jakerupert Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 In doing some clayrenderings with the nullshader and the settings of Tralfaz I find , that though decals are switched off, they do render anyway. 15i on PC Is this some known issue? Should this be reported? Any workarounds? Oh well, please not deleting all the decals.... And second I find some black spots/lines mostly, where I used hooks. Is this indicating some problems for rendering scenes lateron? For the clayrendering I could live with retouching in Photoshop, since I only need stills for the time being. Quote

"Show decals" ON OFF is only for Shaded mode. It shouldn't affect Final, AFAIK. Any workarounds? Oh well, please not deleting all the decals.... You could SHIFT-select and delete all the images in your images folder. that would be quick. And second I find some black spots/lines mostly, where I used hooks. Is this indicating some problems for rendering scenes lateron? Are your normals all the right way? Could be weird spline continuity also. Quote
jakerupert Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 Robcat thank you, your answer helped a lot. Though the sense of not being able switching off the decals in finalrender escapes me. You can turn off hair also. Is there any reason for this? >Are your normals all the right way? Could be weird spline continuity also. in the middle of the spline. But doesn`t seem to affect my final renders (except for toonrendering). So I can live with it. Quote

Hair can take a long time to render so you might want to switch it off, to test lighting in Final mode maybe. Decals don't add much to Final render time so turning them off may not be a big need. They can make a noticeable slowdown in real-time so that may be why there's an option to turn them off. Quote

Also in some cases, you might like to be able to render final without decals easily. Maybe a featurerequest for the future? Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted December 30, 2009 Hash Fellow Posted December 30, 2009 That switch isn't even visible if you've selected Final render. That was enough to tell me it didn't apply. Quote
HomeSlice Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Though the sense of not being able switching off the decals in finalrender escapes me. If you want to final render without decals, go into the Decals container for your model and set the Percentage property for each image to "0". As far as I know, this is the only way. Quote
NancyGormezano Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 A very quick trick method to do a clay render with already decaled models is to make your models "front projected targets" in the chor, and use an all white image for the camera rotoscope as was done here with AI = 100% and AO = 100% no need to set decals percent = 0 - however the bump maps will still show - the color maps won't - if you don't want bumps then you will have to set their % = 0 the front projected property is found in the Options area for the model in the chor Quote
HomeSlice Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I forgot about that one Nancy. That's a nice trick. Quote
jakerupert Posted January 1, 2010 Author Posted January 1, 2010 >That switch isn't even visible if you've selected Final render. That was enough to tell me it didn't apply. In the toolbar you set decals or/and furr to OFF Then you choose , if you do a finalrender or shaded wireframe etc. Then you expect it to work that way. Since it seems to be not a big thing to program it that way (just puting the decals to "0"), it seems to make sence to improve AM in that way. O.k- there are that workarounds allright, but why don`t make things easier for the new users , that follow us? I don`t say, it`s a bug anyhow, but would AM rports be the right place to ask for such a feature request? Quote
Ersatz anime Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 decal percentage is animatable so you can put it on a pose, hit on for no decals, off for them back or viceversa Quote

I don't think this is something new users will want to do. You could make a feature request of it, but since there are already 3 other ways to do it, I don't think it would get much priority. Better to solve bugs. Quote
