  1. Thanks Stian.

Btw , a little comments about the rails on the floor.

Should it be lower or build inset of the floor?

My suggest would be to add some floor panels in between the rails to raise the floor so both are on the same level and the rails remains apparent.

this would avoid further walking animation problem.

About the roof, good idea for the inside . keep in mind the giant tree over the house as shown in the exterior scene.

maybe you should keep sun-well and roof on the back of the workshop ? to leave enough place for the giant tree on the top

-I'm thinking, what about a giant root passing through the roof somewhere ? it whould complete the canvas?

    my 2 cents

    :)

Thanks. Do you mean the bricks or the rock? Either way both are on SVN. The bricks are called "\data\Shared Data\Materials\Dark Trees\tx_building\Building_Brick.mat" and the rock is called "\data\Shared Data\Materials\Dark Trees\tx_stone\stoneGreyRock.mat".

  2. ...what about that one ?

If someone have an old tree who would fit in this kind of desolate landscape?

It would save me quite some time...I don't like much that one I use.

    thanks in advance

  3. ...new update

I've change the moon to the left side and set the main light color to something hotter (whity yellow)

this create the effect of a sundown mood on the front right as the moon raise on the back left.

the shadows comes from the... back right ?...heuu? this should be revise...

I said front or back if you take the castle as the central point so...

??well it's not clear for me too !

    hehehe!

I wanted some light nearby the door but I don't want to put some torch lights

So I've temporarily added this bubble light with no source.

...maybe it would be some fire coming from the earth each side of the road ?

    Thanks

    Al

  4. Hi, well...It's look very cold too ! I will work on that...

This should change when I'll add texture to the landscape, and mountain

I also plan to add some tree hair in mountain slope with a density map ,creating a blur to the snow summit.

About the haze, actually I use an image fog who is the same as the sky layer

(sky image is not final too)...the castle fog is set to off, so I can make the mountain to look farther ...

, also I use two lights: one for backlighting from the moon (now set to lightblue color) and a blue color spot as counter light (is it what is called Rim light ?)...anyway

I don't plan to use a skydome on it for now...we'll see

I'm working with a flat screen(window xp) here and I'm not sure how the render look like

Is it too dark or too bright ?

Thanks for your comments Ken... always appreciated

    Al

Exceedingly cool. I know there's only one light source, but I'd like to see a fill light on the castle to draw it out of the background a little. Maybe adding in my "Haze model" from the svn would give the mountains a little more distance....not sure if they need it though.

  5. Hey man,

Those comments are very very very interesting!

Refreshing and instructive ! , I learn a lot by looking at it and I will stay tuned for more.

Thanks you very much for sharing your knowledge with us like that !

    BTW:Is someone will adress Woot's arm/forearm/finger proportion ?

I think something must be done about that before there too much work done with it.

    Thanks again, thumbs up!

  6. ...Still in progress

-a kind of moat (every stone modeled individually) so it's good for close up scene nearby the door

    -new moon...use of glow property

-glow and environment property set on the castle dome

    -sign hided...

    -new texture here and there...

    -light adjustment

    ...etc

    :)

  7. Thanks Russel for your comments.

the moat already exist but actually it is not very deep and it's part of the landscape ,maybe I should get it deeper , hand made at least nearby the door ...good idea

I got some ideas in progress too , I 'll try some bolean cracking on the castle and change it's texture by some squary stones. we'll see

    later

    :)

    Al

  8. Thanks for your interesting comments,

I was looking at the moon yesterday, and the shadow side seem to fade away with the sky...

only the enlighted side was apparent and I was able to see distinctly the surface texture on the enlighted side...

Moon have lot of aspect..I will try some other to see which would fit best the scene...

Also the light setup is not finish ... I want it to be more coherent with the moonlight.

About the neon sign...well it's easy to get it off , so I leave it there for now since I like the idea .

... I won't make scene if the idea is not retained. ;)

A thing about mountain that hit me is , modeling the ridge first made it lot easier, once done on all axis,

you switch to top view and complete the mesh with concentric circle mesh from top to bottom...

It would be a good theme for a little tut ?...if I found some time .

since that ,look at this stuff : kind of fly mount everest in 3d

it need to install a plugin first but it is cool

    http://www.mt-everest-3d.com/Go-3D_en/go-3d_en.html

    thanks again

    Al

The moon looks like a ball above the terrain though.

To follow up on that... Planets, and objects far away won't exhibit a 3D look; i.e. planets don't look like spheres. Why? Because shading is a function of the angle of incidence of the light on the surface that reflects into your eye. Most reflected light does not hit your eye because the rays reflect away (of course!). Only a small cone of reflected rays hit your eye. The base of that cone depends on how far away the reflecting object is - objects far way have a small base. The moon is a long way away: only the most parallel rays, exactly aimed, will reach your eye (the others miss Earth entirely!) Which ones miss? You guessed it, the ones that provide shading.

  9. Here, is my latest attempt on the yoop's castle exterior setup.

it still in progress...the lights setup is not final

    on this render:

    - I temporarily cut off hair plant...

    want to add:

-trees aren't there( want to rebuild this in a more scary style)

-need hi rez texture near the front door.( castle crack and dirt , gravel road , rock etc.)

-and some hi rez texture on the road near the camera

-and basic texture for mid distance landscape

    done:

-rebuild of landscape mesh and rock

    -rebuild of the dressing action

-new mountain mesh...finally find how to build mountain !;)

    -new broken tower

    -doornob

I also use material effector ...a very cool AM feature

and some other stuff I don't have in mind now.

    thanks for any comments

    :)

  10. ...and what about that kind of landscape ?

    I use layer mount...

    layer moon

a spotlight is aiming to the mountain at the back

    Also a fog image

thoughts: layer image are faster than a real landscape...that's for sure

    Al

    post-667-1159565897_thumb.jpg

  11. Eh ! it look great Stian !

I would see a big project in progress on the back...kind of zepelin balloon or a funny plane or car?

I'm asking, maybe the roof near the entrance should be lower ?

...kind of hall at the entry before going to the full workshop ?

...so it fit better with the outside workshop set?

    BTW:

Can you post the light rig or light parameter you use(.cho?) somewhere so we can use it too ?

    my 2 cents

    Thanks

    Al

I've started to rebuild the choreography and the models to make it look bigger. Is this better?

Somehow the cookie cut decals would not render correctly?

  12. Ok Thanks Ken, I'll add it in a sky layer.

About the neon sign...I got this idea in a flash so I've added it right away. I found it funny .

... maybe with an electric buzz sound , some flashing and a couple of bugs turning around.?

...You know , once the characters are inside the castle the "no vacancy" would light up ?

It would be a trick used by the Yoop to fool stranger and catch them...

    Al

  13. Hi ,

Here my latest update of the Yoop castle outside.

-a neon vacancy sign,so the guys would have a reason to go there !

-the building has been re-build from the ground

    -a new door

    -new landscape

    -mountain ring

    -new texture everywhere

-a hair tree and a hair branch in the foreground (camera 1)

(tree and branch are directly drop into choreo)

-hair plants are growing on the castle walls

-a layer is used for the moon

-light and camera(3) setup in the choreo

    -an dessing action

-forest and other hair plants models are availbale in the project (folder)but not used for this render.

they can be used as necessary.

-I've put a volumetric spot falling on the castle roofdome but it doesn't work ??

-I've uploaded all the files to SVN.

Maybe someone else would like to add and improve this setup... Fab ? Yves ?

it would be good to have other's touch on it too...

    Thanks :)

  14.

BUT: i have duplicated kevin's settings for the tin servant's hair, but it just wont render as nice as his .. is it the lights or am i doing something wrong

..Sometime I have to reassign the map image in the hair property panel...seem to lose it pointer in some situation

    another issue

...I have also some problem to delete material folder...once a material is inside a PSW folder and deleted ...after closing and reopenning the project , the material reappear in the folder ? the folder is hard to delete and cause some freeze

if you experience the same let me know, I'll try to make a report.

    Al

  15. Hi

this render is bigger than the camera size...

the leafs and tree in front will be in the cut , maybe blur by the focal lenght ?.

Since a couple of scene happen in that set, I have to fit different texture resolution in different spot like nearby the front door...under the tree upper the trail etc.

also I try populate the set only where it's really needed ...

    At this time :

-special map used for the hair plant and tree and not final, I would edit them into photoshop further.

-I will add more forest etc...I want to have tree with just a few leafs in as we approach the castle...kind of semi-desert.

    - I would modify the castle so it fit better with Ken inside stuff...a part collapsed wall.more detail around window and roof.

-improving the light setup and effect to get more scary/strange mood

Where can I get this A:M paint ?

    Thanks for feedback :)

    Al
