That did it! Thanks. Why is this stuff not in the book?

I made two Actions, an idle, and a walk. I want the character to be idle, and then walk away. I made a path, and added the actions. But the character slides until the idle is over, and then walks. How do I have the character stand still on the path?

I copied the head of "Fat Guy" onto an re-rigged body. The old rig wouldn't work with the v13's Rig. I re-rigged the body, and it works, however the face is another problem. Using basic face bones and groupings for the face, but the face distorts when I added an action from the library. So I copied and pasted with bones from the first model, but as you can see the face is a bit messed up. Even when I create new bones, and attach them, the face distorts when I apply an action. Is there too many bones? Not enough?

If you have the time and some money I bought these CD's: http://www.creationengine.com/html/p.lasso?p=13199 They were $40 + shipping, and well worth it. The basics:(this is off the top my head) 1. still picture: Add it into your camera as a rotoscope(you may have to change the rotoscope to a projection map) 2. In a model: build a basic shape of the picture (shape of the room, or location the character will be.) 3. Add the model to the project, and line up the camera 4. In the Project work space change the model to be flat shaded and receive shadows 5. Add lights 6. render It is important to know the location of the camera( measure the heights, distance from object, angle), lights, and measurements of the area. Also check out this link http://www.hash.com/users/ed/tutorials/fpm/fpm.htm This is a good example too, Andy

You may need to add a key frame prior to the object hitting the Simcloth. Try one keyframe at 0 and one at 3:28 prior to the Simcloth. Also, is the object hitting the cloth have an added material? When posting a question like this, it it better to add a screen shot or a project file to look at. Andy

That did it thanks! Moving to the top of the group that is. I was in Photoshop mode, so I thought the visible features had to be on top.

Thanks for the reply, I've tried all of those things, but it doesn't seem to take. I have a model with an inside mouth, a stubble and skin color. What ever color the skin is the rest of the groups become. I don't know how to separate the groups. I'm giving it a rest.

Hey has anyone had to deal with this.....I changed a color on a model, and one of the groups was changed that I didn't want to be changed. So I selected it, but it won't change color. Is there a way to reset a color on a group? I thought I could just change the setting and it would change the color.

That did IT! Thanks! I was going nuts with that one!

Hey everyone, I'm getting tired of using the rotate mode, and having it turn every which way but the axis I want to turn. I know I can enter in a number for each axis, but can I use my mouse to turn just one axis? Is there a key that will just allow for that?

I know I asked this before, but I can't find my old post. I have the "Fat Guy" model, and he flips over any time I apply an action. I know I can remake actions, but is it easier to just put in a new rig? if so, what folders do I delete on the old rig? Thanks for any help! Andy

I was just wondering how much of the multi-pass everyone uses. I've read that 16 is the best, but then they have up to 256. Does anyone go that high? And if so, what would be the situation. I was wondering if anyone had a chart......for simple renders use 1 to 4, higher quality use.... and so on.

Well one way is to create an object, sphere, etc, but make it 100% transparent. Attach the corner of the cloth to the object, key frame the object where you want it to go, and add the SimCloth effect. It should follow the cloth. This is a big guess. I have the 2005 DVD tutorials and they attached cloth to a sword, and moved the sword around leaving the cloth hanging.

Is there any good Pose Slider tutorials? Every time I edit a pose slider, it doesn't take. Just looking for more info.

Did you run the SimCloth Simulate? Those changes will not take effect until your run the Simulate again.

I need a plug in that will convert a mdl file to a .dst or .dsq,....is there one, or does the new version of AM allow you to do this? Thanks, Andy

Ok, There are many adjustments for cloth. 1.My understanding is if you make an attachment, it holds that place. So attaching will limit the movement. 2. Adjust the mass, this will increase the cloth's weight 3. Adjust the friction, I lowered it, and that seemed to help. 4. You can add wind too. 5. Adjust the air drag will help too. You have to play with the adjustments to get the effect you want. The adjustments are tricky to find, at least that's my experience. I attached the file after I made some adjustments. Check out this link: http://www.lowrestv.com/arm/search3.asp?bo...ateAdded%20desc Hope that helps, Andy blankettest.prj.zip

I like the 6 steps vs the 13 steps I did...thanks again. Here is an updated tutorial. New_Alpha_Directions.pdf

Ok, That works! Thank you. I have to change my directions. My only concerns.... 1. I have to draw, or start doing another procedure for the transparency to take effect in AM. (I'm on a Mac, so I don't know if that is a mac issue. 2. If i have any sections of my grid that DOES NOT contain the decal, I have to delete them, or it just shows up white. 3. I have been saving as 32 bit, but why is it important? Thanks for this, I'll post new directions later today. Andy

Ahhh...that makes sense. 3d max does the same thing, I should have known. Also, I want to clear up my last post.....I didn't trash the model because of the light.....if you get my drift. The next one is coming along just fine. Thanks!

I trashed the first model and starting again. I was in model mode, bones mode when I added the light. I shaded it in model mode. I just didn't know if that was common when putting a light inside an object.
-
I'm just not getting this light thing. I made a space type ship. In modeling mode, I added a light in the center of the ship. I wanted the light to shine out. The light shines out but the model turned black. Is this normal?

I tried that, but with the alpha white, and nothing in the selection, it wouldn't work for me. Also, if the Alpha was gray, I was getting a trasparent image. I would like to cut down the steps somehow.
