Darkwing
I was just looking at my profile on here and saw when I joined this forum which then reminded me of when I first purchased AM. I don't remember the exact date, but it was about this time 6 years ago that I received Animation:Master, V13 in a nice box with a wonderfully printed TAoAM and that was the beginning into all this! So 6 years, kinda crazy (at least for me, I know some of you folks have been around much, much longer!) Anyways, it's been crazy, fun and I hope 6 and more years of playing around with AM! PS. I still have yet to complete an animated short or anything

Admin Rodney Posted August 20, 2012 Admin Share Posted August 20, 2012 You may not have finished a short film but you are creating quality work. Both of you! Congrats on the milestone!
largento
Congrats! My profile shows that I joined in '04, but it wasn't until '07 that I updated my A:M and gave it a serious try. So, you've been doing this longer than me.
Darkwing
Yea its been 10 years for me Most impressive!! You may not have finished a short film but you are creating quality work. Both of you! Congrats on the milestone! Thanks! As I see it, there's more than one way to show progress and though a completed film of some sort is one way of showing it, I think I've still shown progress because I've learned so much! And of course a lot of it is due to all you fine folk around here! But yeah, I'm no longer afraid to show off my models for instance The joy of it is that there's still so much more to learn! Life becomes dull without learning and AM and the art surrounding it is filled with an infinite amount of learning IMO and I look forward to it! Congrats! My profile shows that I joined in '04, but it wasn't until '07 that I updated my A:M and gave it a serious try. So, you've been doing this longer than me. Wow! Then I can say first hand you've come a long way too! I remember being quite intrigued in the Stalled Trek project when you first started. I remember actually being disappointed when you shelved it to work on Wannabe, but in retrospect it was definitely a good move because now we have both Wannabe and Stalled Trek!! thejobe
Yea there are still many things I need to learn. I spent most of my time on modeling. Just trying to get into animation now and its going slow But I have learned a lot. The first box I got was version 9 (I forgot what the cover looked like) and I was just amazed by it. I found the program from this guy who was making a flash game online using A:M for the character models. Just blew me away. So I took my summer Job money and bought it. Took me like 3 months to make a coffee mug (first model) then I just went off from there For some reason it was easy for me to grasp on how to model. (Humans still give me problems. )
Darkwing
Yeah, I think I bought it because at the time I was just fiddling around the Anim8or and thought it was time to move onto something a little more heavyweight. I recall searching for 3D apps on the web and found a list of like the "10 best 3D Software" or something and AM was quite high on that list. It probably went like the really big ones (Maya, Max, etc) but of course they're very pricey but then next one down was AM and was only 300 dollars. I started saving for it but then my Aunt bought it for me I think! so we have her to thank for getting me started in AM I guess!!
largento
I remember there was a story about it getting an OSX version. I'd never heard of it before, but it seemed like a great deal for the price. My early attempts with it were embarrassing. There were some core principles I wasn't aware of. A few years later, I got the bug again and after playing with some other software, discovered that I liked A:M's way of doing things better and updated my software. Thankfully, Barry Zundel came out with his great tutorials at the time and that gave me all those missing pieces. Still, I needed to know a lot more and have much more experience before I was ready for Stalled Trek. The Wannabe Pirates gave me that. I don't think the first version would have turned out as well. Darkwing
I agree. For one, Stalled Trek now has a somewhat different visual style which I think adds a layer of uniqueness to it, kinda like your own personal signature on the whole thing
TheSpleen
4 years for me

Yeah, the years spent on the Wannabe Pirates were indeed worthwhile. As hard as it was to do the 5 days-a-week schedule, it meant I was using A:M every day of the week for a couple of years. That's great practice for anyone. Hopefully I'll get better at the animation down the road, but even as it is, I'm pretty damned proud of it. 4 years for me Gene, we'll all be lucky if we can catch up with your number of shorts when we reach 20 years! :-)
