dingo Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Howdy, anybody going ot E3 this year? Should be some pretty interesting stuff going on with all the next gen boxes coming out. Quote
mediaho Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 No way I'm going to that madhouse until they ban all the outsiders, kiddies and fanboys. Quote
dingo Posted May 7, 2005 Author Posted May 7, 2005 Usually only see the fanboys, and kids on the last couple of days, as people have given up their passes. Quote
nixie Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 under 18's are banned this year, quite strictly so I understand. Nixie Quote
starwarsguy Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 Nobody wants gamers there at the beginning. They need to sell their product, not to you, but to everyone else. Strictly business. It's like a big business meeting for game developers. Usually they are more leniant on the last few days. If you do get in, you're very lucky and have fun! PS3 looks absolutely amazing though. Last time I checked, the PS3 card was smaller than a thumbtack, skinny as paper, already 14 times more powerful than PS2, and still gorwing. Unreal Tournament 3 is also going to revolutionize game engines. The in-game renders look like cinematics. AMAZING! And BF2 comes out soon, yay! Now I'm just rambling. Sorry. Quote
mediaho Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 I saw the new Unreal engine running at GDC. Holy crap. It looked nearly as good as the Final Fantasy (Spirits Within) movie in real time. Quote
dingo Posted May 11, 2005 Author Posted May 11, 2005 Last time I went to E3 was when xbox, and gamecube debuted. Also it was the first time for the gameboy advance. It was a really great show, I met a few people from Sega and had a chance to see things in their privat booth, ie. gun valkerie, and Jet Grind Radio future, guys from Smilebit were really nice. I was working for Red Hat at the time and got a chance to talk to the guys at Jim Henson that were using Red Hat as their platform for their virtual puppeteering rig. That E3 was really a lot of fun. Also when I went that time I had Hash send me a box of their flyers for A:M. I put the flyers in one of the shelves near registration(where you can grab free magazines). It was cool seeing people walk by and grab a A:M Flyer, they were gone in couple hours. Anyways, I'm not sure if I'm going next week, but maybe if anyone is going they could set out some A:M flyers. Frank Silas Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 I'll be there, roaming around and at the company booth. I never really want to go at first, but I always learn something new. Make sure you make it down to Kentia Hall where a lot of the small independants are at. I usually get some of the coolest free stuff from down there and I've made some really good contacts too. Usually on the main floors they are not willing to give you the time of day if you are looking for a job or looking to partner with other companies. If you want to do that with the big dogs upstairs then you need make appointments with them before you arrive. Also, some of the exhibitors (even big name ones) will only have rooms in the halls/Concourse Halls or at the BACK of Kentia Hall. There's big things going on in those back rooms. Have fun and good luck! Frank Silas http://www.franksilas.com Quote
ufoman4 Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 im kind of one of the fan boys kind of.... i went to the first E3 witch was open to the public. everytime i went i went to see what a company was doind that i had stock in. im ashamed to say it was atari. i recently sold out of the new atari, but have a little more fath in owning them now and then because i feel like i have a better idea of the stock market, and they know atleast something about games. BUT ANYWAY i dont know if i should go or not. everytime i have went about 3 or 4 times (probably 3) i never had to show any proof at all that i had anything to do with the industry, and i registered on the web last time. i just picked "investment/banking" anyway i felt justifed. iv noticed that they have had an ad campain in lots of gamer magazines advertisesing the E3 and basicly saying YOU CANT COME. i dont think ill even try. it costs alot and you get to see lots of coverage in the web now of whats going on inside the day it is shown. and they sopt light stuff perty good. i think they like to let a few gamers in unoffficaly. i think if i deside to go i wont register the first day. because they have sort of put their foot down this year and their have been to many incedents with people acting like jerks stealing games, but im guessing they will intentionaly laxen things up a bit the last 2 days if not the first. i didnt even have to get sneeky to get in, not that i would. i think its like 350 for a floor pass and thats alot of money ya know!!! i only took ONE pic with the models!!!! and it wasnt a HOT one. i should go just to get as many pics i can of me with ultra hot chicks! gschumsky Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 I'll be there and I'm really looking forward to it. One of the things regarding admission, they're requiring that anyone going has some sort of ties to the game industry in the form of two id's. That can be a company credit card, a magazine ad and business cards (together), tax id, w4 from your company, your last paystub...so, how people who aren't involved in the industry without two of those to get in will be amazing. So, those who are going, maybe we can try and hook up and say Hih by the Hash booth? We plan on mostly checking out manufacturers as well as talking to some other independant studios about their distribution plans, etc. So, hope to see some of you guys there! Greg Quote
Mr. Jaqe Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 I wanted to be there really really really really, a whole lot, much, but "noooo", it had to be during my pre-exams... I'm both a "kid" and a "fan boy", but I'll still try to get there next year. Quote
gschumsky Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 WOW! What a show!! Thousands and thousands of people. Took us about an hour to get our passes (verification line then passes line). Lots of interesting people with lots of different backgrounds. The south hall was the loudest and darkest (it was like a huge rave party almost). Downstairs where Hash was it was more like an industry convention...lots of business going on with developers, manufacturers, people who made input devices. West hall was more tame with a majority of the family entertainment companies like Sony and Nintendo (and they had the new Batmobile on display). Overall a long day but a good one. Maybe we'll have a booth next year downstairs too. Never made it to the north hall... Greg edit: Btw, Hash was the only 3D software company there from what I saw. They had a pretty good crowd around their booth too during Greg's demos! Quote
