Interactive content for mobile devices

Hi guys,

I think, this is a good time to make some researches on how to create interactive content (games, apps) for mobile devices (smartphones, (i)-pads and such)

since it helds the chance to earn some money directly via marketplaces.

Since the diversity (apple i-os, android, win mobile 7, internet(Flash), Symbian, blackberry etc.) is so large at the moment, its not so easy to find the best solution for us to enable us to produce something sellable.

AM would and could surely be a great tool to directly produce and deliver content for that, but I guess all developers resources are strictly bound to developing AM itself for the time being , but you never know, once there have been the arcticpigs...

So since I don`t like apple so much, because of its restriction policy, to me the two most promising platforms for the near future seem to be Android and Win 7 .

The great problem for me at the moment is, that there doesn`t exist one real "authoring"-tool for smart-phone content like Makromedias director with its lingo language once was for multimediacontent for CD-Rom and internet. There`s flash still around obviously, but actionscript seems to be very complicated to learn and not really "futuresave" for us 3D guys and apple has banned it. And html 5 still seems to be a long way, till we see something like a dreamweaver for it.

For Win 7 you can find free development resources , that require to learn some visual basic programming:

For Android you could use the free unity gameengine (requires to learn their javascript like language) and create 2D gamecontent with the sprite manager 2 plugin (149,-$) and then you could publish with the 400,-$ license to Android.

Then there is that App Game Kit, that`s supposed to be released in July, with the promise to just do the work once and be able to publish to all the big platforms, price still unknown:

In fact I really don`t know, which way to go yet.

I am dreaming of a handling almost as easy as with "my doddle game":

That means: create my own content with the help of AM , be it 2 D sprites at first and put some interactive (game or educational) content together

either with game"templates" or a quite easy to learn programming language like Dark basic or Javascript and then being able

to publish on the different marketplaces. All this with reasonable moneyinvestments necessary beforehand.

I like the on percentage model of the marketplaces and the App Game Kit.

I am sure some of you guys here know more than I about this, so maybe you can give me some more ideas, hints, links and directions to think?

By the way, how about starting a forumsection related to this topic?

I used to be a Flash animator and did lots of Actionscript stuff. I was going to get back into it until Apple decided to block it.

Otherwise, Flash was a great multi-platform thing.

I'm surprised no one has come up with an HTML5 authoring program that would replace the functionality of the Flash authoring program.

Has anything even been announced?

Making A:M directly deploy interactive content... That would be getting way outside A:M core purpose. But certainly A:M can be used to make assets for use in other authoring apps.

This is a very interesting line of inquiry, but I try and try to think of a game concept and come up blank. All in all I think the authoring is the easy part. It's having a new and interesting idea that's tough.

Where`s all that gamerelated topics gone?

No more special section for that?

There was quite a bit of activity in the Game Development section of the forum a few years ago.

The Game Development area is still forum 33 on the 'ol A:M dial:

http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showforum=33

That section was archived but we should still be able to post to topics there.

Let me know if you experience otherwise.

A search on the word 'games' turns up topics spread across the forum far and wide:
