the low notes!
  12. I hope everyone is warm, fat and happy tonight. Sugarplums and pear-trees... Heres my Xmas eve Jets Puzza Facebook animation: https://www.facebook.com/JetsPizza/videos/10156304346520177/
  13. Great GAGS! Those are hard to come-up with too!
  14. Yeah- ooops! Sorry Mark. I have sent you my mugg-shot, after a prodding from Robcat!
  15. Like a depth-of-field effect? I thought about it, but it kinda goes against the clean cartoony look... plus, it would take rendering-out level passes for comping/blurring... I'm trying to keep it simple. As it is, my AE comp is pretty deep. That is weird that you (forum admin) have wonky access privileges like that!
  16. New Years. Tom (hash model) makes an appearance in this one to help fill-in a crowd. JetMan_Dec31_small.mov
  17. Sneek Peek! This one will be Jet's Christmas greeting. I was able to convince them to use a '3D Jetman'... they really just wanted a 2D animation, and the stuff they did before in 2D was mega-shlocky IMHO. I told them it is much easier for me to do in 3D nowadays- with a toon shader... once I have the model made then future animations are just that much easier too, and I am hoping this will evolve into lots of future animations. The character was rigged using the Saucy rig. JetMan_Dec24_small.mov
  18. https://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=47437&p=406851 Weird... try this linker. It is in the Contributors Cue search for Pinetree.
  19. Okay- finally got back around to this and finished RIGGING a character with the SAUCY rig! It is nice, easy install, minimal bones(compared to TSM2) and seems easy enough to animate with... GREAT finger controllers! One feature I don't see that I would use ALL the TIME with my TSM2 characters is the ability to have the arms and legs on a stretch slider... comes in handy when you just can't reach something or keep a foot on the ground with an obtuse pose or action... or with my 'Tireman' character having a large tire for a torso sometimes his little arms could not reach around the body to do a simple action or pose. I think I can add this slider in myself tho... Also great documentation! I recommend this going forward as a TSM2 replacement. I really-really appreciate this rigger!
  20. Thank-You for all the nice words! I have decided to upload the tree model used in this animation for everyone who may want it... it is a handy model to have around! xhttps://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=47437&hl=
  21. The things I loved about Flash and hope they get carried forward... are the animation tools, brushes, onion-skin AND the easy INTERACTIVITY it offered. Anything could be a button which could trigger anything else, you could set random things to happen as well. If they can bring that 'gaming' sensibility forward to Adobe Animate would be great.
  22. Just finished a holiday Facebook animation for the Jets Pizza Franchise, turned out nice! I am trying to get more work from them... The snow was made using my 'snow machine' which is available in the Contributors Cue forum... the hand is from my 'Hat Guy' featuring SSS skin... the fire was just a video of a fire placed on a patch in the scene... the flickering lights on the tree was a 2nd pass added additively in AE, I set a light to lens flare with 'fade behind objects' on, and made a 'scribble' in 3-dimensions and used the 'sweeper' wizard the sweep dimension to it, placed it in front of the lights(I had placed in the chor on the christmas tree, and rendered only them ON) and rotated it making the lights dim as it passed in front. The feather pen, and pinetree was a model I had already made... the fireplace, inkwell, walls window and Christmas tree decorations were all I had to make. I used a 'constrain to' constarint to hold the pen to the hand and animated it on/off to pick-up/put/down. I did not use an 'orient like' but rather just animated the pens to look like it was scribing and being held... This is about all you will ever get from me as far as a Christmas Card...! Animation can be seen on Facebook if you search for the Jets Pizza page. Jets Facebook_1Csmall.mov
  23. Mindblowing! Until you mentioned it I had no idear... these are BIG days in Adobe-land, who announced last night at midnight that they have 'officlally' pulled the plug on Flash, which has a lot of people upset... my Adobe forum is abuzz. I just can't get my mind around the concept of 'character animating in Photoshop'... somehow I feel it may be akin to animating in Poser, where they brag that you can- but you never really see any good samples coming forth. There is a lot to learn! From Adobe: Hey Guys, Recognizing the platform agnostic nature of the product and the fact that it can output to multiple platforms including Flash/AIR, HTML5 Canvas, WebGL and even custom platforms, we’ve decided to rename Flash Professional to Adobe Animate CC. You can find more details here - http://blogs.adobe.com/flashpro/ I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all on behalf of the entire Flash Professional team for being so wonderfully supportive for all our efforts. We look forward to work with you to make Animate CC the best animation tool ever. Thanks, Ajay
  24. For those of us too lazy to look into the project... is that particle based? Very COOL!
  25. You are playing to A:M's strengths really well... KEEP IT UP!
