jamagica
I was thinking about how I'm starting to get into building structures and said "well, Willy Wonka's factory has many interesting shapes and structures.." Not only that, but it'd be really fun to make the candy machines and even just the building itself! I started by planning to sketch out some concepts of what's going to be in the building. I've scanned my first one and posted. I'm excited just thinking about this..

chris
This may help with some new inspiration, did you know a new "Willy Wonka, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" movie is coming out in July of 2005? It stars Johnny Depp and is Directed by Tim Burton. Check out the trailer here: http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/charliechocolatefactory/
jamagica
That was actually something I saw that sparked the idea...looks funny!
jamagica
Here's the plan: I'll be posting up some more machines, finally a Top view of the fully buidling, and then start modeling!
starwarsguy
I saw that preview a few days ago before Series of Unfortunate Events, which actually wasn't that bad. Johnny looks and sounds different in every movie. He rocks!
jamagica
Ok...I'm starting the car down the road to a huge project..here's the Meal Gum maker...I did this because I loved that part in the old movie when the girl eats a meal with a single piece of gum and turns purple and--anyways, here it is:
.:shortdog:.
Good ideas! I look forward to seeing this. Yey Johnny!
jamagica
Alright...another one...what my plan is after making my machines is tweaking designs up to make a believable story of how the candy is made, but for now I'm throwing out some ideas...this next sketch is a machine that makes candy called "Teeth shockers".. Ok..time to take a break
paulmcg1
I really like your idea and it sounds like it will turn out great. If you need any help id be more then willing to help you out with whatever you need towards this project. Hope to see this in the production process soon . I didn't know about the new Willy Wonka movie that is coming out thanks for posting the trailer looks pretty good. Paul
jamagica
Thanks for the encouragement! Here's a sketch of a building concept, which is nothing like in the movie..I'm trying to be really creative/original here: Notes: * Notice how the telescope is an eye That's it....please give critiques
.:shortdog:.
Its strange, but somehow would fit. Looks a bit like a face...intentional? I think it would look better if you either made it more asymmetric, or took out a few of those curves...good luck!
jamagica
Good idea..might do that..I was thinking of making something of a nose because I could see a face being in there, but I didn't think that a face would fit in this type of construction/scenario.. jamagica
Ok..finished texturing..animation will be figured out later..I still have to add some displacment/bump maps on the tubes and path...roughness is al the way up the "slide"...lighting just messes it up:
.:shortdog:.
Thats really cool. The metal on the machine is very realistic. The slide does look a little...strange...though. I'm sure thats easily fixable.
jamagica
Yeah..I dont' know what happened. maybe I'll retry texturing, though
Zaryin
Other than that texture glitch, it's looking great.
starwarsguy
That happens to me alot, too. I assume you used roughness and got that glitch. Try making the slide thing curved a little bit. It only happenes to me on flat surfaces (i mean curved horizontal).
jamagica
Alright..fixed it...here's the probably almost finished model

jon
what is the ultimate goal here? stills? animations? my initial thought when seeing the latest thingamajig is that the spokes/arms might be too thin to be easily seen. the other whatsamawhosits are sufficiently wacky. jamagica
I'll try your idea about the tubes being too thick...thanks
