  1. Hi

Here some toughts about that ,

huh, don't know if I understood correctly but I' not sure pre-setted choreo for every scene would help me in anyway.

It seem that I start new scene choreo from the previous scene (when the set are the same) .

So I save new action to start from and keep all the setting I've made in place

I use the basic set choreo available (in shared data)to built the first choreo of the sequence.

..and not just using the basic choreo directly cause I optimise the scene choreo with different technics, layer etc.

If someone can pre-set this first choreo of a sequence...render and set the layers image needed , cutting x-tra useless meat from the renamed basic set to keep the minimum needed for that scene, import the .wav into choreo, setup the general guideline for the camera (action, render settings, etc.) this would be nice and helpful

But this work is very specific for every scene and seeing it that way , I would agree with it...

at the same time I agree that it would give a director some handle to do his work and speed up the process.

It deserve a try and if it doesn't fit the way I work ,we all have our little habit, I would find a workaround and adapt anyway.

*For now, what would help me best is to have the.wav files available into scene movie directory so I wouldn't have to extract it everytime.

    my two cent

    Thanks

    Al

  2. Hi

I would see every lips (exept for special character) the same color as the flesh but a bit darker

...I mean using the same color tone family as the flesh color ( same RGB data but a tone lower)

..the hair color is not so bad but maybe it can be improve ....more natural ? less shiny ?

...the effect is too much for me.

Also I've noticed that the irish square design of his suit tend to deform badly with the character moves.

A different pattern who support more mesh deformation would be something to try...

The leather pieces of garnment should be more ...textured...scratched.maybe the button shouldn't be in metal...what about a darker color than the leather ?

maybe a diffuse map to get an used look?

Also I was thinking of a "reflective area" map for tin woodman , so the reflection occurs only at the right place...it could be especially effective on the face ...a kind of greyscale mask map ...lowering reflection around eyes and hard corner...also adding some texture on this map should texture the reflection effect a bit ...kind of brushed metal?

... those comments are just my perso opinion .

    Thanks

    Al

  3.

As far as I can tell an ActionObject is pretty much an uneditable mass inthe chor. you can pick it but the elements that make it up are not individually manipulatable.

    Hi Robert,

...In fact you can do it easily.

Select the model in choreo and switch to skeletal mode

the object used as action object seem unselectable at first view but you have to click on it and their bones appear...

that's it... it work for me

this said , i'm not sure it is the best way to "dress" the set but it's good to move thing around and animate stuff...

...and as you said , probably that , chariot and other moveable element should be better placed directly into choreo

( ...new folder option is great to keep thing ordered)

    Al

  4. hehe! I like this picture, nice render

please, cut off that lipstick on Woot mouth !

And what is that hair color ? My old grand-mother got a better one at her weekly hair session salon.

He look a bit like the young archie ! hehehe !

    sorry but I'm speaking frankly.

The metal texture and reflection look really good...you should pass on your receip to the Tin Wood man?

    ;)

    Al

  5. ...And I'd like to suggest that you test using blue fill lights to get bluer shadows.

or maybe using the choreo property "global ambiance type" ( to a blueish color) would do the trick too ?

edit: ...after some test , I'm not sure...there is the global intensity to deal with too so...

    my 2 cent

    Al

  6. ... an "action object". What's the advantage of that? It would be great if we could just move them around in the chor where camera angles are staked out. It's very difficult to duplicate a camera angle in the action.

Also if they were in the chor we could make inactive props that weren't important at any time.

I like Alain's suggestions, too. Alain, would you be able to draw up a floor plan of how you'd dress the main floor?

    Hi,

Well I think Stian can deal with that easily...he have a better idea of what he got in hand to fill the area.

The main objective as you mentioned is to get an used look on that place.

Of course with a setup like that , lot of comments and add on can be suggested but it's important to let the guy in charge all the freedom to express his creativity...(nice sentence to use when you have no time ! hehe!)

    ---------------------

    Action object ...

About the action object used to dress a set...I think you can still pick an "action" object directly in choreo if you switch to skeletal or bone ?isn't it ?

The main thing here was to keep the choreo as clean as possible...

note that more than one action can be use to dress a set, like :one for the office inside, one for the second floor...one for the first...

cutting the overall set in area ( by using different dressing action)would be a good idea to save on rendering time?

Also , personnally I see the dressed choreo as the "main" or "base" setup ...it is use to render "layer" image, large, pan, travelling camera shot , the general light setup, general placement of object and everything .

Once the main setup done ,I would copy it as a new choreo and trash what I don't need to keep only what is necessary to a specific shot, that way I keep maximum AM ressource available for , animation ,effect, light, rendering time etc.

I'm sure you're already aware of those comments , I just want to expose it again for...?

(glup!...I don't know how to complete this sentence? ...let say cause I've a big mouth ! hehehe !)

    thanks for reading ;)

    Al

PS:With the light setup this set will be grandiose !

  7. Hi,

The problem happen when I switch "shortcut to" Woot proxie to woot final in .choreo

It happen only when Woot "model bone" in choreo action has been translate and rotate far away of the 0,0,0 coordinate.

the switched model doesn't show up at the same relative position...in fact a bit on the left from top view.

I've made a .prj file to show the bug.

Hope it will repeat on others computer.

    Thanks

  8. Nice shop Stian.

The rail is just great now!

I like the air pump mechanical setup you did there ! :)

    Some toughts:

-a big stack of coal in a corner with a wagon full of it, couple of shovels there

-also some other pile of mineral and rock needed for the metal foundry

-and big pile of logwood on another side

-a big furnace for metal fusion...the one you already have is perfect but but I would enlarge it with a larger chimney and pump...cause of the gaz

-I would also place side of the biggest furnace a small one for the blacksmith work ...with all the smithy tools

-stack of iron pillar , large plank, train wheels and other scrap stocked under the balcony or nearby the walls...just to fill up and dirt the place a bit

-also some large woodlog tables on the center between the rail where you can put some rough tin WIP,

-maybe a bench or a chair so the tinman can sit...

    ------------------------------------

those are just some suggest , do as you wish.

...nice texturing work ! super set!

  9. Hi Jason.

    ...got some questions.;)

... why naming .act and .mdl with this # convention?

...cause it's not exactly the way I've done it.

(...this has always been my problem at school ! hehehe.)

I put .act into their respective dir: act/seq/scene/ folders

and I just named it with an action desciption name ,like: tin_sit or tin_3steps etc.

But I've named the .cho and .prj with that convention xx_xx_xx.cho since once you load a .prj or .cho their respectives files are loaded automatically...

... the files used in a cho or prj can come from differents places on the SVN so ?

and I agree with it for the movie render of course...

let me know if I'm doing wrong.

    thanks

    Al

  10. I agree with William about the window.

...and It look too churchy to me.

Here is a work around so everybody can be happy .

the stained glass windows should be OPEN to the outside.

that way we can keep the "stained glass" and have a look on the outside.

Since the castle is very tall and huge the point of view from the window should reflect this.

    ---------------------

Some personnal OT toughts on the set:

The light setup should be revised,IMHO add bright torchlight burning on the wall or something else

...to create a mood of a BIG place, distance and depth of a vast room.

...reflection on Tin Wood man is important but a reflective floor for a tin castle should be cool too ? forget about those heavy reflection rendering option and workaround, keep it simple

maybe some small(in background) guard/vallet nearby wall and on window side would populate the castle?

it seem a bit empty, it would help for the depth by giving a character size to compare to

    my 2 cents again

    :)

  11. Hi

Here is blocking and timing of 02_09_02

The files of sc 1 and 2 are uploaded on SVN

    --------notes-----------

...this is an issue that doesn't seem to be adressed yet.

Woot's arms are too short for his forearms.

...so in my animation, I've change the scale of Woot arm in action.

I think that's why the smartskin doesn't work well.

    -----------------------

Is proxie character have some facial rig set? I haven't found much ...

Is it better to use final character right away ? any procedure to follow ?

As you noticed , I haven't do any lipsynch here ...if someone want to take this part

It will be just fine...you can chime in here

Lipsynch action will be added over my blocking action right in choreo...

btw which size and compression is better to post here?

    here QT sorenson3 : 3.69mb ...maybe big a bit ?

Thanks in advance for every comments

    thanks

    Al

  12. Wow ! nice work Fab

...I'm not sure about all that yellow tone.

in full daylight the color should be more white

so the road etc would dim a bit into greyish ...

It's just my personal point of view ...

Great picture again ! I like the mountain too!

    :)

  13. Hi,

The Seq 9_01 files has been updated to SVN...

    \Shared Data\Models\Set_chors\Yoop_Castle\yoop_castle_final\proxies landscape

    use project labeled : Anim_scene9_base.prj

PS: Don't overwrite those files...post your modification to the forum first

    Thanks

    Al

  14. Hi Yves,

the files is quicktime sorenson3 and weight 3 mb so it shouldn't cause any problem

...keep me posted of this issue

    About the lightning and foreground:

Note that everything there are 100% proxie so not finish...all foreground elements are not textured at all

I've render it with final render mode only cause it was fast enought to do it and it show better the action than in shaded mode

Also the castle, moon and mountain is in one layer so the lightning must be change in the "general" yoops castle setup .prj

    ------------------------------

My idea is to split the castle layer in two part:

-one for the mountain and the moon

    -one for the castle itself

...the foreground will remain in full 3d in that choreo

...maybe I would try some foreground bushes layer ??... will see

    -------------------------------

Since the lightning of the character is not linked to the castle, moon, sky(layer) I can easily change lightning on character to get more moon shine as you suggest.

About the background contrast , bright sky etc

...My goal is to keep the focus on the castle ...There is some character action happening , ok but the focus should remain the castle discovering for the first time ...

Well this is how I've read the animatic

...I want to add that, for now, I won't plan to edit the animatic...it should be nailed so

    ---------------------------------

I got that idea os using a fog or green smoke layer in front of the castle ...so we would start by focusing more on the character and switch focus to the castle as it reveal trought the smoke?...this would dim the sky a bit too...

Anyway, I will post the files on SVN soon .so is you wish you would play with it and add refinment on lightning etc.

    ----------------------------------

    My intention is :

...to go straight blocking the next scene... of course this include some camera, layer and lightning setup but I won't get it to the final rendering step before I have more of the scene done( outside the castle)...some issue may occur as I go so I prefere to go rough and refine.

Since I'm there, my intention is to block animation and leave the lipsynch aside for the moment...so someone else would be able to drop the lipsynch over my blocking action

    So:

    - blocking character moves

-add lipsynch action over in choreo (using blend %method)

-add facial expression over in choreo (using blend % method)

I don't know if it's the way to go but it's the way I wish to go ;)

Thanks for the comments, sorry for the long answer

    :)

    Al

    PS

Hey ! Robcat would you give me some feedback too? it would be so cool.

I appreciate and read your comments all the time.

Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the animation ...

Normally, the foreground would be more contrasty than the background due to atmospheric effect

Given that the sky is so bright, the scene should be lit brighter. This would help accentuate the contrasts in the castle and in the characters.

    hehehe ! it's cool Clinton!

    Music is 2/3 of animation...

Why the two black stripes? have I render it at the wrong size ?

    I've done half of 720 X 405 or 360 X 203 approx.

    any clue?

    :)

    Al

I put some basic music and effects to the scene. It may aid you with your already awesome shot.

  15. Hi

Good rendering average time , nice effect.

    some suggest:

-Add some torch light in the background

-Put a spotlight list to tinwoodman to light his back or side(rim spotlight/no shadow)

...to increase light coming from back of the throne

-increase light or color saturation coming from the window

-Column , stairway and throne should be made of tin too

-no red carpet... royal blue or green carpet with white stripe would be better...IMHO

    ...always use red with parsimony.

    that's was my 2 cents

    Thanks

    :)

    Al

  16. Hi ,

here is the seq9 sc1 with timing

I will post the files on SVN asap for those who want to look at it.

I've use all proxie models and layer

...the castle and background mountain are one layer

...I think to split it in two so I can move the mountains to creat more distance.

...I would also add some smoke layer between character and the castle

...so it would be kind of hid at first.

    -quicktime sorenson

    -360 X 203 (half of 720 X 405)

    -average 9 sec by frame

    All comments are welcome

    thanks

    Al

    seq_9_1c.mov

  17. Very nice Nancy, :)

    heart texture is great

    some comments here :

    On Tin Woodman:

    I like your Tin setup

OT...not the pose ;) look like a princess salute , king salute pose is different.

I would see some details on his thigh side...an ornamented goldish stripe? to fit with the top...

    On Woot:

Woot look a bit effeminated isn't it ?

I think the white boot and white striping give that impression

and what if you reverse the tint ? dark striping on light fabric ?

    nice stuff anyway

    Al

  18. Hi Russel

the scene with question sign you point on the plan is not at the right place.

you place it at the front door , outside the castle ...and this is the

yoop's castle oustide set that I'm working on

the scene you misplace seem to be a view of something else...

maybe the corridor before the yoop chamber ? or ...I don't know

    Thanks

    Al

Hm now I am a little bit confused. Which sets are we talking about here. I have placed the sets on the concept according to my understanding. Please tell me what is right and what is wrong.

    Russel
