Master chief Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 ok i have a part of a model left with 5 points and there is no way to add a lane to cut it in half, i have tried , is there any way to make it form a surface with 5 points Quote
Joe Gamblin Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 First, whenever you have a problem, post a wireframe. Second. Yes, you can fix that easy. Shift-click the 5 points and the five-point patch tool will light up at the bottom of your toolbar. If it doesn't, hit the "period" key twice. Should work no problem. Quote
Master chief Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 ok heres the wire frame with shade to show the layout as its a bit complex i tryed selecting all 5 points which are circled and hiting the (.) or period and all it does is seam to slect more points, i allso tryed the patch option on the side and it seams to do the same , am i doing somethng wrong Quote
agep Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 and hiting the (.) or period and all it does is seam to slect more pointsHit period twice Quote
Caroline Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Period twice usually works. Or try hiding all those points that you don't want, and use the Lasso tool to select. That one always works for me. Quote
KenH Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Same here. The five pint patch you have there is very stretched and could create a crease. This could be reduced with just hooks. Quote
Eric Camden Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I have never seen a model that cannot be modified to move or reduce a 5 pointer. As Ken pointed out, that patch is very stretched out and may cause problems. For a 5 point patch, you want it to be as close to flat as possible, or as close to curving all 5 points equally as possible. Also, try to get all sides to be similar lengths. Quote
Master chief Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 ok this is a more out looked pic of the model if you cant tell its supposed to be a characters hair i have put a black dot of sorts on the 5 points that makes the space , i cant seam to make it flow correctly and as of yet the basic 5 point i have been able to get working leaves a big black area so i have removed it , any suggestions Quote
KenH Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Make it again and try flipping the patch. Most likely though it's too much of a stretch. If it is, you'll have to put in another spline to make the patch cover a smaller area. Quote
Eric Camden Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Here is an example of what could be done. Now you have a smaller 5 pointer that may not pose a problem. The arrows indicate that you could move the splines higher to make an even smaller 5 point patch. Btw, if that's a hair piece, you don't need to have the closed patches on the bottom where it connects to the skull. Kinda hard to see what's going on from the pics. Quote
