  1. I *must* be crazy 'cause I'm posting these... The first is a pencil drawing (five minutes with a kid crawling over me--that's my excuse). The second, one drawn on a dry erase board (two minutes). I'm *trying* to emulate the style I originally drew the above picture in 10 years ago. Need more warm up I guess... Very different girls... I'll let you decide if there is any value there. Possible side view... coming up!
  2. For anyone joining... Javier has agreed to assist with the transformation of of one of my (2D) characters to 3D. Thanks too much, Javier! I have agreed to donate the model to the A:M community and (also) donate to the Hash Fellows a sum of money toward plugin creation once the model is complete. We are posting progress here so that all may learn from the experience. I cannot speak for Javier, who most likely is doing the hard work here... but comments are welcome along the way... This is one of the pictures I created approximately 10 years ago. One other version of this same picture may exist that I colored but I don't have any leads on what box it may be hiding in... Things known thus far: - The girl is approximately 6 1/2 feet tall (with boots) - Hair Red - Eyes Green - Face roughly in the style of John Byrne, whom I may add, is about to launch the latest rendition/revival of DC comics Doom Patrol! You can peek in on the forum he regularly posts to at: www.byrnerobotics.com Note: There is much that must change in the basic design to make it 3D friendly. Most noticable to me... the joints in the legs. I'll post some additional drawing as I reacquaint my fingers with a pencil... Most of the stuff I've drawn in the past few years I've drawn directly into a computer via WACOM tablet. Have I missed anything Javier?
  3. ...and might I add... he said "with only one light". Where did you put the light?
  4. Wish I was rich... If I was I'd buy you an upgrade... Have you considered modeling characters in exchange for the money for an upgrade? You make splining look easy!
  5. Looks Japanese Anime CG to me! All heads look better with a body. (Well, they do... and yours does too) ... now wondering what adventures he'll be embarking on...
  6. Graham, There are many different "anime" styles so take the following as it's intended. For the hair I'd suggest using a lot of exageration... Thicken up the middle-give it some volume. If that doesn't fit the over all style you are going for... disregard. I prefer the cartoony "anime" versus the straight "anime" look but that' me. Looks like you are going for the straight look. Don't forget the anime eyebrows etc. Here are two pics from about 10 years ago. Ideas that I would like to revisit someday. Not necessarily good examples (of art or anatomy) but I see an opportunity to publish so I'm taking it... Looks like you are going for more of the 'realistic' look on the left... Looking forward to the approach *YOU* take! *Added: I'd also suggest simplifying the nose to get 'the anime look'.
  7. WoW! That is... WoW! The Hash Guys will want a poster, I'm thinking. Reminds me of the days I'd flip through Cartoon Magazine wishing I could draw cars like they did.
  8. I wish my brain could absorb what you just typed but it's gonna have to sleep on it first. My brain can comprehend the results of your picture though and it responds... Wow... I need to use that technique. Excellent work (as always) Greg!
  9. This is really awesome. Reminds me of someone... just can't figure out who. The hair, skin, makeup... really neat. Has a japanese feel to it... Please forgive my posting the picture here. I'll remove it if you say so. I was afraid people might give up if they couldn't paste the link correctly. Do you have a spline shot?
  10. Starv, I like... your Gallery shows quite a variety of styles... interesting. From cute to um... interesting. Now that you have Flash, I look forward to seeing where you'll be heading. As for me... More cute robot stuff please!
  11. MYKYL, I'm sure you've seen some of the splines layouts that people such as Jim Talbot have put together but it may have been while you were in 'research' mode. I would seek out such information as the simplicity yet detail is unparrallel. If you are going to run before you walk... at least do it like Mr. Talbotski! I wouldn't be surprised if something like the following inspired you to purchase A:M in the first place: Jim Talbot's splinage on his last WIP
  12. No pressure... Just the entire A:M Community watching... Relax, it'll take everyone a while to go through all the cool stuff on your site!
  13. MYKYL, I was just thinking, as I do that occasionally... Have you tried to complete any of the tutorials that came with A:M? I really should go back and do a couple myself. They teach you some important things that are entirely too easy to overlook if you just dive right in. Just my 2 cents.
  14. BUMP With this month's contest topic being comic page related your anime techniques may be of value to someone. Not to mention I want to see you post more!!! So... post already...
  15. My vote for the funniest critique this week. ... or maybe I'm just tired. for the record... I agree Maybe round off the ears to get a more dog-like shape. or droop them down to the sides.
  16. WOW! Looking good! Making very good progress. The last two pictures look a bit dark but maybe that's just the computer I'm on...
  17. Really starting to take shape. Keep posting!
  18. Looks good from here. At a glance proportions seems to be correct. Reminds me of an aunt of mine... As far as posing an image goes: Use the IMG button to paste the link to your image This will place the picture in the post as opposed to placing a link there.
  19. Not bad at all! I'd post a pic of my first character but, thankfully it's sitting on a harddrive that isn't attached to a computer at the moment. If you haven't seen the other posts concerning "Maintaining curvature" with the SHIFT key please take note. That will allow you to add detail to your model without damaging it in the process. Can't remember... Did you say you were modeling in V10.5 or v11?
  20. Making excellent progress. I'd like to say as well that your posts are demonstrating the techniques in outstanding form as well. Should convince a few more people to experiment with stitching details into their models as well. Keep splinin'.
  21. Are you considering posting progress here in the WIP section or are you going into stealth mode for the production? I'd like to see it here if possible.
  22. Looks good! Llooks like you (and your character!) are getting good exercise in these animation contests. Can you vary the camera angle in these contests? or are there rules that limit your option? I guess what I'm saying is... you look like you've got the animation down to a science... adding things that don't increase your rendertime past the deadline could improve your results in the contest and hone your skills even more. I don't know what is allowed to be prebuilt- such as decals, shaders, props etc. I assume that pretty much *everything* must be built within the 4 hour timespan. As you can find time maybe you could render out a few patches using shaders that could be applied as image maps. Maybe set up a camera rig with multiple camera from a variety of angles. When rendering, pick the angle that works best for that scene or theme. Just a couple suggestions. Your doing fine just as you are though. Keep it up!
  23. John, Thanks for another "Now why didn't I think of that... moment". Great design for your city. Will be perfect for your heroes to live in. Keep posting!
  24. Superheroes will rule this forum yet! ... or is it Supervillians... Makes me feel homesick for the 'ol days; (Make Mine Marvel!) There I feel better now. Nerrazi, You are definitely heading in the right direction. I'm likin' in much! John, They're trying to squeeze you out! Post something to put 'em back in their places.
  25. I just dropped back in to watch it again.... Strange, alluring... and better viewed at highest possible resolution In other words... good job!
