  1. On this subject, I'm trying to figure out the Stride Length Manipulator. It seems to have undergone some changes in recent versions and it doesn't seem to work like it used to, certainly not like it's described in TAOA:M. The instructions in the book don't make much sense. I posted a query about this maybe a year ago and got no responses. Can anyone clue me in on this?
  2. Ditto. I'm looking forward to new episodes!
  3. I clicked over here because I thought someone was creating a "walking backwards" walk cycle. That would be a real challenge!
  4. Nice test and good compression! Why not have the tablet stylus upright and moving across the tablet like it would if you were holding it, instead of having it lie there? It would be more lively.
  5. Yeah, this is done for my day job, so I do get paid. This year was a little different since I knew it was ambitious and would be a stretch to get it done, so I voluntarily spent a lot of my own time working on it. Also, we were slow for a lot of the Summer and Fall, but of course as soon as I started on this one we got very busy, so doing it on my own time was a necessity. As I've mentioned here before, ALL the work I've done on the 3D elements of my "Nightcallers" project has been on company time, (hundreds of hours modeling, decaling and rigging) so it's a pretty good trade-off to spend my own time to get this one done.
  6. that's great all around, guys! Congratulations!
  7. thanks all for your comments! I learned a ton working on this project and I couldn't have done it without the forum!
  8. Stick a fork in it... http://www.visualexllc.com/vlexholiday2009/2009Holiday.html
  9. Also one of the most heart-breaking songs ever written, but I have a weak spot for songs and stories of shipwrecks. Must have been a sailor in a previous life.
  10. Nice! Looking forward to where you're going.
  11. I like the thinner stem. But this may not be the time to start finessing details!
  12. I think the big bird's acting needs a lot of work, which kind of messes with your deadline. I prefer the original, myself. I think that little bird in her hat (or hair??) is hilarious!
  13. Nance, I think the hand move down her belly is a little too descriptive, for lack of a better word. I think just resting her hand there as if to indicate a tummy ache would be more subtle. And the facial expressions could be a bit more animated. But this is a tough sound bite to work with. Also, for some reason, when I first get a glimpse of her daisy-print undies, my eye *wants* to see red polka dots! But maybe my point is that my eye is drawn down there by the flash of color and maybe that's not a good thing.
  14. No, it's not reading well yet. I've got some timing flexibility there at the end and currently it goes by too quickly so I need to retime the whole sequence. I'll be working on that. Hopefully it won't be too painful.
  15. Good comment, Ken. The eyeblinks definitely need some work, I will take your comment into account. As for the music, this is meant to circulate only among our clients. All the Christmas animations I've done going back four years now have used copyrighted music and I would dearly love to put them up on YouTube but we try to keep a low profile, so the final animations don't get much circulation. Here's where I asked about it just yesterday...
  16. ah yes, the snail. You may think that I control the snail, but the truth is quite different. He'll actually be in for a few more frames than shown here.
  17. Here's a first draft with pretty much all the animation in place except for an effects shot where she leaps into the TV screen. Now that I've got this assembled I'll go through and make a list of everything that needs tweaking. Lots of timing issues and adjustments, (not to mention that it's practically a compendium of beginners mistakes!) and I might not have enough time allotted for some of the dream sequence, but there's some wiggle room there, and I think it will work out in the end. Comments welcome! Mastercomp_animatic_h264.mov
  18. Nice detailing, Gene, but the wheels aren't round!
  19. What are YouTube rules about copyright music? I've wanted to put some videos and animations up that use pop tunes but held back because of copyright rules, but I see unauthorized use up there all the time. Do they enforce it? Or only if someone complains?
  20. Hey speaking of keybd shortcuts I just discovered the other day that Ctrl-D hides and shows decals!! (You Mac people know what to do).
  21. That occurred to me too. My boss likes "edgy" but this may bear some more thought. And it's really just that one move. Maybe if I take one "bump" out it wouldn't be so, well, weird. edit: my wife likes it fine, so I don't know... Does it seem weird to anyone else here?
  22. How is this project coming? Are you getting bogged down in the rigging? It's looking pretty good so far.
  23. Spent a couple of hours today creating the MJ dance moves for Annie, and though it's far from perfect I think for now it will work. There's a little foot slippage but in a dance routine like this I can live with it. I haven't animated her hands as yet, and for now her face is just set in a smile. Comments welcome! 24. that's a good tip from Eric, the mesh doesn't need to be continuous. Make them separate objects and you'll save yourself a lot of pain!
