  1. I have to ask: What makes it a Mac if it's using Intel hardware and a Microsoft OS (other than it can also run a MacOS)? Does Apple do something special/unique to the Hardware config? I'm assuming it's using integrated intel graphics? Yes , not the best way to do it. There must be PC's with that config? Is this CPU just for Macs? or can any lapbook/laptop use? There are PC's with that cpu. Its not even a fast cpu as compared to the new XEON's I'm trying to figure out what makes this system fast (other than ver17g 64 bit in conjunction with win7 64 being fast). The CPU Its very new. What are the numbers for cache? (lots? fast?) memory? HD? (speed? SSD?), I understand this CPU can run at a burst mode up to 3.2ghz? (or something like that). Hyperthreading OFF? 4 Cores? Its got the fastest SSD in the world. Or close to it, because it connects via PCi not SATA. That does not impact AM to much though. Does 17g use anything unique to this hardware config (eg: instruction set extensions? GPU?) Dont think so This is the first time I would seriously consider getting a laptop to replace desktop PC. Macs are like getting a BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar,MCfarlin F1. In other words having a mac is having the best. Its having the best experience with a computer. Honda's are nice, They get you from A to B, Fords have improved to. But they are not the best. The only reason I ever boot into PC land is to use AM. If you are a person who has the extra cash for the best then you will not be disappointed with a mac. You do pay a lot for having the best. But I simply do not have the headaches that the PC lovers have had to learn to live with for so many years. They have lived with those in convinces for so long they see them as normal computing. I reboot and or shut down my macs about once every 2 weeks and its usually because I am going on a bussin ess meeting. When I am in PC land and working on a project I often have to reboot multiple times a day. Windows is Buggy. Windows is not intuitive as mac. I feel bad for people who believe that PC's are as good as a mac. AM is the only thing that makes be cross the line.

  3. Is anyone aware if V18 will have speed improvements?
  4. Its confirmed I have verified the settings over and over again. I have rendered identical projects in multiple PC's and macs. And to be clear I always boot into windows and run AM on the PC side of my macs. I never use the mac side for AM as it is extremely unstable. So does my computer hold the record so far? 1:55 ???? Has anyone gotten a better time? I am using AM V17g You can compare my rendered image to yours if you wish. However before crying foul I have noticed that the renders have always been slightly different from version to version. I believe I even showed evidence of this earlier in the thread. http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?s=&am...st&p=348713
  5. In short yes. All macs can run all versions of windows natively. In fact my best experience with windows has always been on a mac.
  6. I just got the new 2013 11 inch macbook air an ran the bench test. This cant be right. it rendered it in 1:57 I did upgrade to the fastest processor. Robert can you post screen grabs of the correct render settings for output. I find it hard to believe this tiny computer that fits into an envelope renders 4 minutes faster than my mac pro tower with 8 3GHZ Xeon processors.
  7. On a pc how do you transfer a subscription to another computer? anyone have the instruction link?
  8. Just saw this. As good of animation as the best ive seen in pixar.
  9. just noticed this. My hats off to you.
  10. never seen one of those in real life nice work
  11. Do you have a video tutorial for that specific in practice technique?
  12. Thank you so much Robert and Rodney My wife went into labor after I made this post. So with the new baby I was not able to comment until now.
  13. connecting with proper splinage Anyone care to take a stab at it? Unfortunately you can not just lay the 2 pieces next to the hinge because the maker bot rep 2 will not print them correctly. For the most part makerbot seems to need most things to be splinedproperly in Am. hingeV2_11.prj
  14. Yes that is torture thank you
  15. DO we have apost describing any new features in V18 ?? Or is it a surprise? The only new feature I heard of is the auto five point patch option so you dont have to manually make 5 point patches anymore.
  16. Good to know Gerald thanks
  17. Why do you suppose there is difficultly exporting to 2048 resolution? We boast how am is resolution independent aka, high resolution so I do not understand the logic in constraining the resolution on output? Large file sizes are not an issue. We live in the year 2013 not 1995. The competitors do not have a problem exporting high resolution. I am successfully printing 0.07mm layers on my 3d printer. 0.10mm is a sheet of paper for example. You would think the real world would be the bottle neck or limit. But no, the limit of resolution is my Animation masters ability to export a high res stl file. Its embarrassing when my none technical wife asks me why the models created from Am look all funcky and the models printed from sketchup a free software look all smooth. I bite my knuckles and say we are working on it. So why am I modeling with AM. Am allows you to model organic objects or curved objects better than any package I have played with. So Gerald my best friend and Steffen please consider 2048
  18. 256 will not cut it. For example: If you want to a displacement map for text on a model your printing. 256 will not be enough. A minimum in my opinion 2048.
  19. It's possible that only people beta testing v18 right now can see those so far. Basically, I described the problem and suggested adding 1024 and 4096 subdivisions as options to STL. great thank you.
  20. when I applied the split path the model got all lumpy
  21. I don't see anything. I am denied from V18
  22. The irony of having a modeling program with infinite resolution is that its stl export is lower resolution than any of its competitors. Its unfortunate because Animation master could if presented / marketed the right way could have a second wind because of the the 3d printer revolution. within 10 years 20% or more of hose holds could have a 3D printer. The bottleneck right now other than price is lack of easy to use 3D modeling software. But in our case we have the software and know how to use it but we cant get a high resolution stl file to the printer. Most people are using google sketchup, this program takes about 8 minutes to create a wine glass, as seen here As you can see AM could have a huge market here and should approach makerbot industries to form a strategic partnership. On the left is the highest AM can export from the stl plugin. On the right is sketch up You be the judge. Please dont comment and say that the 3d printer does not need that kind of resolution because the proof is in the models it prints and I can tell you and show you it does need high resolution. We are programmed to model with as few of splines as possible in AM, the problem is if you do this the stl export is so low res its useless. The only work around currently is to use an unreasonable amount of splines. If someone could just update the stl export plugin from a max of 64 to a max of 1028 we would blow away the competition in terms of ease of use and resolution.
