The german wiki says the same.

Not typical german but we have some john dick and harry s too ;). Bub is a older word for boy in german and jo.. Ah... Dont know maybe joachim or so ;). Who knows... ;) my name isnt very common neighter... At least for people in my age.

As someone who lived in Arkansas for a time, the proper (Arkansas) names are: Joe Bob, Bubba and their sister Bobby Jo. ;)
