  1. Yes it is possible to solve such problems sometimes, but u need a pretty deep understand of the strcutures OR you just go through the model file (A COPY OF IT!) and delete "<OPENTAG>....</CLOSETAG>" parts, till it works and try to find the problem like that.

A:M file formats are XML files from v13 on.

  2. At least the people there are asking the same thing from time to time...
I do not find a shop on the page itself or linked in the navigation. Is there one?

It is important to know, that cgtalk.com (or some of the other domains from earlier) is no longer valid (since 2020 or something in that direction).
You need to go to "https://cgsociety.org/".

Anyway: It seems to be very less frequently posted then in "the good old days", yes.

  3. You are talking about https://forums.cgsociety.org, right?
Not sure... there is a spam post up in the news section for instance from 6 days ago, but the one from 9 days ago seems valid.
Maybe they are just on vacaction for the time between new years and 6th of January?

But not sure about it... haven't been around for a long time there since they closed down the A:M Forum.

  4. I loved it how you just got the wick, copied it and create a flame from it... very satisfying ;).
And very interesting that you are using the HSL sliders instead of RGB for colors, attaching the lamp and the broom with bones to the hand and after that getting the hand right, and especially how fast you got Radiosity to work like you wanted it to was pretty much amazing.

Very well done, nice workflow and a very nice result :).

Best regards and thanks a lot for sharing.

Well I went and saw Avatar 2.

It was honestly better than I expected it to be.  I could easily believe every bit of half a billion dollars ended up on the screen.  But if they truly spent that much then I wouldn't expect anything less than amazing CGI.

This is probably the least woke thing to come out of Hollywood in a while.   There is a strong, pro-family message and the dad is actually a strong dad, not a bumbling doofus.

The female characters are well-written.   The only thing I found to be a stretch was a pregnant Navi woman going into battle, but I suppose you can hand-wave that away with "alien biology".

It's definitely a long movie, but it seemed to go by fairly quickly.   You will probably need to stretch your legs at some point.  Right after any big fight is probably the best time.

They set themselves up for a sequel, so there may be an Avatar 3 at some point.

    To recap:

The good:   looks amazing.    The 3D is well done and doesn't detract from the story.    It's mostly a family friendly movie, although the violence         might be a bit much for children under 12.   It's far less gory than say, The Walking Dead.   Roughly on par with the first Avatar, I guess.

The bad:  at times I felt like I was watching a mashup of The Abyss, Titanic and Dances with Wolves.  The environmental messaging seemed a bit heavy-handed in parts.

The silly:   if you want to play a drinking game where you'll end up blacking out or dying of alcohol poisoning, every time one of the kids says "bro" take a swig of whiskey.

Final verdict:  go see it, but if you're taking the whole family, maybe shoot for a matinee or skip the concessions.   You could easily blow through $100 on movie night these days.  Overall, I'd say it is easily 2.5 out of 4 stars.

I would say 4/5 stars for todays standards.

I do not see a problem in a pregnant alien woman going into a fight if she, her family and her tribe is attacked by an overwhelming army striving to kill everybody.
It does just not make any sense to not fight in that scenario because otherwise she, her unborn baby and everybody attached to her will die. That she is that effective in melee battles and still able to deliver a supposable healthy child even after getting hit is of cause only possible because of alien biology, but not impausible for a stronge, warrior like tribe alien like she is. It somehow makes sense to be able to do that if they are harder to kill anyway.

Concerning the strong woman images vs. traditional family image: I do not care too much either way. Things change, but there are still and I assume will still be people more people living the more traditional approach in future too. Both are fine with me. I find it irritating, that most movies today are too much focused on one of the sides and there is an unproportianal amount of stories about "non-traditional" life styles based on the numbers of people who are non-binary/homosexual, etc. from the statistics anyway, but I guess it is newer and more interesting to show those than the once which have been around for thousand years.

  6. Ok tried this out and found out, that it isn't working really as expected.

This might be a way to do it – it says it works for Windows 10 and 8:
    https://www.howtogeek.com/133405/how-to-get-classic-style-themes-back-on-windows-8/

So I am not sure if it does.
You can still change the interface color / accent colors and set it to affect the borders etc too, but it does not seem to get recognized in A:M itself.
I just did a low priority request on A:M Reports about it. If it is easy to solve, it might get solved in a future release, but since this really is just a small nice to have, it might take a while.

  7. Yeah, I know what you are talking about. But if you like grey and less 3d stuff etc. do what I describe above. You gain performance and you get a very "old scool" look. It will not give you an option to directly change the colors to grey but grey is the base color you will get with that. (if you would like green, it would be a problem, but grey is easier)

  8. He is talking about the Windows 10 Style, not anything in A:M. I think it is pretty picky, but if you want to get rid of the "modern" style, try going to "Settings > Info > Extended System settings (on the right in the list), go to "Extended" > "Visual Effects" and turn off "Peek" and whatever you want to be off.

That should make it much closer to the old look you are used to.

I am however pretty sure you will acustom pretty fast to Win10s look, because it just is the better system, even so you are very likely going to have a learning curve with it.

PS: 8 GB of RAM is pretty low amount for C4d, Premiere, Vegas or A:M nowadays... just saying.

Your best bet for tutorials online for AM is either the Barry Zundel tutorials that he has uploaded to YouTube, or the forum members here.   Rob is correct that any other links to resources that were on the forum have since been lost to time.   You might get lucky with using the Wayback Machine on Archive.org in order to go to some specific websites that you may know of, but generally anything posted to the forum is long since defunct or link-rotted.

I believe this is the full list of Barry's tutorials here:

And also, I feel I must recommend Robcat's tutorials, he's got quite a bit of good stuff he's uploaded over the years.   Rob also runs Live Answer Time on Saturdays (most Saturdays, anyway, with the exception of holidays) and that's an excellent resource for getting some one-on-one assistance if you're struggling with something.

Mine should still be there ;).

  10. Any reason written in the log why? You can set different limits of how often they will try or how many errors are allowed till the "give up" in the settings.
That helps only with temporay network problems, etc. but sometimes increasing the value can help.

So the DVD file doesn't get updated to the latest version?  I just bought the sub for this year and haven't gotten my download link yet, it's been an hour.  When will I get the link?  I may just buy the $300 version, but not if it is not the latest version.  Can you help?

There is no functional difference between the $300 version and the subscription for the time of the major version being the same. After that, the subscription will be current / can be updated as long as the subscription is running (after that it will no longer work till you buy a new subscription) and the $300 version will still be useable but will no longer receive updates. (u would then have to pay 300 again to get the newest version)

The download to get can be found here and is the same for subscription and $300 version:

However what you will need is the key. It can be found in the webstore (in general) or it may be in the email. If you did not receive an email, see this to see if it is available in the login area of the webstore. You can see how to do that here (only step 1-5 are relevant very likely):

If you could not find neighter an key nor the email, please contact support. (this may take a little)

You can't anticipate what the ai will come up with for an image so I doubt it will replace artists in that sense. Benefits of much of the new tech is it can bring real time content creation within reach of ordinary and small shops. Look at the new Unreal Engine and Meta Human.

Would be nice to have AM be able to use the Unreal engine as a real time renderer.

Not sure about that. AIs learn what people like and if you can do something like here "punch 3x at head, pelvis and head again" and it can do such a thing, it may be possible to do much more. And anyway: It would be pretty easy for customers to talk to a AI instead of an artist to get something – especially if you can name a similar look, feel or composition.

Hopefully that will take a lot of time, but impossible? Not even close if you ask me.
