Maniac
There are are few Games out that brag about 3D Scanned models exact within in 1 mm Like iRacing they brag how exact the Car and tracks are right down to cracks in pavement iRacing is a True Race Simulator very high tech Simulator is this the kind of stuff they would have used. I was just woundering How many models in games are created like this now. https://www.goscan3d.com/en?gclid=Cj0KEQjwxPbHBRCdxJLF3qen3dYBEiQAMRyxS_Gt6x9Yn0nLOZ4ml1SycZFWFETW1CAwhXzCUzt_h_AaAoxQ8P8HAQ
Admin Rodney Posted April 24, 2017 Admin Share Posted April 24, 2017 I'll guess yes. I know of several people who use that or similar equipment. Me want. (Of course any product that says 'Get free quote' is likely out of my price range although I'd guess there are companies that will rent and or do the scanning for a less costly fee.) John Bigboote
There are some cheaper ways to do similar... the kinect cameras for Xbox do 3D scanning, don't they? And there was an app I had on my iphone... 123Dgo or something like that...
detbear
If you can scan a real world object and get an efficiently usable model with the exact dimensions, that sure beats a "By Hand" method in many circumstances. Gets the job quickly into the environment. Even if you have to tweak or repair it a bit. Entire rooms and environments can also be scanned for interior levels on games and other CG projects with new scanning technology available. It's a very exciting time for these things. John Bigboote
Yes- tis! Have you seen the real-estate scanning solution 'Matterport'? Turns your whole house into a 3d tour with highlight and bullet points called out. Camera runs some $3-4K... https://matterport.com/

I thought I might set it up for scanning but saw that I needed that PC cable and... then read that they had discontinued making it. I'm sure it's still available especially from third party sources. From all that I've seen it works quite well. Let us know about your experience.

KingVidiot
a simple Structure scanner hooked to an iPhone or iPad is the best bang for the buck and it's portablenot good for fine details/small models, but good for people, statues, cars, large toys, etc.laser limits the materials to be used, intense lighting can make scanning difficult here is an example of something I scanned a few months ago - statue -> scan -> 3d print :-)http://imgur.com/a/Z34An
