Darkwing
Well, for no real reason, I've decided to start building a galaxy class starship. I'm thinking about maybe doing a whole line of star trek vessels and then I don't know what! I know that I am going to use my Galaxy class to play with doing special effects like phasers and shields and warp and etc.
Mechadelphia
That's interesting. I was just thinking about modeling a Defiant model from DS9 as a change of pace from my work. Maybe I will now... Good luck Darkwing
Darkwing
Here is just another pic showing the hull and deflector in work. I suggest you do make a defiant, I would be interested in seeing that ship built with AM. My next goal after the galaxy, is to attempt a sovereign!!!!! Darkwing
Definitely rotoscopes! There are some great trek ones. Go to Star Trek Schematics this site is absolutely amazing!! You'll find all that you need for the defiant here. Also Ex-Astris-Scientia has some schematics. That'll take you to the defiant.
Darkwing
Here's where i'm at after a few hours. i am woindering why my displacement map on the nacelle is black around the edges.
Darkwing
Here's more showing textures.
largento
Starting to look pretty cool! The main part of this ship isn't quite right, though. The real model comes to a pretty sharp edge around it... I did a quick search around and found this image... Not the best for seeing the whole thing, but to give you an idea of what I'm seeing: Might help to find a roto of the top or bottom view to see that outline. largento
I found these (might be helpful):
Darkwing
I had the top ones, just not the separated pics. That'll help cause I want to make it separate!
Darkwing
Well, the two nacelles are almost finished, just a little tweaking has to be done to them. Largento, when you mean sharper, do you mean the saucer, or the hull?
largento
Hey, Darkwing. Looking good! Yeah, I was talking about the edge running around the hull. Looks like you've worked on that.
Darkwing
Oh yeah, I was looking at it in the front view and the model wasn't looking right, so I turned the rotoscope back on and found that there was a sort of dip on the sides of the hull. It's a good thing you don't see the back, it's still a little messy!
Darkwing
Black makes a displacement inset to the model, right, because it doesn't seem to be working
Paul Forwood
Check the normals on your model. If the normals are inverted then the displacement will appear to be reversed.
Chrury Sanson
Heh. That last one looks like the Borg have started to stick their excess junk on the main hull. Great model Mr. Captain ,Sir!
Darkwing
Thanks, as for the normals, I'll check that out.
