I've asked before but it was a bit uncertain as to how to procede.

Trying to finish the boy and bear project I'm having trouble with the light penetrating the walls of the model. To try and get around it, the walls were double skinned and the materials, other than the door glass, set to 0 transparency. It occurs with Z buffered and ray traced lights.

Can anyone kindly suggest a solution ?

Is that a final render or shaded? Is your shadow set to 80% darkness? It may work if you put in 100%.

(just some wild guesses here ;) )

See you

would need more info to help - would need to know where the lights are relative to models, and how they move. A top view might help.

not sure where you think the light leak is (would help if you posted image of one frame showing where the light leak is)

However, IF you mean the door & along the side of the stairs (when there is not any light moving ie, first frame), then it looks like the surface properties of those groups might have some ambiance percentage set.

That is my first guess also.

If you get stumped I can look at the prj.

Gerald, Nancy, Robert.

Thank you for your help. Much appreciated

This is a full scale render showing the problem. Its a final not a shaded render.

You can see how the cone penetratesthree walls, showing up on the landing as a arc on the bedroom door.

This is slightly later in the sequence, giving a better idea of the model layout.

THis os a split screen showing the render and a top view

Shadow darkness % is in the light properties, not the object. Check the light properties.

Robert.

Thank you for your help. I checked the light and made sure the shadows were 100%

this was the initial result.

I saved it out as a different prj with everything embedded except the textures and maps as you were kind enough to say you'd hae a look at it.

Slight update

If I convert the lights to 'raytraced', then the light penetration doesn't happen.

Although other anomolies do, the carpet by the door for example.

Looking at the lights in the chor...

-Living Room Spot is keyframed to go from 30% to 100% darkness so anything in between will not be 100%

-Landing Spot is keyed from 45% to 50%

-Charlies Room is keyed at 35%

-CarSpot goes from 30% to 100%

I think one or more of those is the trouble.

Delete all those darkness keys and set them to 100% darkness at the outset.

For partial illumination or shadows that are not 100% black, add a dim light in the scene to fill in the darkness rather than use the shadow darkness percentage.

Try that and let me know if there is still problem.

I have tried your project - I notice that with toon render ON (which was NOT set in the project) - the problem occurs (with z-buff shadows, and ray trace, and shadow dark = 100%).

With Toon render OFF (shadows = zbuff) there is not the same problem

All frame 12 (17g PC) - Final, no MP

1st image: Toon ON, ray trace shadows

2nd: Toon ON, z buff shadows (darkness = 100%)

3rd: Toon OFF, z buff shadows (darkness = 100%)

EDIT: 4th: Toon ON, z buff (darkness = 30%)

Robert, Nancy

Thank you very much for your help and efforts on my behalf. Very much appreciated. I will follow them up first thing tomorrow and post the results later that day.

I'll also note that several Groups in the "Charlies House" model have "ambiance Intensity" set to more than 0%

That means they will show up even in complete darkness. It creates a very flat appearance.

Do you really want that?

With apologies for the delayed posting, I've been rather busy with other things.

A big thank you to Gerald, Nancy and Robert for their help to get this far.

I hope this is the last test of this scene but, any critical feedback would be very welcome.

It does show up darker on the originating computer/monitor setup, but on this ( Imac) it appears to have a much lighter effect with the stairway appearing self illuminated. Although the exterior lights show up better on the window and door !

That looks very promising :)... nice animation going up the stairs... there is a little "fibration"-like step in it, but very well done nontheless :).

There are small things like the closing door. It may be just a little too much of a bounce back to open before closed fully... I would eighter let it jump open again a little less far or I would move it very slowly after the reopening... ease-out the animation in that case, just to give it a feel of a slowly closing door which is closing because of a slight uneveness of the floor or something like that.

See you

Thank you. I'm still hoping to get it all finished soon. Almost got the dance part done, final scene needs redoing then the sound.

didn't know what else to term it really, trying hard not to induce more chuckles...

Just to confirm Nancy's observation above.

I was working on a new scene for a different project and got the following results

Non Toon 025.jpg

Overide Multiple lights 025.jpg

Overide Standard 025.jpg

Overide Toon Fall off 025.jpg

Overide Toon Gradient 025.jpg

Toon No overide 025.jpg

One interesting anomoly slightly later was this were it seems to render it as lines without colour.

Seti One 050.jpg

Hve gone over to non toon for the new project .
