Yay. Glad to see someone else has figured it out as well.

 

Personally, it doesn't seem that hard because all I do is draw the shape of a hole and then attach to a model's conture and work from there. Good job. :)

I would be interested to see how smooth your sphere's surface is leading up to the hole.

 

Please, try setting the specular colour of your model to white, the specular intensity and size to 50 and re-render.

Definitely one of the harder things to do in A:M. I haven't explored this specific challenge, but I've tried similar things and it's not easy. I personally would like an even smoother surface adjacent to the edge, but this is a good attempt and it would probably serve most purposes quite well. Good job!
