  1. Sure A:M offers a very good value for its price!

But what I don't like is to be forced into that subscriptonmodel and the lack of generosity and kind of

"Small thinking" from hash in that respect.

I own two other comercial apps that grant me to use 3 seats under one licence and leave me the choice of

Msa or buying the licence once or for all.

Also that licenseterms, that forbid you to transfer your license and cd are hardly legal at least in europe.

At least this pagelong very complicated legaltalk is more bound to drive one aspiring user from Venezuela

away (and give a bad impression to others) who would buy the license probably anyway later, when starting to make real use of A:M .

I think in simplyfing things and being more generous also the company would benefit.

  2. Blender would be perhaps a good choice, if you plan to break in the industrie somehow for compabilityreasons

because they all use polgonbased apps.

Also it has a very fast developmentpace at the moment still gaining momentum.

A:M is mostly taken care of by Yoda and a very mature app by now and a very good choice for an independent artist

    or small team.

It would be great to have a renderconnection from A:M to cycles to get the best from both worlds.

  3. Hi Fuchur,

Thank you for clarifing things to me.

When I see examples of peoples work with differentp hysical renderers, I also notice huge differences in looks and quality.

Is this due to huge differences between software or could that outstanding quality I see

with Maxwell or Arnold especially in the cartoonlook sector also be achieved with the

    other programms?

Maybe its a question of eachs specific materialsystem?

  4. Easy: I dont own a Nvidia-Card but only ATI-graphic cards as many other people do too and creating a "feature" which can not be used by 50% (or more) of the users (since ATI is often faster for games and is often less expensive people like to buy AMDs) while there is an alternative which can handle both manufacturers, it is just a logical choice for A:M to use something that helps potentially 100% of the users instead of 50%.

In general I like standards better which are supporting as many systems as possible. CUDA has advantages (tends to be a little faster) but it just has too many disadvantages in the other direction and OpenGL has other advantages too (for instance you can access CPU-power with the same commands too, which is not possible with CUDA), it is widely useable, etc.

    See you

    *Fuchur*

Thanks, I didn:t knew that. Thought Cuda would be necessary for all gpu rendering.

Wonder why the Octanepeople exclude all the rest?

  5. >While it is a nice renderer, it only support Nvidia-Cards and that is a no-go for me.

    >be connectable to A:M

Therfore I would "vote" for a full "plug-in" octane integration.

  6. Good idea generally, but I believe the Octane people wont have the time and resources for that.

They will make it up for the major players first as their priority.

But it seems, they wont charge anything and help out, when the specific comunity does it for

themselves (see like for c4d or blender).

So maybe the best way would be to kickstarterfund the most effective workingpower of some

Softwareguru around here like Steffen or Fuchur?

(In fact an implementation would mean a really huge kind of "update" for A:M)

Also: the envidiasituation you described was many, many years ago by now.

They will be probably much more helpfull nowadays.

Else the octane people would hardly have been succsessfull in their endeveaur.

  7. Hi John,

    Very interesting workflow.

What exactly is a "decal driven material"?

Cycles seems to be under heavy development and aimed to be optimized for animations.

As far as I understand it needs nvidiacards with cuda and direct X 11 to work with gpu.

Qualitywise its aiming as a physical render at the likes of v-ray, mentalray, even arnold and maxwell in the longer run

    and its free.

So this pipeline would be a great enforcement for A:M if workable.

Lighting you can do easily by adding simple planes with lightemitting materials. Also has a capeable nodebased materialeditor.

  8. You will have to take into account, that the A:M 9 release was the most unstable release ever, if I remember correctly.

Luckily these days are far past gone now.

(I had more then one unfriendly conversation with Mr. sappington in that time on the old e-mail list)

  9. Yet another prophecyfailure.

I feel kind of sorry for all these disapointed esotericguys today.

Guess the end of the world will come, when we least expect it...

  10. These machines look interesting, but it seems, they aren`t available in Europe.

Also don´T know about the software. Can they work with .stl files ?

Seems the milling topic has yet to be discovered for the 3d modeling hobbyist.

A cheaper aquvalent to JWx 30 Roland (the 15.000,- ) would be great....

  11. Hi Stian,

Very sorry to hear about your health problem. Glad you are better now and wish you all the best for your new dayjob.

    Have a good start.

I always hoped for you to be succsessfull to aquire enough freelancework for making a living from that.

(In fact, I thought, you were just doing that)

But not at the price of severe back and health problems.

And Fuchur, I am sorry for hijacking your thread a bit here too.

I opened up a new thread for the milling topic...

    all the best

    Jake

  12. Since I dont want to kidnap Fuchurs very interesting thread about the Replicator 2, I open a new thread here:

The contrary technique of milling could become very interesting also, because it has a higher resolution and allows "massproduction",

though the cost of such a Panthograph milling machine must be very high.

Even the 15.000,- for a JWx 30 Roland are far out of range even for the ambitious hobbyist.

A pity and even a bit strange, that there is no online service yet for milled items

similar to what Sculpteo oder Shapeways are offering for printed items.

I would always prefer that for casual items, because you don`t have the dirt and mustnt care about the technical stuff at your house.

Nevertheless while googeling I found this:

    http://www.mydiycnc.com/full_product

and there`s also the imodela from Roland

Originated from a kickstartercampaign and with a very interesting price.

Don`t know about the quality though..

and there`s also the imodela from Roland
