Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted January 24, 2011 Hash Fellow Posted January 24, 2011 Kevin Smith will be sidestepping regular theatrical distributors for his new film and doing a one-city-at-a-time roadshow. http://www.slashfilm.com/kevin-smith-buys-...lfdistribution/ of course, this is much more feasible for a famous name like him to attempt than it would be for one of us with an independent film, but I will be interested to see how he fares. Pretty much this. Not spending any money on advertising when you're Kevin Smith touring the country doesn't seem like that ridiculous of an idea, but it'll be interesting! Quote
largento Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 That's my take on it, too. He's built up enough of a faithful audience that he can count on, that it makes sense for him to bypass the middle-men. The podcast network he's built up over the last few years is a giant advertising network at his disposal. I don't think he made many friends announcing it the way he did, though. Quote
Admin Rodney Posted January 25, 2011 Admin Posted January 25, 2011 I've never cared for Kevin Smith's sensibilities but it's important for power people to take risks like these. Especially when it comes to established distribution methodologies and/or breaking away from these. It just might loosen up something new that is worth pursuing. I note that (if it is to be believed) this is reported as his second-to-last movie. This makes it more reasonable for him to spend the better part of the year on the road rather than on creating new movies. Correction: It looks like a 15 day tour. Whatever happened to the Star Wars TV series he was reportedly involved with? Quote
