*A:M User* Roger Posted July 26, 2012 *A:M User* Share Posted July 26, 2012 Fellow AM'ers Don't know if you have been following the thread about Robcat's epic hail-damaged roof. Long story short, Rob has no homeowner's insurance and will need a new roof. I thought maybe we could pitch in and help Rob defray the cost of a new roof a bit. For those who don't know Rob, he is a long-time member of the AM community and often helps out newbies (and oldbies) with AM problems. So if you have a few $ to spare and would like to help Rob out towards a new roof, I'm going to see if we can either set up paypal account to send donations to, or if Rob already has one perhaps he can give us the details. Thanks for your help on the forum, Rob. Hopefully we can help you get a new roof.
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted July 26, 2012 Hash Fellow Share Posted July 26, 2012 Hold it! The idea of getting money is indeed appealing , but you won't need to contribute to my roof. I am well-heeled enough to finance this high-altitude adventure without missing any meals. I'm itching to do it myself and the fact that that will bring it into a reasonable cost range is a bonus. So, put that money back under the mattress! Thanks, none-the-less, Roger! Now if anyone knows how to convince the city building code people to let me do this.... John Bigboote
Tell the code people 'this is what I am putting up there', but DON'T tell them you are doing it yourself. I can't believe that with this incredible task you have undertaken that you have any time at all for this forum... I sorta have a 'guilty' interest because I too have an older (1930era) house- with crazy rooflines that will need a re-roofing in about 3-5 years... just don't know if I will have enough 'youth' in me to undertake such a mission as you have. SO- are you gonna put a layer of sheet foam down under the metal roof?
Admin Rodney Posted July 26, 2012 Admin Share Posted July 26, 2012 Well... with the additional cash from donations you'd be able to put on a really snazzy roof. (or if able to hire someone to assist not have to worry as much about falling off!)
*A:M User* Roger Posted July 26, 2012 Author *A:M User* Share Posted July 26, 2012 Well, I wasn't sure what your personal situation was. If I have overstepped my bounds or given offense, I apologize. I ran it by Rodney first to see what he thought. So if you'd rather, I guess Rodney could unpin the topic and lock it.
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted July 26, 2012 Hash Fellow Share Posted July 26, 2012 Worry not, even the cats will continue to get fed! SO- are you gonna put a layer of sheet foam down under the metal roof? No that's not part of the manufacturer's installation process and the building code says things need to be installed per manufacturer directions. I tear off the old roof, put on a new OSB deck, moisture barrier over that and then comes the metal roof. The problem with the city isn't that I'm doing it but that I live in a "planned development" district, somewhat like a historical district. It doesn't explicitly ban metal roofs but they aren't on list of allowed materials either. (Fun fact: the house right behind me, across the alley, would be allowed to have a metal roof. Their district doesn't define allowed roof materials) But I notice that some other properties, corporate owned, have been allowed to do things that are explicitly banned like front yard parking and illuminated signs. Rules are for the little people. Mod Note: Follow the exciting adventures of Robcat's roof via THIS TOPIC.

Wow, I was soooo close to digging up the kids' inheritance ($10 and some lint) and coming down myself to help! But if you're all set, I'll just hunker down right here and get back to splining!
