Since there are some people on here that have a casual or not-so casual interest in the nuts and bolts of CG, I thought I would post this Computer Graphics bundle from Humble Bundle. There are several good books in the bundle, easily worth the $15 price to get all of them: https://www.humblebundle.com/books/computer-graphics-crc-press-books?hmb_source=navbar&hmb_medium=product_tile&hmb_campaign=tile_index_5

Not to distract from the current C++ studies but those not engaged in that might wish to lean forward even further and explore the world of quantum computing. Pretty sure everyone needs this: http://djv.sourceforge.net/ Some pluses: - Actively developed - Open Source (view the code on either sourceforge or github) - Cross platform (Win, Mac, Linux) - OpenEXR support (see Layers menu) - Distro'd with ffmpeg (presumably includes a build of ffmpeg that is compatible with BSD license) - easily convert files/sequences to other formats - Multithreaded raster processing/playback (using OpenGL 4.1 apparently) - etc. - etc. See: Documentation The latest release (which is the one you want to have) is a Beta release.

I remember back in the day Hash inc. sold t-shirts. Any chance they would ever again? I used to have the H*A*S*H beige one and one that said. "say no to polygons". that was always a good conversation starter when out in public.

Much like how we do textures in CG, vinyl "wood" flooring is really just an image applied to a surface. But carefully chosen texture names can go a long way to suggesting the allure of natural, organic substances Vinyl samples seen on Craigslist...

Well, now having used the replacement Animation Master v15 DVD since last February, I am hoping to get the offered non-expiring, Animation Master ver. 19 at the trade show price of $99.99 , as you offered last Jan.-February. Is there now a version 20 or is that included in the non-expiring terms? I have unable to build a new machine in 2020. If I install it on the old laptop and later uninstall it and install on the new machine, will that work or is it one machine per life? The old laptop uses a software version of OpenGL, will that work for now? It works (slowly) on other software. What do I need to do to get Ver. 19 at the offered price. An email was sent earlie…

If you like long articles with narrow focus, NY Times has one about the sudden influence of Japanese style in the 19th century How Japonisme Forever Changed the Course of Western Design Although it is not covered in this article I imagine the graphic flatness and clarity of Japanese drawing was some influence in moving newspaper cartooning away from the over-detailed and over-rendered style of a Thomas Nast in the later 19th Century to the simplicity of a George "Krazy Kat" Herriman in the early 20th.

We went to see Disney's Encanto this evening. While I thought the story was charming and thought it lacked something. There were several things that caught my eye. First was the cloth simulations. Each character had multiple layers of clothing. The characters interacted with their clothing. In one of the dance scenes the main character was grabbing her skirt as she moved through the scene. I think it was one of the best cloth scenes I have seen. I soon forgot she was an animated character and enjoyed her dance moves. Second was the hair of the characters. The dynamics and look and feel was spot on. Third was the lighting of the scenes. I felt like I …

Some of you are wrestling with storyboarding your animation projects. Here are some real production storyboards from the Hanna Barbera series "Cow & Chicken." They look quite different from the storyboards that one might make to present an idea to non-film-makers, such as the clients of an ad agency who want a commercial to advertise their product. Here the artist has drawn just enough to identify the setting, the characters, the camera angle, the action. These are for creatives to talk to creatives. But LOTs of drawings. Each one might account for only a small slice of screen time. The whole 150 drawings might cover three minutes? While each dra…

Animation Mentor has announced a free Zoom "webinar" on facial animation. I'm guessing it will be about 90 minutes long. They will probably be demonstrating in Maya but I'm sure whatever they do is doable in A:M. How to reproduce those things might be an interesting topic to discuss here on the forum! Register for webinar Animating Facial Expressions A recording of the live webinar has been posted

At Live Answer Time today we watched the very first animation treatment of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" Produced and directed by Max Fleischer as "A Jam Handy Picture" in 1948. Of the four credited animators ... Howard Kakudo ... animator Robinson McKee ... animator Fletcher Smith ... animator William Sturm ... animator ... only Sturm has a substantial IMDb trail, having been a former Fleischer Studio animator. The original Rudolph story was written by Robert May for an ad camp…

Here is a posing tip I had not encountered before. It may work better for puppets who can never shift eye direction, but it is important that your character appear to have purpose in where he looks.

Hello- I saw a product at Comic Con last year and it was intriguing. This new app allows animators to tell stories that are sort of hybrids between animated storyboards and full animation. They also pay for content on a sliding basis. https://www.storiaverse.com/for-animators For any storytellers on the Forum, check them out.. Tom

It's all 'math' to me... My question as it relates to 3D modeling is: How does this contribute to continuity of adacent (relatively) planar surfaces? There is another element of this video suggests 0-0=0. But is this more 'pulling rabbit from hat'* in considering that an x - y = z where none of the variables are (invariably) equal? How equal are they and when are they equal? *To use a phrase from the video. This underlying schemes concerns polygons. Useful for math but historically an obstacle for splines and patches. Terms to consider regarding continuity: Triagons, non intersecting diagonals …
