African grey?

Recommended Posts

Just a little and kind'a silly question:

What is distinctly african about the color scheme "African Gray"?

Oh, and another one: is it possible to turn the splash screen off, say in the preferences or otherwise?

Perhaps it was a nod to the monochrome styling of some traditional African art...

No, it is not.

When this has been discussed before, Martin has said that the splash screen should remain.

Thanks for the answers, Robert! (Love especially the first african mask, square mouth and all)

Regarding splash screen: it could be argued that - in the name of personal freedom of choice - there should be an user option to turn it on and of...

African Grey is a type of parrot. I think that may be what the color is referring to.

And one of the Hash people was a parrot keeper, i recall.

Jeff Paries, I think. I remember the parrot featured in one or more Martin's Minutes posts.

Yeah a very very smart parrot ! That’s the theme I use in AM - grey space places more emphasis on the model and modelling in space and is great on the eyes, I usually also set object lines to black and unselected points to red and selected points to black, find the interface to be easier on the eyes

I actually had a congo african gray (all black beak) and a timna african gray (tan upper beak).

Congo had a mean streak, the timna was about the friendliest bird. not that it even matters but just wanted to randomly blurt that out. Most don't know there are different types.

Cute story the timna picked up the door knock sound perfectly and the congo would hollar out Hello?!. Drove us crazy.
