JohnArtbox Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 It's a tree. Done as a foliage test, the groundcover needs more work. Built in about 10 minutes with treeZ, the render took a lot longer. Quote
Admin Rodney Posted April 18, 2007 Admin Posted April 18, 2007 Built in about 10 minutes with treeZ, the render took a lot longer. Very nice John. I keep planning to revisit Treeez but never enough time in the day and too many other projects. Not going to tell us how long it took to render? Quote
clonewar12345 Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Hey I know how to use trees to make the trunk but how do you add the folliage? Your tree looks really good though. Quote
mtpeak2 Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Oh John, don't get me started with trees. Nice tree. Quote
williamgaylord Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 That is some amazingly good looking foliage! Especially if it was easy to set up. I would love to hear how you did it! Is it perhaps adaptable to animating the foliage growing (like a time-lapse movie)? My growing tree animations (here) have been collecting dust on the shelf since I had so much trouble getting the foliage to look natural and lush without causing rendering problems. Guess it might be time to dust the project off and try some of the new possibilities for foliage. This is the gist of what I was working on: Growing Tree Animation ...and one branch: Growing Branch Animation My full-blown tree took several hours to render just one frame: Tree Oh John, don't get me started with trees. Mark, I know you've been working on trees from way back! Thanks for your help in the past! Bill Gaylord Quote
Kelley Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Built in about 10 minutes with treeZ... TreeZ? Quote
Caroline Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Information about the Treez plugin: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=26049 There's a whole forum devoted to A:M features, so it is really good to go and surf here occasionally - I just saw one I'd forgotten about: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showforum=112 Quote
JohnArtbox Posted April 18, 2007 Author Posted April 18, 2007 Rodney: Render time was just shy of three hours on my 1.8 centrino tablet. Clonewar: The foliage is a custom fur material MtPeak: Fun aren't they Bill(and anyone else interested): I've attached the tree model file for anyone who wants to pull it apart. tree.zip I'm not sure how well the hair would animate for growth, at a rough guess I'd animate a single branch from beginning growth to leafy final, and then map that onto the hair as an image sequence. In theory it would work Robert: One of the fabulous zpider plugins Quote
williamgaylord Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Thanks, John! I'll check out the project and then run some experiments of my own. By the way, which vintage of A:M did you use? 13.0 or 14? Quote
Logrus Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Damn it i need to upgrade my junk fast, Everything cool is 12 and up an im stuck at 11.1z. Ohh how painfully close.. Quote
clonewar12345 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 So did you like set a leaf image for the fur? It looks really good. Quote

gazzamataz Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 I like that tree. Makes my ones look positively shabby. I have been tempted to update my own trees but with those render times and the amount of time spent making them... I would never get anything else done. Quote
