jamagica Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 I was thinking about how I'm starting to get into building structures and said "well, Willy Wonka's factory has many interesting shapes and structures.." Not only that, but it'd be really fun to make the candy machines and even just the building itself! I started by planning to sketch out some concepts of what's going to be in the building. I've scanned my first one and posted. I'm excited just thinking about this.. Quote
jamagica Posted December 22, 2004 Author Posted December 22, 2004 Ok...here's another: The Taffy Maker Quote
chris Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 This may help with some new inspiration, did you know a new "Willy Wonka, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" movie is coming out in July of 2005? It stars Johnny Depp and is Directed by Tim Burton. Check out the trailer here: http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/charliechocolatefactory/ Quote
jamagica Posted December 22, 2004 Author Posted December 22, 2004 That was actually something I saw that sparked the idea...looks funny! Quote
jamagica Posted December 22, 2004 Author Posted December 22, 2004 Here's the plan: I'll be posting up some more machines, finally a Top view of the fully buidling, and then start modeling! Quote
starwarsguy Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 I saw that preview a few days ago before Series of Unfortunate Events, which actually wasn't that bad. Johnny looks and sounds different in every movie. He rocks! Quote
jamagica Posted December 22, 2004 Author Posted December 22, 2004 Ok...I'm starting the car down the road to a huge project..here's the Meal Gum maker...I did this because I loved that part in the old movie when the girl eats a meal with a single piece of gum and turns purple and--anyways, here it is: Quote
.:shortdog:. Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 Good ideas! I look forward to seeing this. Yey Johnny! Quote
jamagica Posted December 22, 2004 Author Posted December 22, 2004 Alright...another one...what my plan is after making my machines is tweaking designs up to make a believable story of how the candy is made, but for now I'm throwing out some ideas...this next sketch is a machine that makes candy called "Teeth shockers".. Ok..time to take a break Quote
paulmcg1 Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 I really like your idea and it sounds like it will turn out great. If you need any help id be more then willing to help you out with whatever you need towards this project. Hope to see this in the production process soon . I didn't know about the new Willy Wonka movie that is coming out thanks for posting the trailer looks pretty good. Paul Quote
jamagica Posted December 23, 2004 Author Posted December 23, 2004 Thanks for the encouragement! Here's a sketch of a building concept, which is nothing like in the movie..I'm trying to be really creative/original here: Notes: * Notice how the telescope is an eye That's it....please give critiques Quote
.:shortdog:. Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 Its strange, but somehow would fit. Looks a bit like a face...intentional? I think it would look better if you either made it more asymmetric, or took out a few of those curves...good luck! Quote
jamagica Posted December 23, 2004 Author Posted December 23, 2004 Good idea..might do that..I was thinking of making something of a nose because I could see a face being in there, but I didn't think that a face would fit in this type of construction/scenario.. Quote
jamagica Posted December 23, 2004 Author Posted December 23, 2004 Alright! I finished modeling the Candy Machine I..I just have to texture (that'll be fun!!) Click below for an animation of a 360 degree view on the model, not only watch it, but also critique it! Note: Due to angelfire policies, you must right click on the link, hit properties, copy the full address in the box that pops up, then paste in the address bar. Or you can just "Save target as..." Website: click on top link Quote
.:shortdog:. Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 I regret to say that I can't see it...tried both ways. Quote
jamagica Posted December 23, 2004 Author Posted December 23, 2004 Fixed it..just click on link and click on top vid on page Quote
.:shortdog:. Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 "Angelfire does not allow downloading of certain file types to protect visitors from computer viruses" Quote
jamagica Posted December 23, 2004 Author Posted December 23, 2004 never mind..ok..I'm switching hosts later, but for now just go into the page, right click on the link and save target as then open Quote
.:shortdog:. Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 I clicked on your link, then onto "Model w/wire (Cand Machine I)" and it only had that message on the page Quote
jamagica Posted December 23, 2004 Author Posted December 23, 2004 Ok..that doesn't work either..that's it..I'll quickly switch hosts..just wait Quote
jamagica Posted December 23, 2004 Author Posted December 23, 2004 EDIT: ok..found a host and am uploading right now..sorry for the inconvinience Quote
jamagica Posted December 23, 2004 Author Posted December 23, 2004 Ok..I'm sick of it. Could somebody host my video with kindness? Quote
.:shortdog:. Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 lol I hope you have better luck later, and can show us Quote
jamagica Posted December 23, 2004 Author Posted December 23, 2004 Hmmm..the zip folder is just over 1 mb...that's not good Quote
.:shortdog:. Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 When it's not one thing, it's another =\ Quote
jamagica Posted December 24, 2004 Author Posted December 24, 2004 Ok..finished texturing..animation will be figured out later..I still have to add some displacment/bump maps on the tubes and path...roughness is al the way up the "slide"...lighting just messes it up: Quote
.:shortdog:. Posted December 24, 2004 Posted December 24, 2004 Thats really cool. The metal on the machine is very realistic. The slide does look a little...strange...though. I'm sure thats easily fixable. Quote
jamagica Posted December 24, 2004 Author Posted December 24, 2004 Yeah..I dont' know what happened. maybe I'll retry texturing, though Quote
Zaryin Posted December 24, 2004 Posted December 24, 2004 Other than that texture glitch, it's looking great. Quote
starwarsguy Posted December 25, 2004 Posted December 25, 2004 That happens to me alot, too. I assume you used roughness and got that glitch. Try making the slide thing curved a little bit. It only happenes to me on flat surfaces (i mean curved horizontal). Quote
jamagica Posted December 27, 2004 Author Posted December 27, 2004 Alright..fixed it...here's the probably almost finished model Quote
jamagica Posted December 27, 2004 Author Posted December 27, 2004 Starting to work on Meal gum maker: Quote
jamagica Posted December 27, 2004 Author Posted December 27, 2004 I looked at my sketch and realized that I have to have the "dropper" on the bottom Quote
jon Posted December 27, 2004 Posted December 27, 2004 what is the ultimate goal here? stills? animations? my initial thought when seeing the latest thingamajig is that the spokes/arms might be too thin to be easily seen. the other whatsamawhosits are sufficiently wacky. '') keep up the good work! -jon Quote
jamagica Posted December 27, 2004 Author Posted December 27, 2004 I'll try your idea about the tubes being too thick...thanks Quote
