tbenefi33 Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Just wondering I'm thinking about getting After Effect and does A:M have to be on the same system after you render a project to export to After Effect. I have a Desktop with A:M on in, was thinking about putting After Effect on my laptop ? Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted September 29, 2012 Hash Fellow Posted September 29, 2012 No, they would not have to be on the same computer as long as you have a way to transfer your rendered images or movies to the computer with after effects on it. Either via network connection or a USB drive most likely. Quote
Admin Rodney Posted September 29, 2012 Admin Posted September 29, 2012 You certainly don't have to have them on different systems but... Having them on two different systems would allow you to work on the other while the other is doing its own stuff. This is of course will be even more important when more than one person is involved. In my estimation it would be optimal to have them on different systems but there is no requirement to do that. Quote

Just to mention it since you want to run them on a laptop: AE and A:M are very computer-heavy products... AE will eat up lots of RAM and you need fast HDs to work with it and A:M at least lots of CPU-power and sometimes RAM. Be aware of hat when using a laptop... if it is not a highend-one, I would not recommend to use AE on it. A:M can be used to create stuff on a laptop, but rendering will not be too fast on it either. Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted September 30, 2012 Hash Fellow Posted September 30, 2012 Check Adobe's site to see if they have graphics card requirements for AE. They do for Premiere and most laptops won't have suitable graphics cards. Quote
tbenefi33 Posted September 30, 2012 Author Posted September 30, 2012 I checked Adobe's site at the tech spec. I'm a happy camper it can handle it. I'll just leave A:M on my desktop and transfer everything via external hard drive until I can find me a usb to usb cable. Quote
Ilidrake Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 I use ae on my laptop no problem. I would recommend squidnet as its a render service that use ae to render over a network. Works very well if am renders on a diffrent machine. Quote
