Karmacomposer Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I am using Unity 3D 4.6 and I am evaluating A:M v18 before I purchase. I used to use A:M back in 2005 and bought the CD, but it no longer works due to scratches and Windows 8. I need to be able to export models I create with rigging and actions using either Direct X or FBX. I found and downloaded the Direct X exporter and put it in the correct place, but it does not show up. I put it in the 32 bit version. I cannot find a Direct X export in either 32 or 64 bit. How can one use v18 with Unity3D? Mike Quote
itsjustme Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Gerald has a tutorial here: http://www.patchwork3d.de/html/page.php?page_id=64 Hope that helps. Quote
Admin Rodney Posted July 13, 2014 Admin Posted July 13, 2014 Hi Mike! Is that a typo? I didn't think there was a 4.6 release for Unity yet. The latest on the unity site is 4.5.2 As for the .X plugin, with current releases of A:M (v16 and up according to Gerald) you shouldn't have to install anything to get access to the Direct X exporter as it comes installed. Try opening a Model in an Action, Right Click and select Plugins/Export and (in my case) the AMTex Direct X exporter is the second option. (See attached image) Edit: I just tested this in both 32/64bit versions and they both work. Quote
Karmacomposer Posted July 13, 2014 Author Posted July 13, 2014 Unity 3D 4.5.2 - yep. Sorry. TY. I did not know you needed to edit the model to export to .x. I did that and there it was. Thank you very much. Now if I can just activate my UU3D Pro v3 - I bought it years ago and the activation dialog won't seem to accept my code. I wonder if that software is dead? I tried searching for an answer but just cannot find any. I also own Milkshape, but it does not import .x files. Does anyone know of a good utility to convert .x files with rigging and animations to .fbx? Mike Quote
Karmacomposer Posted July 17, 2014 Author Posted July 17, 2014 OK. I am actually getting somewhere. I have successfully exported a FBX with one action, but the skeleton (rig) is not intact in Unity 3D (so the animation is there and the Unity camera seems to take on the action, but the model does not, for example, run.) I cannot export multiple actions in one model (for example, idle, walk, run, etc). How do I export all the actions? I drag and drop the Idle, Walk, Run, etc actions onto the model and now I want to export it to a .x file with all those actions attached. How do I do it? Lastly, how do I export it either from .x or to .fbx with the rigging actually working in Unity 3D? I am using the direct x exporter in A:M and then Unwrap 3D 3 Pro to export to .fbx. Thank you for any help. Mike Quote
Fuchur Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 You really do not like Video-Tutorials, right? 1.) In A:M you need to first export the model itself to directx. This will hold ONLY the polygones, UV-sets and bones, not the animation itself. 2.) Go to each of your actions you want to attach to that model and export to directx here again. 3.) You will be asked for a file first. Select the directx-file you got from step 1. 4.) In the dialog use "Embed in file" (or something equal... do not know the exatly right term right now). Do step 2 - 4 for each action you want to attach. After that you should get a directx file with the bones (etc.) attached to it that should be readable by Unwrap 3d. You should be able to preview the action in Unwrap 3d or FragMotion... if you can't, something went wrong or you did something wrong. I am not sure but in Quest3d I needed to rescale the animation itself again (I think it was 10 times too fast) but I am not sure. I do not think I had to do that for Unity3d, but just in case you run into that. See you *Fuchur* Quote
John Bigboote Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Anyone used Autodesk's free 'Autodesk FBX' utility in this pipeline? It claims to be able to convert various (I don't know about .x- but they DO claim .obj... but I don't know if obj sequences...) ...to FBX file format. Thanks for your info Gerald... I thought my .x exporter was broken- did not know you had to specify a model... Quote
John Bigboote Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Looking at the Ultimate Unwrap DEMO version... does NOT open .X files, can we affirm that the FULL version does open .X files? (Thanks for your video, Gerald!) Quote
Fuchur Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 If you send me your X-file, I will try it out for you. I never run into trouble with it... as I show in the video tutorial and here is a screenshot of what UU3d can open. (A:Ms DirectX-files included. You need to use v8 of course in A:M Exporter, not v7). See you *Fuchur* Quote
Droops Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Anyone used Autodesk's free 'Autodesk FBX' utility in this pipeline? John Bigboote Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Sorry- I've been away... I never had success in my searching for A:M models and animations to FBX file format. 1 Quote
