*A:M User* Roger Posted August 15, 2015 *A:M User* Share Posted August 15, 2015 Saw this posted, I have a feeling this is one of those "if you have to ask" type things (with regard to price): http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/08/samsung-unveils-2-5-inch-16tb-ssd-the-worlds-largest-hard-drive/ Would be nice to have that much space on an SSD. Admin Rodney Posted August 15, 2015 Admin Share Posted August 15, 2015 I saw an estimate as $7000. Perhaps Samsung will surprise everyone though. I think I'll wait a few years for the price to level off. At this point I would like any SSD with any amount of storage space.. as I don't think I own one. Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted August 16, 2015 Hash Fellow Share Posted August 16, 2015 2.5" drive. That means it would fit in a laptop?Does more RAM mean more power consumption?
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted August 16, 2015 Hash Fellow Share Posted August 16, 2015 I got a 200GB SSD for my computer and it is somewhat faster but I found out I couldn't get the maximum performance out of it because my motherboard doesn't support a particular mode that is needed for that. *A:M User* Roger Posted August 16, 2015 Author *A:M User* Share Posted August 16, 2015 Robcat: yes, it would fit in a laptop. Not sure on power consumption, it might consume more than a smaller drive but still less than spinning a platter at 7200 rpm, I'd think. Rodney: You may want to look into the Seagate Momentous hybrid drives. They are a regular laptop drive with an 8GB SSD "cache". After the drive "learns" what data you use most, it is nearly as fast as a regular SSD. 512GB SSD is currently the sweet spot as I think you can get them for about $180 on sale. That same amount would maybe get you 1 terabyte hybrid drive.
Fuchur
ssds consume less than hdds. more ram = more power consumption but not much... most other components need more power than ram.
