Simon Edmondson
http://vimeo.com/50338145 A friend spotted this. An advert for the French postal service. It is certainly made to look looks as though done with paper but, I would guess that it is in fact CG (?). It looks remarkably clean and uncreased for a start ! It is beautifully executed, however . simon
MMZ_TimeLord
Yes, that is one to grab and go through frame by frame. LOTS going on in there! Nice find! NOTE: Was going through it frame by frame and I believe it IS real paper! If not it's got excellent textures. There ARE creases and folds on the surfaces! You can even see where the shapes were glued together.
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted January 26, 2013 Hash Fellow Share Posted January 26, 2013 Great spot! I can't imagine doing that with real paper, it's just too fussy. I'll vote for CG. There isn't a lot of info on it out there but this page credits a CGI animator http://www.onedotzero.com/video/50338145/
Simon Edmondson
There were two things that made me think it was CG really. 1 it was so clean, 2 the camera moves. I haven't gone through it frame by frame yet but, whichever methods were used, it took a phenomenal amount of pre planning and preparation. regards simon
Wildsided
I'm calling CG on that one. Stop motion (which is effectively what paper animation is) has a 'look' to it and this just doesn't have it. Take flushed away by Aardman Animations. That was CG supposed to look like stop motion and you could still tell it wasn't stop motion.
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted January 26, 2013 Hash Fellow Share Posted January 26, 2013 I wish there were more info out there on the "making of" but they tend not to talk about such things. I'd like to know how they made the edges of the paper. It's not like the look of a single thickness patch that we have in A:M.
John Bigboote
Beautiful... yeah the perfect quality and swooping camera flying thru objects says CG.
