John Bigboote Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 HAPPY HALLOWEEN! My friend Joey who has a Tex-Mex band called Xplozivo needed a quick poster, so I dug into my archives and saw my old cartooney skull model, so I slapped a material on it and some quick 3D text and away I went! The design is a 'cop' off a wonderful comic artist, Shawn Dickinson- who does great Weirdos, pinups, surfer art and monsters. His art I greatly enjoy. https://www.facebook.com/shawn.dickinson.12?fref=ts The Chromium material is included too, and is very handy to have around for quick metallic effects. Also, the 'crack in the head' employs a boolean, so anyone wanting to learn how bools work- take a look. ENJOY SKULL_SD.mdl Chromium.mat Quote
detbear Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Matt, That's a really cool look. Does the Matcap make those darker places or did you do some painting also? Looks great. Kevin Quote
John Bigboote Posted October 6, 2015 Author Posted October 6, 2015 Reallly good question! Been so long, I FORGET! Looking back in the model, I see no decals, no groups that have the darker(eyes, mouth) geometry... I'am perplexxed! must be the reflective quality of the material... I did no work on that in Photoshop other than to composite the PNG into the composition. Quote
John Bigboote Posted October 6, 2015 Author Posted October 6, 2015 FOUND IT! There are 3 lights in the model if you look in the bones folder... they have negative values which darken the geometry they shine on. Wasn't I fancy? COOL TRICK! Quote
itsjustme Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Here is a linearized version of the Chromium material. Chromium_linear.zip Quote
John Bigboote Posted October 7, 2015 Author Posted October 7, 2015 Awesome... lots of downloads for this! Good to see. I took it a little further yesterday and added brains inside the skull... https://www.dropbox.com/home?preview=HappyHalloween.gif For those who might wonder, 'if the crack in the head is being cutaway by a boolean, then how are the brains rendering-should'nt they get bool'd away too?' Well, I made the brains geometry connected to a bone that is a child of the boolean bone, which makes it a negative-negative... so it renders! Here is the new model with the brains. ALSO NOTICE... the jaw is weighted in to a jawbone for easy manipulation/animation. SKULL_SD.mdl Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted October 7, 2015 Hash Fellow Posted October 7, 2015 Great poster! I think you need a different link from dropbox, the current one requires you to have an account and sign into drop box Quote
John Bigboote Posted October 7, 2015 Author Posted October 7, 2015 Weird- Dropbox says it has full public permissions... can DB get any buggier? Maybe if I leave off the crap after the .gif https://www.dropbox.com/home?preview=HappyHalloween.gif EDIT- I see Hash forum will allow the GIF... I like the way the chrome in the eye-sockets kind of makes the illusion of an eyeball looking always at you... 1 Quote
