  1. heh, I'm kinda a noob, so . . . would there be a tutorial on how to render a shadow pass, color pass, light pass and such ????? Do i just turn on the shadow buffers, and reflections and everything else off?? Thanks for all the support and comments so far! Ben
  2. I'm almost done with the legs . . . I'm rendering my robot now . . . I'll post my results tommorow, I hope you guys like it . . . he is in the kinda great city of Cleveland (the only great things are: The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, Lebron James, and Breylon Edwards . . .) and by the way, do you mean for animation, render each seperate frame?? OR do you mean render like 16 one passes, then merge them together??? plz explain Ben
  3. I've just barely skimmed this, so i dont know if someone has mentioned this . . . but i think that the shadows coming through the windows are to . . . hmmm whats the word . . . hard -- i guess. I would suggest increasing the amount of rays cast from the light you have shining through, to allow for a softer shadow. If your looking for hard edged shadows then it's fine. But your image with a fire and an evening setting, i think would look much better with a more soft and glowy feeling to it. . . Ben

    ROV

That really looks great . . . the ROV and the sketch looking forward to more
  5. ya, the legs in the wireframe are a bit to detailed for my liking, unfortunatly, the detail in the arms almost all shows I must fix the problems !!! by the way. . . its pretty cool . . . my topic is considered "hot"
  6. Ok, I'm posting a wire frame . . . and . . . I deleted my 9 hour render that i did last night accidentally (saved WF over it . . . dum me). I model all my parts seperately then put them into one model, so i opended each model and clicked info. One arm has about 10000 patches in it. I dont no how. Look at the wirframe for yourself, i think it should only be about 2000 or 3000 . . . at most *next chance i get (it will probably be tommorow, because i have to render over night) i will post a closer to final version, with the new leg setup i thought of. Bulkiness = good for a soon to be robot cop
  7. 12 actually lol and thanks . . . i dont turn 13 until august . . . i look forward and hoping to go to the Art Institure of Chicago and a career at Weta, or ILM or anywhere i can animate, model, or do somthing 3D.
  8. If i was you . . . i would use the symboyant plugin for dark tree textures, and use a really deep and meeningfull eye . . . then have one (or both of them be lazy). That always gets across a good first impression . . . if you want him to look goofy and dumb (and kind of helpless [big pupils]). My 2 cents ben
  9. O Gosh . . . i wish i could animate him . . . but unfortunately it took about 8 hours at 16 pass to get what you see there I would be able to animate if i got rid of the skylight rig, and cut down on the plastic effects . . . maybe if i can find a good light setup that doesnt take so long to render. Im doing some tests with different eviorments to see how he looks in differant eviorments (city, underground, the apocolyptic backround i used for my demon guy [you can see that in the showcase]). I belive im going to have to make a few adjustments to allow him to look good in differantly lit scenes . . . and to allow for shorter render time In short . . . still alot of work, I'll post a render of him with my first attempt at legs. I got a much better idea today though in Intervention (time our middle school gives us to do our homework). I will work on that then post when finished.
  10. . . . and I made this, im currently working on the legs and hips of the robot, but this is what i have. *Note* yes i know about the bone problem with the left arm The Robot so far is made up of about 22000 patches I wonder why . . .
  11. I would set the ambiance at 100% but it doesn't have the same affect as 150 or 200 % that i want. I'm using AM V11.1e and the ambience color is as orange the ground model's surface properties, with a simbiont AM texture applied.
  12. I'm doing a render of my image, with some of the adjustments suggested. I really think it looks better. There is a bug, however, that i don't know how to fix. I have an ambiance map underneath my demon (who i affectioniatly call Demo, real original right?) that is supposed to be a solid orange glow. The only problem is that parts of it render cyan, when the ambiance map is set to over 100%
  13. I really enjoy the textures. (i might sound like a "master" here but . . .) nice job ben
  14. lol, I see your point. The image i was satisifed with before was about a half as good compared to that shot. After all of the suggestions and crit i have gotten, my final image will, in my opinion, be 2 times as good as the one that is 2 times as good as the last one. It's not about the contest really in my mind, it's about the process before and after, that really matters because, i probabbly won't win, so that makes me strive for better. The contest did however provide motivation, to lead to what i think could be a great shot (for me) However, i guess its all a matter of personal opinion. Ben
  15. As do I . . . no picture just a thing saying who is hosting the picture
  16. Eos just summed up about everything i think in 3 really long paragraphs . . . thanks
  17. I was just eager to show my image, plus i got alot of good critiscm from the beginning, in my mind the image looks alot better and pretty good for v 10.5 (which constantly crashed). Thanks for all of the critiscm and discusion, I agree it wasnt a good idea to post before the contest voting . . . oh well Thanks again, Ben
  18. I have been inspired beyond belief. I will now spend the next 5 years trying to accomplish a fraction of the beauty of the final render. Then when im 17, I'll have something, and if its 1/8 as good as that, I'll get some college money from a magazine Thanks for the inspiration. The final looks amazing.
  19. Ok thanks, I've added fires underneath him and a little hint of doom 3 . Im gonna start a 16 pass render now, I'll update my picture when its finished.
  20. This is my entry for the sci fi/fantasy image contest. I tried to combine the two topics tell me what you think Ive been having some difficulties with the render, it will ONLY be about another hour and half at most. Thanks for the critizm so far The sprites (fire) won't render when i do a pass render?! The lights for the sprites barely cast any light. The lights are bone lights, set with an orangish color, 100 cm, at 125% and i ahve 3 of them. Does anyone know how to help me?! UPDATE: FIXED ALL THE BUGS 2nd UPDATE: STARTING RENDER NOW! WILL POST WHEN FINISHED 3rd UPDATE: FINAL DONE, GOING ON THE ROAD BE BACK THURS NIGHT 4TH UPDATE: UDATED IMAGE NOW POSTED ALSO ON PAGE 2
  21. Woody as a youngester, with bright, bright, green shoes. I like it
  22. Ok, thanks i will fix thos problems and make the world seem a bit "eviler". Im working continually on my image contest entry, so it will be in a few days, unless it get my entry done tnight (most likely will not happen)
  23. YESS, that means i can use the cave for my entrie, must go work on it!
  24. The flag is an old, revolutionary war flag. It represents the United States' 13 colonies, on differant planets. (Thats my story for not having a good flag on hand)
  25. Really?? i have all of the models in .3ds format, but my AM wont import em, so i bought the update! if you want i can send you the MAC gun, its kinda simple but its cool.
