Sorry for the little activity lately, I've been wrapped up in the new sweeper plugin and a whole bunch of new projects i have started I started a render of the robot, I tried using soft relections for the first time . . . after 36 hours, i probably should have let it finish, and gotten an F on my paper, but, My lang. Arts. grade is slowly slipping from the B status . . . I stopped the render, and re-did it without soft reflections Here it is . . . more to come . . . Ben

sweet! Can't wait to try it!

Woah, if i could only make actions like that. My world of animation would be complete (except for the rigging part . . . that needs some work) That looks really good, I'd love to see some textures. Maybe you could play around with dynamic bones for the muscles, if you havnt already. I dont have a very keen eye for things . . . NIIIIIIICCEEE JOB Ben

heh, perhaps if I werent still using photoshp version 5 LE

hehe, you guys can actually do the rubik cube thing, and not only that UNDER 5 MINUTES. I bet that i could do it, in about 15, if i really tried. Looks good, it would be interesting to see it rigged . . .

Yes, I did . . . The problem is, i couldn't really get the grass to get smaller as it goes up . . . I also kinda wanted a bamboo look to some of the dryer grass

I was walking around outside yesterday, and i saw a small creek with some rocks poking up. It must have been the most beatiful day ever. Anyway, I tried to capture the beauty of a sunlight river, in late May. Tell me what you think! Ben

I tried somthing out last night. Make a new material, and do nothing to it EXCEPT set the diplacement value to 0. Apply that material to the mirror, and is should redner the hair just fine.

I just purchased AM V11.1 about a month ago. I suggest upgrading to 11.1 then come to the forum and download the 11.1f ugrade, I have that, and the hair in my scenes reflects well. The plus side of getting 11.1 is that you have a year's worth of upgrades for only 99 dollars and V 12 is in its beta versions, and i must say that V 12 has some really good new features (cloth, compositing, greater radiosity abilities, etc.) If you want i can post a render of one of my scenes where the hair is relfected. yes, I've kind have been wondering that myself Ben

Animation wise, maybe you could turn radiosity off ( i would prefer not, but just to see . . .) and maybe render a test frame at maybe . . . 400x600 . . . see how long it takes, then possibly fake the radiosity for the animation . . . just a suggestion Ben -

lol, I see what you mean. Just spent about an hour making the new leg joints (actually about 10 minutes making them and 50 minutes thinking of how they would fit together, actually bout 25 minuts of thinking because of american idol ) I might have the render up later tonight, if not defianatly tommorow thanks again for everything Ben BTW: Render time for image right there at 40 min AND, my "model" isnt exactly ONE model . . . thats all im saying

for some reason it seems you never want me to finish this . . . lol

for your brick problem, i suggest getting simbioant AM, unless you already have it. That has a great brick texture that can be used for anything, it comes complete with bump maps, and it would be easy to apply because it has depth two, so it would compensate for you window problem. As for the sword, perhaps a light in the middle or near the front of the scene, somewhat like a central light, or maybe torches around the walls or in his hand. for the volumetric lights, if you dont want them to interfere with your current lighting, turn of cast shadows, defuse, and everything except volumetric, then i would suggest adding a turbulence such as sine with 5 octaves. I really like the scene so far, it's really progressing Ben

Ok, here's a render i did last night . . . it took an 1:30 min, but im not sure if it looks as good as the other renders. Thats the first test i have for the eyes and i made the elbow joints a bit thicker. I'm still working on the hip joints (using all of those tubes takes a while to make and constrain correctly)

168!!!! wow, I would have said "scew this" then clicked cancel so i could have my computer back. I think it looks really good . . . but wow 168 hours. I like the stairs and the whole setup of the scene. Really nice work!! -
Wow . . . wow . . . wow

Thanks, I've been modeling and animating since I was 9, i used a free program called 3d canvas, then i uprgraded to pro, and then for my 11th birthday, I got AM V2003 (i think). It's been almost two years now with AM. About the elbow joints, yes, lol butterknife, my dad pointed that out to me and I have been meaning to change it, just havnt gotten around to it. As for the "muscles" or tubes that look segmented, those are just 300% bump maps. I think it's the skylight rig mixed with my material and resolution that make the render take so long.
-
hmm, that kinda looks like a robot im making . . . you can see mine in the WIP, its called My in progress robot I like the form of the robot, but I think the misproportions take away from the intial wow effect
-
I agree, the legs are just connected by sticks lol Would you suggest somthing like the shoulder area? Or somthing more complex . . . ?? thanks Ben
-
I see what you mean, however . . . I'm not going for an exact replica, that would take a very very long time. The idea of this robot is to be a later model, specificly designed to help on the Police force (hence the larger more powerful type of structure). I agree now that there should be eyes, at first i thought . . . what if the eyes were just big light receptors, that would allow for much greater night vision. Still, I did say only about 75% done, I estimate that I'll be working ont his for another 2 weeks, before I'm pretty happy with it.

OK, Here is a more finalized version, I consider it to be about 75% done ( no feet yet . . .) A few problems occured when i was rendering him in the cleveland setting . . . so i might not be able to show that for a while BUT!!! Here's what i have so far ! C&C plz! Ben
