Wildsided Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 That looks very cool. Also expensive. Can't afford a Cintiq so chances of affording a holographic display are pretty slim. Still cool though. Quote
John Bigboote Posted August 9, 2018 Author Posted August 9, 2018 Yeah- I would think once they get a little bigger that retail storefronts would use them like crazy for POP displays and such. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted August 9, 2018 Hash Fellow Posted August 9, 2018 Cool looking. Very tempting.I don't think I ever see them tilt the display up and down, only side-to-side so i'm guessing the perspective change only works horizontally. Quote
John Bigboote Posted August 10, 2018 Author Posted August 10, 2018 I see them popping-up at McDonalds with holograms of the perfect Big Mac and fries and such before we will get them in our homes... a friend recently told me that the porn industry has a big history in oncoming technologies... it put movie projectors in peoples homes in the 50's... betamax and VCR's in the 70's... it was highly influential in the mainstreaming of the internet... Good observation about the up/down tilting...hmm- that would be a big limitation. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted August 10, 2018 Hash Fellow Posted August 10, 2018 you can only ask questions if you are a backer but, fortunately, a backer has had my same question. From their comments page ... ...However, I feel you should disclose two things: 1) The 3D Effect ONLY works when moving side to side, NOT up or down. 2) The likely resolution of the generated image will be fairly low, I estimate 800x800 or thereabouts You're absolutely right! The Looking Glass is a horizontal parallax only system with the 45 changing views in horizontal orientation. The output resolution is a little harder to describe with a single number, since each eye is exposed to up to five views at a time, so there is a greater perceived synthesized resolution than the strictly input resolution divided by 45 (per eye) would indicate. Happy to show you what it's like in person if you are in Brooklyn or Hong Kong anytime soon!! I suspect it will look rather less impressive in person Maybe like those lenticular 3D photos with the plastic ridges on the front.anyone in Brooklyn or Hong Kong? Quote
