camzilla Posted February 26, 2005 Posted February 26, 2005 So im working on this boy charactor and I want some texture to the hair. As you can see it looks more like some kind of freakish shell than hair. Any suggestions? C&C welcome Quote
higginsdj Posted February 26, 2005 Posted February 26, 2005 A good start. The bridge between the eyes doesn't look right. If your aiming at a 'button' nose then it's just a tad too pointy for my taste. The cheeks a little flat and you are missing the little 'puffy' bits on the lower cheeks on the side of the mouth. You might also wish to try to puff out and curve the jawline a little. Cheers Quote
JoshB Posted February 26, 2005 Posted February 26, 2005 As for the hair go to good ol' colins-loft.net. Good start I would like to see some adjusting to the cps do reduce those creases around the head. Keep up the good work. J Quote
Vash Posted February 26, 2005 Posted February 26, 2005 Before you hock that think! That looks perfect for some kind of hat. It could come in useful one day. You should also try demented 3d's site which tells how to actually model hair. "Well where can I find demented 3d's site?" asks the man. "I don't know, look it up on Google or something" I said. ChrisThom Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 Hey Colin, I'm curious, how has using partical hair affected your render time versus using the image maps like yu did before. Quote
cfree68f Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 Its not to bad. Raytracing shadows eats it up.. but the displacement maps I used before.. werent much faster. Keeping the actual Hair count down helps a ton.. and you can use multipass.. jiggle the hair a little and get some really nice looking hair. I'm playing with that last bit right now. C Quote
ChrisThom Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 Cool. Hey, any word on the the next No. Ga-TN A:M users are getting together again? Quote

camzilla Posted March 3, 2005 Author Posted March 3, 2005 I'm getting really close to the final look im going for. Let me know what you think guys. Quote
Eos Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 I think the nose is a little bit flat. Try separating some of the CPs to the front. Unfortunately, I have never done hair effects in AM so I can't help you with that, but It's not that difficult... i think Quote
camzilla Posted March 3, 2005 Author Posted March 3, 2005 Thanks eos. I'll see what i can do to fix that. Quote
pancho simpson Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 nice model, i especially like the splinning around the mouth. I'd run te guy through porcelain as the cheeks look a bit weird Quote
camzilla Posted March 4, 2005 Author Posted March 4, 2005 Thanks for the compliments. Where can I learn about porcelain? I don't know anything about it. Quote
camzilla Posted March 8, 2005 Author Posted March 8, 2005 Ok, I just sat the head on the body to get the dimensions right. There is something not quite right so if you can see it please feel free to let me know. Quote
Gary Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 Camzilla, What's strikes me is that the ears and the neck are not quite right. The ears are too low. If you draw a line straight back from the corner of your eye, the attachment point of the ear should be just slightly above that. The neck appears too thin front-to-back, especially compared with the width in the front view. Perhaps the front view is just a little wide as well. If you angled the neck forward a little and then brought the back of the neck further back it would blend into the head a little farther up, which I think would look better. Just my opinion. Quote
camzilla Posted March 16, 2005 Author Posted March 16, 2005 This is a quick update of my work. The head is attached and I'm getting close, however something at the top of his back is off and I haven't even started working on his butt. Please critique Quote
camzilla Posted March 21, 2005 Author Posted March 21, 2005 Ok, I'm just about to start rigging him. I am still looking for any critiques so please have at it. Quote
camzilla Posted March 26, 2005 Author Posted March 26, 2005 Here is the final model accept maybe the teeth. I am new to that part and I'm not quite there yet. Quote
