  1. David, Keep the chin up, man! You are doing a great service for the community (to say nothing of the TWO movie project)... While we all anxiously await the final results, we really appreciate your efforts and need to be patient, it will be worth the wait! Thanks, and keep on keepin' on!
  2. hmmm, Lewa11 was here and probably read Dimos' comments. Dimos is "the man" who knows what he's talking about... It's good stuff, let's see what the great Lewa has to say! And Greg, I may not have dealt with a DecWriter... but I sure remember programming the DOS ASCII code to make bill the cat going AKKK THPPT! for my C> prompt! We are old, ain't we?
  3. lookin' good! (near as I can tell from top view) Keep it up!
  4. Great animation..! I really liked it! You're only 15? Great, I oughta quit now! I got 35 years on you, kid... I can't begin to do dat! Lessee, if I catch up to where you are now, really fast, say in a year; you'll be a big shot producer/director/animator by the time I'm able to model/animate Lewa the desk and the rest. And, you won't even be out of high scrool! Yep, I oughta jes quit! Shucks!
  5. Dan, Great! I like the new design... I have a few pointers here... Gosh, I forgot how hard it is to draw with a mouse! (and MS "Imaging" stinks, too!) Lookin' Good! Wanna see it take off! [attachmentid=11886] Have FUN!
  6. Marcos! A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!! I don't think I can help you perfect it, the propeller looks "dead on" to me in the movie. This is really neat Marcos... I'm copying this whole topic to my PC! It has been very useful! I don't understand the differences/ benefits of the lighting situation (sklight rig vs spiral light)... but I'm not ready to understand that yet.
  7. Dan, I'm gonna say it again... I really like your Retro. But, I guess I'd really like to drive the beast.. and I don't think I could do that above 65-70... no fun in that. Why? You say: At speed, the hood would fly off, peel back and hit the windshield. Or at least, flap around considerably. Unless you had speed pins (60's-70's through-the-hood pins with cable attached to a snap ringed through pin. Ecch!) Glass surfaces are now moved outboard on the same plane as body skin as much as possible. This eliminates wind noise. With the recessed glass on the Retro, Wind noise would be ferocious (well, maybe not, but it would be extreme, and unneccessary). So, you asked for pix of what I was talking about as re the hood. I was looking for vehicles that had the same type of look... the Excalibur came to mind but didn't really fit... Besides which, it has side luggage latches on the hood... a faux classic look but not what the Retro seems to really be going for. So, for pix, you'll have to settle for some late model Chrysler products. Look at how the hood wraps to the cowl in both instances, and how the glass is nearly flush with the paint on the Cruiser.[attachmentid=11868][attachmentid=11869] All that said, it's your car... In the end it's just a bit of CG. And it sure is pretty, sittin' there. I just want it to be a plausible and pleasureable ride with a V12 under that long hood. Disclamer: I am not an automotive engineer, and I don't even play one on TV. But, as badly as I'd like to drive a Retro, I'm afraid the ride would bear me out. Still a good lookin' sled!
  8. Not more chrome, more crown to the hood. Side edges of the hood should wrap around to just above the marque (the lip of the hood should be along the side rather than the top). The nose of the hood should wrap down in front to around the second slat in the grille. There should be a bit more "dome" to the hood. Check out Rodger Reynolds' old green pickup truck. No, I'm not comparing a fine retro coupe to a pickup truck, it's just that the hood either needs to be inset inbetween the fenders as is the cobra's or the vette's or most other cars of that vintage, or it needs to wrap over the fenders like the old pickup truck and many newer vehicles today. At speed, with the lip of the hood "on edge" like that, a gust of wind will rip it off and risk breaking the windscreen. Adding very poor, quick and dirty PSing to try to show what I mean. [attachmentid=11844]
  9. Dan, I really like the additions! The paint looks like an old "lace" paint job, very "retro!" It looks like you've added a bit more "crown" to the hood (based on the warping of the reflection). But I still think it needs a bit more. If the side edges of he hood came down to just above the Retro marque on the side, and the nose came down about 1-2 grill "slats" I really think it would be much better... But hey, it's your car. And I like it alot.
  10. Rodger, Regardless of the crits... This is one awesome coke bottle! Now, knowing you are a modeler, and "A:M's Demographic priority" You don't intend to animate this bottle... A shame really, I't might be really interesting to see what a Coke bottle might do, if it weren't so busy holding liquid!
  11. My guess is that you projected a still onto a plane and rotated that. (plane was attched to back of nose cone) The effect "almost" works... It would be interesting to see in front of a fuselage, in a daylight scene... This might create a problem with how to make the blades appear where there is a black spot now. The "shadow" (dark reflection) on top right of the nose cone (I think) is what gives it away. But I'm just guessing! And it's still a pretty cool look! Something that could be added to a still to make it look like a photo. I wanna know if my guess is good! What'd I win?
  12. Fantasmorgasmic! All bow to David and Noel! Three cheers! Thank you guys! Thank you Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Stian, Other than the glitch at 30... I like the demo... As far as the spinning goes, it's okay for you to fade as you are from wire to rendered, I might make it so it does slow down alot and completes just one rev in rendered mode, slowly. The auto models are so real, I would like to see them take off... burning rubber, bumping into the box (in the case of the small one) perhaps. (I know that was rendered in radiosity, animating in radiosity would be too time consuming, so you'd really have to fake it very well. The boat I'd like to see "drop" /splash (as though dropped from a crane, slings releasing) into some water and take off, leaving a wake. Light and animate your logo, it doesn't need to be 3D. Now that all sounds like alot of crits. But it's not really. Those things would make it "perfect", in my eyes. As it is, it is VERY VERY GOOD! And, as mentioned, even playing with just the one glitch fixed, over at CG talk... I think it would get some good attention for you and for A:M. And, in one year, give or take, if I'm just nearly as capable as you are, I would count myself very lucky. Great job! Keep up the excellent work! Thank you for sharing! Sincerely,
  14. Your spider is AWESOME! Your video shows his glowing properties! He is rigged... Why doesn't he move?
  15. JAB Design Studio. I could read it... barely. Over all, I like the "feel" of it but as others have said parts of it need work. I think it needs to be in a larger format... I understand that you may be dealing with dialup users... but it still needs to be larger. How did the logo end up at the bottom of the sea... and Why?
  16. If it is a spline between two cps, click on the spline you want to delete near the cp. About 1/2 the spline will turn green. click on the break spline button on the tool bar or use the keyboard shortcut. Wow! you sure finished that tutorial quick!
  17. Ryan, What Vern's trying to say here is that you need to have a bit more patience. Have you done any of the excercises in The Art of Animation:Master? A:M is not like what you are used to. You need to learn it's way of working if you are going to work in it. Corel Painter does not work like Photoshop... And Macs don't work like PC's... There is an excellent tutorial in the book about modeling an airplane from a rotoscope... if you delete the rotoscope you will have a fuselage and a vertical stabilizer and wings just like (or similarto) the ship you are trying to model. There is no instant solution to what you are trying to LEARN to do... You have to learn it... Sorry, it's just like school. Getting good grades means you understand the subject. If you get A's in history, you may not get A's in math. We are here to try and help you. But, that doesn't mean we can make it work like you want it to. CPU speed and memory (RAM, not HDD) will affect render time. Video card increases display rate, refresh, etc. on the finished product.
  18. please post a .mov if not a model... both would be nice... to see the effect. Thanks for working on this
  19. "the ... Headquarters" has somewhat the look as I remember the Abbey on lake Geneva. Mind you, I haven't been there in ~40 years, so my memory is prolly way off... but it was the first thing I thought of when I saw the composite... and then I noticed you're from John Johnson (Yon Yonson) country... hmmm, odd coincidence.
  20. "I had to check but the door handle is correctly placed!" Well then, move it! If CG Talk says it's wrong, it's just WRONG! Bah! don't pay much attention to them... Well, except for that Ken guy that gave it 5 stars... he seems to know what he's talking about anyway..! It is very nice Stian, I hope to attain your patience for the details someday... but actually, modelling all this "real world" stuff is a fun challenge isn't it??
  21. Both barrels, okay Andrew? I really like them both, but Deus Ex is better. Why? Deus Ex logo is very well modeled. "Unreal" neads some help. I've marked it up to show what's not right. Mind you, nothing in either of these is wrong... but the fixes would make 'em better! Keep up the good work... (and also, realize I couldn't do this well.) [attachmentid=11058] With the exception of what I think might be extra splines goofing up your letters, and the odd crease in the R... The rock's bump maps look too... smooth? I think that's what's wrong with the rocks, but I can't tell you how to make them more real... just that they need to be. Thanks for sharing... really!
  22. Is that "blood" falling from the creature? I would think a laser would cauterize a wound... and just leave a hole... But I have no real critique... I saw this when you first posted it a while back, and I think you're doing an excellent job on it.
  23. Fantastic David! I've been following your trials and tribulations... You are one dedicated man! TWO will probably be alot easier for everyone to participate in... I'm downloading it now for future use, when I am competent to use it! Thank you, so very much... all of us, from newbies like me, to grand poo baas, salute you and you have our gratitude! okay, so that's a little over the top... but really, you deserve all that and more!
  24. Ooooh, Stian... What would Mom say? [attachmentid=10864] Your detail is simply INCREDIBLE! Thank you for sharing... Are you using Radiosity? Render time on the last one?
  25. whoa! Very close! Great! Thanks... I'm sure I'll find a use for this! you are indeed the Lord of MUFOOF!
