*A:M User* Roger Posted September 4, 2012 *A:M User* Share Posted September 4, 2012 I have an older Wacom tablet that I bought back in the Win 2k/XP days, that uses a serial connetion. I also have a serial to USB adapter. So far, I haven't found much on the web as far as getting it to work over USB. Is anyone using one of these older tablets with an adapter? I hate to go out and get a newer model, but if it takes me 4 hours to get the darn thing working, maybe I'm better off selling it on Craigslist and putting the money towards a newer Wacom Intuos or Bamboo. Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted September 4, 2012 Hash Fellow Share Posted September 4, 2012 I also have a VERY old wacom tablet that worked with a serial connection on Win95 but never since. If Wacom doesn't provide a driver that lets you use it with a serial connection and your current OS then it's probably hopeless. If you have a desktop that doesn't have a built in serial connection you MIGHT try adding a serial card in a PCI slot http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=PCI+se...x=1&_udhi=6 It's a $5 experiment. NancyGormezano
I am using a serial (and parallel) to USB device (I think it's keyspan manufacturer? - as far as I can tell) with my very old WACOM (6 x 9) - model UD-0608-R with XP pro I also downloaded a driver (long, long time ago) from WACOM - driver version 4.78-6 Check on Wacom site to see what they say? I dread updating to Win7, just for this very reason, living in fear that my wacom won't play anymore. Keep us posted to what you find out, and how you make it work, please. Simon Edmondson
I'm working with a slightly wonky Intuous with OSX but have a very large Ultrapad tablet I have used succesfully with XP and was hoping to use it with OSX in coming weeks ( when I finally get the current project done !). I bought a Serial to USB converter a few weeks ago that is supposed to work with W7 and OSX. I moved over to Macs because of Vista and haven't beeb tempted back yet. I will let you know if the converter works for me. If it does, perhaps there is a good chance it will do so for you too. It cost me about 15 UK, about $25 US. regards simon
Gerry
Good luck with it Simon, and congrats on switching to Mac.
*A:M User* Roger Posted September 5, 2012 Author *A:M User* Share Posted September 5, 2012 I suppose I could try the serial card on my desktop. Mainly need it to work with my laptop, though.

*A:M User* Roger Posted September 6, 2012 Author *A:M User* Share Posted September 6, 2012 Here is a Wacom tablet hack I found. If this doens't work, I'm going to probably just get one of the smaller Bamboo tablets. Hey guys, do not give up. I finally after tinkering and following Stefan’s and Pavel’s hints got my GD-0912-R serial tablet working in Win 7 64 bit. This is what I did: · Connected the Keyspan USB serial adapter USA-19HS to the Wacom tablet · Removed the power cable from the Wacom so that only the USB-to-Serial cable is found. · Attached the Wacom tablet to the USB on the computer. The Windows automatically Installed the driver. · In Device manager it shows up under Ports (Com & LPT) as Keyspan USB Serial Port (Com3). Driver version 3.7.0.5. · Then as Stefan advised hack the registry as follows: · Click start · Type in Regedit in the blank area. Click regedit.exe. · The registry opens · Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE · Click Software · Right click on Software · Select New, then Key · The new dialog box opens, type in Tablet · Right click on Tablet – New – String Value. Type in PnPTablets · Right click PnPTablets, new dialog box opens. Select Modify · Under Value Data type in Com3 · Close the registry · Then Download the driver Pro610-6_int.exe from: ftp://ftp.wacom-europe.com/pub/WINDOWS/pro610-6_int.exe · Now I followed Pavels suggestion. But had to modify it. As I used Pro610-6.exe (NOTE: The other driver 605-7 may work as Pavel suggested but it did not work for me under Vista compatibility mode. I did not try under Win 2000 compatibility mode as I almost gave up. That’s when I reinstalled 610-6 and decided to try a different compatibility mode went back to 610-6 and ran under Win 2000 and it worked) · Right click on Pro610-6_int.exe · Click properties · In the Compatibility tab select Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 2000 · Select Run this program as an Administrator in the Privilege level group box · Apply and close the program dialog · Now click and install the Wacom Driver by clicking Pro610-6_int.exe · It will install the driver for Wacom · Restart the computer and Walla the tablet should work. · I hope you all succeed · Enjoy as I am very happy I almost gave up. NancyGormezano
After googling: gd-0405-r windows 7, the first link that pops up for me is: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums...c9-3aa7be1dbc02 sounds like some people have been successful getting it to work (but ugh - sounds complicated.) EDIT: Ok - seems like you found the same link...hope it works Edited September 6, 2012 by NancyGormezano
*A:M User* Roger Posted September 6, 2012 Author *A:M User* Share Posted September 6, 2012 Unfortunately, I can't find any damn Intuos serial tablet drivers on their site, let alone the one for my model. *and if I'd looked a little more closely at my own info I found earlier, I'd have found the link without having to futz on Wacom's site - doh!*
*A:M User* Roger Posted September 6, 2012 Author *A:M User* Share Posted September 6, 2012 Ok, found the driver on some European site. Hopefully this will work and not take more than an hour of dicking around. Worth it to save $75 to $100. If this turns into an all day adventure then not so much.
