ruscular Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 http://graphics.uni-konstanz.de/~luft/ivy_generator/ You can create a growing ivy along side of walls and building of your model. The question that I don't know if the poly count too high for it to be imported into AM: ?? Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted February 14, 2016 Hash Fellow Posted February 14, 2016 In a brief test I was able to import an Ivy OBJ into A:M as a prop, however A:M had trouble interpreting the bitmap textures correctly. i will make bug reports on those. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted February 14, 2016 Hash Fellow Posted February 14, 2016 test... Ivy OBJ model with A:M MDL model Quote
ruscular Posted February 14, 2016 Author Posted February 14, 2016 That's pretty hopeful result there! I am impress! Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted February 14, 2016 Hash Fellow Posted February 14, 2016 Here's another one. They can be quite huge and they do seem to slow the real-time display in A:M down quite a bit. Different OBJs seem to have different random troubles on import. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted February 14, 2016 Hash Fellow Posted February 14, 2016 A problem on some but not all leaves is that the alpha channel on their texture map is being ignored so they come out square with black margins. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted February 14, 2016 Hash Fellow Posted February 14, 2016 Could the "Treez" plugin do something like this as well? Quote
Admin Rodney Posted February 14, 2016 Admin Posted February 14, 2016 That's a lot better success than I got! Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted February 15, 2016 Hash Fellow Posted February 15, 2016 Basic workflow Model shape in A:M. Export as OBJ at 4 subdivs In IVY Import that OBJ In IVY click on some part of the model press "grow" and let it run until it stops Press "birth" to get leaves (IVY has numerous sliders, most of which seem to get you too much or too little growth if you change them.) Export OBJ from IVY In A:M import OBJ as Prop Drag original model and IVY OBJ into Chor They will line line up by default. Constrain Prop to Model with Translate TO and Orient Like Be sure to read the Readme file in the bin folder for basic use directions and be sure to read it in something other than Notepad Quote
ruscular Posted February 15, 2016 Author Posted February 15, 2016 I figure it would be patch heavy once you import it, But I also thought maybe you could render with alpha channel, just the ivy part out for the side of the building and then decal it to the object as a color map. Would add life to wooden fences and brick building. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted February 15, 2016 Hash Fellow Posted February 15, 2016 I think they can be manageable if they are imported as "props" rather than as models. Kinda pokey but potentially useful if you need it. I figure it would be patch heavy once you import it, But I also thought maybe you could render with alpha channel, just the ivy part out for the side of the building and then decal it to the object as a color map. Would add life to wooden fences and brick building. You could also put the decal on a plane slightly offset in front the building to give it some depth and shadow possibility. Quote
detbear Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Different OBJs seem to have different random troubles on import. Welcome to the world of difficulties involved in using OBJ's in A:M. Just kidding Big guy.... I know you know the difficulties. I work so often with trying to make obj's work in A:M that it becomes quite a maddening issue at times.... Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted February 16, 2016 Hash Fellow Posted February 16, 2016 I sent my example to Steffen and he noted that the .mat file wasn't written correctly (by Ivy generator). He's put in an accommodation for it. I look forward to trying that. Quote
John Bigboote Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Very cool... Rob- you seem to have a 'red-phone' directly with Steffen... jealous! Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted February 17, 2016 Hash Fellow Posted February 17, 2016 Very cool... Rob- you seem to have a 'red-phone' directly with Steffen... jealous! hash.com/reports I'll just say that if you can screencam your bug happening and include a sample PRJ for Steffen to load without having to recreate the problem from scratch... that really does speed things up.
