Mark, I've been noting several classic comic books and animated films that have reminded me of you and 'The Wannabes' lately thoughts on what I've see. This isn't to distract you but perhaps to inspire you and suggest there were others who have paved the way and been through similar experienced. There have certainly been many. Here's a fun one from Frank Frazetta: http://cartoonsnap.blogspot.com/2011/03/fr...-daffy-and.html ...and not quite a pirate but the origin of Popeye reminded me of Flemm's initial quest to sail to sea. I find it fascinating that he originally appeared as only a secondary character in the Thimble Theater comic strip. It sure did…

I felt inspired yesterday to create a piece of 3D fan art for another webcomic called NPC. This is one of the comics I read on an RSS feed for another forum I visit. The comic is about a female gamer and features her two blue cats, Chloe and Bink. I'm not a cat person, but I get a kick out of them. Anyway, I was looking at one of her comics and felt compelled to see if I could recreate Bink & Chloe in 3D. Warning for the saccharin-intolerant, they are very cute characters. Although, in truth, their looks are deceiving. :-) I also created an anaglyph version: The creator of the strip seemed to really like the images and posted them on he…

I don't think they'd mind me sharing the Animation:Master ad I put together for the inside front cover of the Curse of Greyhawk Island:

I finally got a chance to finally sit down and read "Greyhawk and the Starbucklers of the Caribbean" that i bought when i saw Mark at the Dallas Web Comic Con several months ago. I really enjoyed it! I liked the story, i liked the banter, I liked the characters and the artwork looked great too. I've never actually read a whole graphic novel before so some of the devices that translate cinematic conventions (like a "Voice over") into print baffled me at first but after re-reading a few pages i think I caught on to their cleverness. I can see it being a successful movie. It oughta be! I recommend it and I think there's some way to purchase it in some f…

Working on a freelance job, which means I get to work on something other than Wannabe Pirates. :-) Storyboards and character design have been approved by the client, so I'm working on the modeling. Close to finishing his head:

Hey, just a head's up that I'm going to be posting a series of stories on The Wannabe Pirates blog about how I create the webcomic. The first one went up today and just answers the question "What 3D software do you use?" The answer to which, everybody here already knows. :-) I'm not sure how many posts it will take to cover the process, but I'm going to be putting them up every so often.

Hey all! Doing the Wannabe Pirates webcomic in A:M has meant a *lot* of modeling, but modeling is probably the aspect of using A:M that I enjoy the most, so that kind of works out. I thought it would be fun to do one of the characters out in the open and sort of make a sort-of tutorial as I go along. This character is going to first appear in strip #72, which will be online on the 10th of February, but I'll actually work on the strip the Friday before, which is the 5th. So it'll have to be finished complete 9 days from now. (I won't actually spend that many days working on it. In fact, I'm hoping to only spend *one* day working on it.) Here's the rough…

Mark asked me if I was interested in rigging his characters faces. Of course I said yes and we worked out a little deal. It gave me a reason to complete the face rig for the 2008 rig I was working on. I'm actually having fun installing the rig. So far it has been pretty easy to install. On these characters I've only had to translate and scale 1 bone to position the rig. I'm working on my third character with 2 more to go. I'll post some animation tests using the modified A:M Track action file I used in the 2008 rig thread.
