modernhorse Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 So I've looked at Javier's post re: Plasma Rocket and thought ... heck, i've got twenty minutes, i'm gonna start my own. Well, I spent 45 and so far here is what I have. Any comments are appreciated. I've got many details in mind (yes, now its pretty plain vanilla) but I'm open to any thoughts. btw - i'm goin for that sort of retro, dorky look. Cheers! Doug Quote
Iham Wrong Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 Are you planning on giving it some fins or external control boosters? How about mapping some shark eyes and teeth on it for kicks. Quote
modernhorse Posted June 22, 2004 Author Posted June 22, 2004 Are you planning on giving it some fins or external control boosters? Yes, Frank fins, fins are in. I want all sorts of those rivety looking things down the sides. Actually, not rivety looking but rivets. Here's an update. Thanks for peeking. Doug *note - the pic attachment keeps disappearing, dunno why, but I just added it again. Quote
Iham Wrong Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 Are you going to try and use a cylindrical mapping solution or model in the rivets? V10.5r's seems a bit strange, but with the UV editor it works quiet well. Combine that with generous aid of the garbage can displacement map tutorial you should have a killer rocket in no time. Quote
modernhorse Posted June 24, 2004 Author Posted June 24, 2004 Are you going to try and use a cylindrical mapping solution or model in the rivets? I think i'm gonna model the rivets. As far as the texture go ... i'm really unsure how I'm going to approach this. Never really done any texturing, besides experiments (and not too sucessfully). Perhaps I'll do some texture painting on this one. I guess I should check out Will Sutton's tute on the uv editor eh? Doug Quote
modernhorse Posted August 18, 2004 Author Posted August 18, 2004 An update. I ditched fins in favor of legs. Still need to work on rivets - my attempts at modeling them were unsucessful. Doug Quote
R Reynolds Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 FWIW, I find this four patch (2 kb) rivet head model works pretty well. Especially if you apply 100% normal averaging. Let me know if you want a copy. Quote
gschumsky Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 I can attest to Rodger's rivet. I've used it on a number of odds and ends (a robot and a rocket if memory serves). It's small, and you can add hundreds if need be without adding too much overhead to your model, and they look great no matter how far or close you get to the model. Now to have the patience to add hundreds of them to a scene by hand, ala Brian Prince and his pebbles. Quote
Dearmad Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 Quick! Start selling those rivets! Slap a price on 'em! NOW Schumsky's started to sound like a shill! Reindeer... santa schemes...rivets. Got his hands in everything. Quote
SHADOWMASTER Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 GJ so far. I'm just waiting for the badly costumed alien to exit and start abducting people. (Y'know, like old Sci-Fi movies with corny looking spaceships with legs) Quote
modernhorse Posted August 19, 2004 Author Posted August 19, 2004 Sure Roger, put me down for one rivet. I'm actually curious just to look at yours to see why mine didn't work out. Thanks for the looks guys. More to come. Doug Quote
R Reynolds Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 Let me know if it doesn't meet your expectations. rivet_head.ZIP Quote
modernhorse Posted August 19, 2004 Author Posted August 19, 2004 And here's a test render just to give you guys where I'm headed with this thing. I'm pretty sure this is the direction i'm heading. Doug Quote
3DArtZ Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 Cool! when's blast off? Mike Fitz www.3dartz.com Quote
modernhorse Posted August 20, 2004 Author Posted August 20, 2004 Blast off will be a while yet as this is just a test for my first film. I'm working on storyboards now. Its gonna be a while. Next up is finish and/or start a couple of props. Finish storyboards, decide on music (i know what I want to use just unsure if i'll be able to), finish the facial rig on the character and .... probably 1000 other things. Thanks for all your nice comments. Doug Quote
modernhorse Posted August 20, 2004 Author Posted August 20, 2004 I should start a new thread as this really isn't the rocket but heck ... here is progress. Doug Quote
Admin Rodney Posted August 20, 2004 Admin Posted August 20, 2004 Keep it up Doug. Looking very nice thus far! Glad to see you've picked your project back up too. Quote
modernhorse Posted September 14, 2004 Author Posted September 14, 2004 Still working on it though life has accelerated of late. Feel free to give suggestions. Thanks! Doug Quote
modernhorse Posted September 17, 2004 Author Posted September 17, 2004 Yet another update. The look is starting to shape up. What do ya'll think? Doug Quote
modernhorse Posted September 21, 2004 Author Posted September 21, 2004 Update - I'm settled on this look for the terrain. Quote
