Well, that's good news! :)

I didn't care for 7 or 8 but 8.1 has been very reliable.

Hopefully 10 won't be too rough around the edges.

I see this note tucked in the article as well:

Unexpectedly, it unveiled a holographic lens device that allows users to see three-dimensional renderings of computer-generated images. Microsoft HoloLens, which looks like a wireless visor, raises the stakes in the emerging market for virtual and augmented reality, being targeted by Facebook Inc's Oculus and Google's Glass project.

The device will be available around the same time as Windows 10 this autumn, a Microsoft executive said.

Interesting.

In general, people underestimate Windows 8.1. With a view clicks you can configure it to look quite the same as WIndows 7 with a few additions. I am using mainly Windows 7 but on my laptop I have WIndows 8.1 and I can work with both equally well. Never understood that Shitstorm against it... Windows 8 might be another story though....

Windows 10 brings back the Startmenü as we know it with additions to it. But it is still Flatdesign. If you don't like that, you are out of luck ;).

Microsoft is late on this as always.

Lets see what Oculus and Google glases might be offering by this time in September.

Fascinating times. Seems technology is gaining momentum:

I don't recall specifics about 7. If you'd have asked me about 8 I'd have a plate full of reasons to share.

At a guess I'd say WIn 7 introduced some features that made it slightly harder to organize my desktop (this was the era where I moved to the Chrome browser because Explorer became unusable so that overshadowed any more minor issues with Win 7.

7 worked. 8 was very frustrating and I immediately upgraded to 8.1 upon release. 8.1 restored basic functionality they should have considered more carefully before taking away.

It would be cool if Hololens could used to display an A:M modeing environment in front of you, if you could draw splines in the air with some marker you held in your hand.

No word that I can see on developer access to it yet, however.
