  1. yeah, that's probably a wise thing to do
  2. here's something i've been lighting in the modeling window, the last pic in the thread shows my almost most recent update: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...36154&st=45
  3. in modeling mode and in the non render view, it does appear black in non lit areas, and those areas that are lit are dim. i do my lighting when i'm all done the modeling aspect and use the model window o position the lights while i have the set in a non lit chor and render it in the chor window to see how it looks.
  4. very very elaborate. this really will be your best one yet
  5. somebody should do an MJ animation, I imagine it would be quite the action challenge!
  6. yeah, i just added the music, your timing is good BTW
  7. i always just light my sets in the model itself in bones mode. that way my lights stay exactly where i want them and for the same intensity, no matter what i do with the set. and as for the light types, bulb just gives an overall lighting effect, it's sort of a cross between the klieg and sun. klieg is a directional light, think of it as a spotlight, and sun adds light to the direction it points.
  8. ok, that was asking for this: MJ.mov it kind of freeze frames at the end, you have garage band to thank for that
  9. i guess that would do it too. in Lew's version, he would render out two separate video layers and add them in the post-production stage in an editing software.
  10. crap, he went and updated his site after all these years. ok, it went something like this: the bullet effect used a material effector i think, and it worked fine, except when in close proximity to the characters, because then it would cut out a bit of the character. so what he did was render one with the bullet and effect, and one with just the character, and he would place the character one over the bullet effect one. i can't remember if he used chroma key or alpha channels, but you could experiment with video layers
  11. look at jeff lew's website. he ran into a similar problem when doing the matrix style bullets, but found a way around it. he had it poted on his site a long time ago
  12. dang. so when do the tickets go on sale to be a passenger in that....say what...it's not real? you're sure it's not real......you're absolutely positive that is not a real ship i am looking at now..no....darn. honestly, very impressive job. now throw in your application to ILM
  13. really can't wait!!!! keep up the good work
  14. don't forget bashing head against wooden board when frusterated, that happens through the whole process though
  15. well, 10 times better then anything organic i've ever modeled
  16. well, once i've designed the uniforms for Earth Link, I'll dress her up and post it
  17. well, if they come pre-rigged too, then you will be my best friend of the day This will be a massive amount of help!
  18. will this be for the community use, because i was going to ask if there were some people start models like this that i might use in earth link zero
  19. or nothing at all, just: And when we go to play in parks Our Mums get cross if our clothes get dirty marks I know a lot of generic poetry doesn't utilize any sort of punctuation between lines, so perhaps go for the same effect(?)
  20. B9, a B29 is a bomber plane i think
  21. and it happened to me to, ok, screwing the edit, going for the good ol double post!
  22. yeah, i hate the edit feature as no one knows you've edited, but i said it says 1956 in some countries and 57 in others
  23. kk, thanks, though I believe it was 1957 for forbidden planet, but i'll double check, it could be similar to metropolis in the fact that the release dates on the film vary between 1925 and 1927 EDIT: According to IMDB it was released in some countries in 1956 and some others in 1957
  24. just a quick note, robbie isn't the one that trafalz is building here, robbie is from the forbidden planet and looks somewhat different, though i don't know which was first, lost in space or forbidden planet
  25. and i can say from experience that if the normals in the wrong directions, then 3ds max will not show those patches and causes those patches to be transparent.
