  1. Hi MikeV,

I think you showed great commitment already in posting so much about your proceedings and having us witness so closly, how a beginner can have to struggle to get into AM. It was quite interesting for me to follow this thread.

And Rodney surly didnT mean to insult you or anything, but much better tried to provoke you into showing some more patience and persistence.

Naturally it would have been a succsess for us all, if you would have stayed, because you showed so much engagement

This community is by far the most friendly and helpfull bunch of people, I ever had the pleasure to molest with my silly questions.

Its infact one of the major "features" of AM.

so good luck on your 3d path and don`t walk away in anger

    ;>) Jake

  2. Hi MikeV,

Jts all about spline continuity. You can always check edgeloops hiting the spline and the comma key.

If something really won'T work, don't break your head finding out why, simply break splines

And delete cps til your reach your goal.

You can live well without ever touching the biashandles.

(there was a time, when they had some disadvantages so i never used them ever since)

AM is sometimes a bit sturdy , the 5 pointers always have been, but you get used to it.

(peaking is always last step ,because it will make it harder to judge splinecontinuity.)

  3. Hi Chris,

    Very nice work indeed!

Is this shown on a kind of Chinese "you tube" or "Vimeo"?

the first demo is for a smartphone game?

I would try that direction jobwise creating smartphone game apps.

I don't know, if you can sell from china to the android and apple app market though?

I have been to China many times as a designer for decorational items (christmas, easter, etc.)

    Mostly to Xiamen and nearby.

Very nice and enthusiastic and dedicated people over there developing their country at a fast pace.

I wish you all the best of luck for you and your company

    ;-) Jake

  4. Hi Robcat,

Don't want to step in your way, but from the point of astethics i defintily have to second your city council in that the chindel look much better and fit better to the old style of the house, but thats just a matter of personal taste.

Maybe there are still other possibly advantages?

Lower noise on impact (rain), better to repair in smaller parts, better room climate?

    Just guessing.

    Good luck in this endeavour!

PS: Maybe the metalroof would look better in black and they might have it with a sligthly roughed surface.

I think, i have seen something like that in denmark

I guess, the work is done much faster in putting on some bigger metalsheets than all these tiny chindles?

Could you post the adress from that metalroofcompany, i am curious?

  5. >Wings3D to model and another app to setup animate and render

I was just surfing around and wondering, if this app would be continued, not because I use it,

but just because I find it strange, that they made such a promohype ( you know that: if we find

so and so much buyers we give it to you for 5 $ - thing) and then.......... nothing more

, no real info whats going on and Wegg seems to be involved somehow as well

with no news from him since quite some time.

So just pure curiosity about these strange business ways and their possible backgrounds...

(There was a similar thing short time later with that city-builder app company, that turned

    belly up short time after....)

  6. Does somebody happen to know whatever happened to William Egginton, who once contributed also to this community here later migrated to that other app with that strange new promoconcept ,that didn'T quite work out - at least for the customers- and now seems to have mysteriously disappeared?

  7. The real difference for me would be build in wacom style pressure sensiitivity.

When they offer a tabletdevice with that technology, i m sold.

(could be as well be the next i-pad)

Though win 8 would offer the great advantage to me, that i could use all my software on it...

  8. I was really disapointed, the best herochara being the asistant of Nick Fury and the funniest scene, when Hulk beat up Loki stating ("mediocre god")

(Tony Stark was good as always though.)

I liked the Ironman movies and Thor was fun too, even F4 is far more entertaining.

Loki is a quite lame boring chara in my eyes

and also I think its the last time I took that 3D rip-off in cinemas!

Only going to watch these kind of movies on DVD in the future WITHOUT 3D.

And the grouping of superheroecharas comes out kind of negative as well, cutting eachs heroicness down severly by

    each of the others.

Could have seen "Battleship" that evening instead, which would probably have been the far better choice then.

But...naturally that`s only my personal point of view not intended to spoil the movie for the ones, who like it.

  9. I would say you or/and the production company own the (construction) files, the client just bought the finalproduct> movie animation file,

except if not extra payed also for the "construction"-files, which you generally wouldn`t do, because you risk to loose that client, because he could

then transfer your work to cheaper laborous. (same with photoshop, indesign or architectural data, you don`t sell your "secrets", that your competion could work with, but a finished house.)

To give them away out of good will for the reasons Fuchur stated, for instance to have a chance to stay in touch with certain clients, is another thing, that should be considered from case to case.

In this case I too would take the opprtunity to charge for the conversion of your files (that amount should just for you also include, what these files are worth to you), so everybody is happy and you get some unexpected extrafee.

  10. I am a great fan of his work since the old classic "Heavy Metal"/ "Metal Hurlant" days, when he created stuff like "Arzach", "the airtight garage" and "Major Grubert".

His Style was so inovative and new back then.

He never has been a really great storyteller though ( same like Uderzo)

His John Difool/ Jodorwsky stuff kind of drifted off into uninteresting esoteric nonsense (storywise) then.

And later he kind of vanished into the movie/storyboard business limbo, where much of his work

wasn`t published anymore but just wip help for the movies.

Somehow a pity for us comicbook enthusiasts, but I guess, he managed a comfortable living that way.

Lately I discovered him also being Gir and the artist of Leutenant Blueberry western series, which are really great also storywise (Charlier is it, if I am right).

(On a sidenote: He also was great inspiration for Miyazaki, when he created the Nausicaä manga.)

To me he is one of the most important Comicbook artists of all times together with artists like Barks, Franquin, Herge, Tezuka, Corben, and a few others.

  11. Hi there,

Please let me ask a question related to the new "retopolgy" tool.

Could I bring in an obj complete with uvs and texturemaps, normalmaps etc.

then retopo in AM without breaking these?

(to animate and export later to a gameengine)

  12. Hi jimd,

Thank you for the very interesting info.

    I will investigate this.

What is the best resolution for kindle (Jutoh)

As for Apple, I doubt, that I could get an developer license with my content...

But I guess I can live without a developer license, if using Lulu maybe

I would need a free isbn from Lulu then.

    Is this comicpage your work?

(sigh, a pity I prepared all in 768x1024 now, well back to the drawingboard)

  13. Hi Roger,

    This is very easy.

You have to have an amazon account, which I believe many of us already have.

Then you go to your bookself at kdp kindledirect publishing, where you can upload

your own books to the pulbic or just for you.

I created mine with the free Mobi pocket creator by just doing a photoalbum.

The quality though is not very good due to high compression rate of the jpg.

    (and that`s done automatically)

So the wording gets difficult to read.

I think ,you can get better results by creating html pages and convert them to e-pub.

This format is also obligatory for the apple store, so one more reason to create one.

(If you don`t own a Mac you can reach the applestore by way of LuLu)

The problem is, there is no template for comicbooks yet, so I am also quite lost for the time being

    in achieving satisfying results.

Guess we have to check forums for e-book comicbooks and the like.

    What I found so far:

There is the free converter calibre, that can convert comicbookzips (cbz) into e-pub

I will experiment with that one next> Just zip your comicpages (jpg), rename the zipfile to cbz

and then let calibre convert to e-pub

Do you need a comicbook also,by the way?

Please keep me up to date, what you find out ont his topic...
