Thats great, David!
I'm glad you are using the big blue guy again. He is too full of character to leave sitting around on your hard drive.
I didn't realise that the 10sec club was functioning again! They have very strict submission requirements don't they?
Two questions:
What do you use to output to the MPEG1 format required by the 10 sec club?
Did you use AO for this animation?
Too bad they didn't accept this animation, David. Next time, eh?
thanks for the comments people!
I don't think the 10 second club ever stopped although I could be wrong this is the first time I've tried it in a few years.
The rules a pretty straight forward but the club does seem a bit unorganized to me they are always leaving out peoples animations for some reason.
I used studio 9 to make the mpeg1. It came with my video card I think.
Yep rendered with AO pretty low quality though only 5 passes but I like the AO look.
I do kind of wish it got in just to see if I could get some votes
Great animation, love the incongruous touchy feely actions of the characters.
Thanks,
When listening to the sound track it was hard to hear the "T" in gate and it sounded like "give me the gay key" so I thought it might be funny to make the third guy look a little too friendly(even thought he was saying cut his arms off)....hehe
Yeah, I agree great piece!!!!
Was this done in A:M? Has that "maya" look to it!
Good job

Thanks Mike
I was thinking the lightwave look I dont know how we are getting all this highend rendering stuff
Heres the same character and setup but with much better quality 144 passes and 100% sampling I really like this look.[attachmentid=14818]

Made this for the ten second club but must have submitted it late because it didn't make it in for voting.
cheers

Great story.
I thought the same thing as dhar maybe start out with the faeries in their natural enviroment with a shot of the faeries sunning themselves while relaxing on a leaf and then a close up of the trolls hand grabbing her.
When the troll reaches into the cage one faerie could push the other out of the way sacrificing themselves for the other then a dramatic shot of the faerie bravely being set on the hook then you would have a hero.
Ok I will stop babbling now

I'm not sure why you would want to animate in an action rather then choreography. Drop your characters in the choreography that contains the set your working with. Then hide all the lights, cameras, set ect. and it will look just like your animating in an action with the benifit that you can animate from the camera view.

I am very curious to see this movie.Unfortunatly my quick time player does not recognise the
compression. After updating the player it still does not play the movie.Only the sound.
Can someone help me with this ?
I don't really know what to say to this if you have the latest version of quicktime it should work. It is compressed with H.264 maybe someone else has some ideas.

hey, glad you guys like em. I will try to finish up the last one as soon as I can.
thanks

Still at it ... attached is a test utilizing the new rig (rendered in QT Sorenson 3).
..doug
whats up doug
looks like you are taking it easy on that rig. I would like to see that thing freak out (thats an industry term)
David

I would love to have a look at this, David, but QT won't let me view it. Any chance of a Sorenson 3 or DivX version?
Paul, I believe you need the quciktime 7 to view the animation its compressed with H.264
Here is a sorenson 3 version

Dagooos: I can't believe you have a quote from my boss for your signature. I just can't get away from that guy
Thanks for the warm welcome, guys.
hah, I didn't even think of that when I was posting maybe I will get some free movie passes

I made a couple of small videos showing how to use squetch Rig. Hopefully useful to animators not familiar with the rig. I'm working on another animating with the rig but just haven't had time to finish it yet.

Martin has convinced me (it didn't take much, really) to take a stab at doing some key lighting once some of the sets start coming together.
I'm a little stretched for time, what with working on an animated movie for my day job, but I reckon I should be able to fit at least a little TWO work into my schedule.
What I've looked through so far looks great. You guys should be proud.
Cool, can't wait to see what you come up. Will be interesting to hear your thoughts on how to approach the lighting aspect of the movie.
-
Man, that's good stuff.
But why does he do that one-handed smack on the hilt near the beginning?
Thanks
There is a small slapping sound in the sound track and I was trying to think of a way to give him big anticipation before the jump onto the sword but you are right its probably way to much and doesn't look very fitting.
-
OK I lied. I cant stop messing around with the ambient occlusion feature. Re-rendered bigger better faster
and yes the sound was from ICE AGE

hmmm... when I try the force Key with Compensate thing I find it only resets the translate if the bone has also been rotated. (the translate filter is ON)
a bone that has only been translated will not get reset... until I nudge the rotation of it and then it jumps to the zero translate position, but then the rotation still needs to be reset.
usually it will jump right back to default position but your right there is a position update problem in this alpha. The offsets go back to zero in the bones properties but it doesn't change position until you nudge it a little like you said.
-
I just discovered this....if you press Control X while in a chor/action, it resets all nulls and bones of a selected character back to their defaults. Might come in handy.
What would be even handier would be the ability to reset only a selected null. Maybe someone else knows that...
Force keyframe with compensate mode on will do that.
thanks for the tip

In models pose sliders under squetch controls / whole model unhide body squetch controls and move the Body_squetch_base bone. that should do what you want.

robocat here are some test I did if it helps
did some test with the scarecrow model.
tested same project with same settings in each version here's what I got for FPS
V13 - 13FPS
V12 - 15FPS
V11.1 - 17FPS
When I deleted the face interface geometry version 11.1 and 12 jumped up to realtime 24FPS but
version 13 only went to 17FPS.
I tried other things like deleting the dynamics but that didn't make much of a difference.
when I unchecked skip frames while playing if behind I picked up 1-2 fps in all versions.
Also when I saved the model in version 13 the FPS dropped from 17 fps to 12FPS
Hope this helps
I Can send you the project file if you want

was playing around with new displacement and ambiance occlusion last night and rendered this little animation. For some reason looked a lot better when i was doing quick render test and the animation is a bit rough but I'm not going to mess around with it anymore. The sound is scrat from ice age.

I was just looking through my job sheet and thought this was interesting. They may be interested in hearing about TWO.

I am getting together with bob in a couple of days and setting this up now I wouldn't mind testing it out and learning how it works before then
My skype name is the same as my forum name (PF_Mark) and anyone is welcome to give me a call if you feel like chatting and talking about TWO
I tried to call ya also .... but no answer....
-
To ALL animators preparing takes for Bob to review.....
Can I very strongly suggest that everyone renders to Sor3, Low, 320x240 and NO sound to keep the takes to less than 100kb or thereabouts!
Why? Well by the time we start going full steam, everyone is going to be updating 10's to 100's of gigabytes a day in new "take" updates (considering there are going to be in excess of 3000 takes all told). This WILL kill movie project participation (I know it will kill mine)! Its bad enough for new starters now - lets not make it any worse.
If this is a problem with the format/structure of the project then we better visit it now before it becomes unfixable.
Cheers
Is it really necessary for everyone to download everyone else's animation takes everytime they are updated? it's not bad for me but for people with dial up it could be a pain...It would be better if it just told you it was updated and gave you a link to the folder so you could view it if you wanted to.

I did some more sleuthing and I think it's happening when you re-edit a pose. Now that I think of it, all my corrupted poses were ones that I had exited and re-opened because I wasn't happy with how they looked.
What about yours?
Yep, same thing here mostly but a couple of them became corrupt with out even touching them again.
