I didn't get anytime last night to do much but I wanted to play around with the camera angles a bit. I like Ken's camera shots in 2_05_04 so I tried to get a vantage point perspective on a few of the cuts. I didn't really like jumping back and forth to the same angles for the whole shot. In trying to vary the perspective (and I'm certainly no expert on this), I'm hoping to add a little more interest to enhance the story.
I'd really appreciate some feedback on this. My next step is to set up the poses. I want to establish the camera angles first.
In watching this this morning before going to work, I noticed a few things I need to adjust in the lipsync.
I've reduced the file size as much as I could while still maintaining the screen size.

Just got the lipsync done and adjusted the timing to the camera changes. After seeing Ken's shot though, I think I might play with camera angles if it's OK. I used the camera angles that were already set up. Anyway I wanted to show that I am working on my shot so here's the whole shot (56 seconds) with just the lipsync and camera cuts.

Looks Great Jerry!!
I love the star effect in the beginning, the things coming out of the ground are in good time to the music and the present morphing is very smooth!!
Excellent job!

Day 130I would use a bluish ambience light
Coincidently enough, I just happen to have a blue tinted version.
I dinked around trying to reframe this scene because unless you're watching on HDMI or in Letterbox, Mrs. Yoop is barely visible at the bottom of the screen. However... My conclusion became "one thing at a time." I stated from the beginning that I'd like to continually refine TWO, so I'm not obsessing here but I also need to pour a similar amount of time into SO. I'll practice my camera & framing techniques on SO - at least for now.
This looks really good maybe a slight more blue on the edges of Yoop to get a very subtle effect like Yves has only coming from the door and highlighting the edges of her feet and knees and gradually blending with the hot color on the edges of Yoops upper body?
I really like the cold and hot color scheme here.

It is more something along this line that I had in mind.
I think the one that Martin posted has a better mood. The blue offsets the hot colors and gives a nice balance to the room IMO.

Day 132
When I did an SVN Update today; Ulrika, Holmes, Myron & Michael had been conscientious enough to contribute this week. I'm pleased and thankful to them, and hope to see their continued commitment, but the numbers of people working on SO is diminishing - so-much-so that I wonder if we can finish the project. I'll hang in there as long as there's a chance we'll be a "movie company" but when the participation gets down close to zero... Poof! (I'll be gone.)
I also contributed. I committed my latest updates last night. I'm surprised it didn't register. True I'm still on the lipsync but I did contribute.

Katt,
I love the characters and I admire your perseverance to this project. I do think the camera action is a little choppy but it's coming along great!!!
Really good work!!!

I agree with Will. If you used a little blue light, it would make the colors of the shot look a lot better. It looks good now but you need more back lighting IMO.

Oh, that's very close. Let's call it "good," so you can move onto another assignment.
My plan is to make an Edit of the 1st half of the movie then watch it and make notes of any animation polishing we think is needed. We'll post those suggestions into the appropriate threads and you can come back and pick them up later if you feel so inclined. I've noticed that once people have been away from a sequence for awhile, they're more willing to dink on it. We're leaving time in our schedule to do just that.
Do you want me to delete the extra keys and set the frames to hold?
-
Way to go George! I really like what you've done with it.
Thanks Holmes
-
Yaaay! Jeetman does animation!
I like it! You've got some good poses in there. Nothing that doesn't make sense. It's hard to tell how the lipsync is, but it doesn't need to be perfect at this stage. Those pops in the audio are very distracting....we can't leave them in there.
In my higher res rendering at home I didn't hear pops. It's probably because I'm using the lowest quality to keep the file size down maybe?
So the camera angles look Ok to you?
-
I posted in the wrong post so I'm going to repost here.
Well I FINALLY got enough time to finish the blocking. I still need to do a little clean up (delete keys that are not used per KenH's request) and set the frames to "hold" but the initial poses are in place. Here's a render of the poses and camera angles. All crits and suggestions welcomed. I really would appreciate the feedback.
Bear in mind that this is ONLY blocking so you'll see passing through and robotic movements. What I need to know is if the poses are good enough or not.
Thanks,
George
One more thing, As much as I tried to reduce the file, because it's slightly over a minute long, the file size is 11 meg.

Can you set A:M to render in final with back faces off? If you can it would be a huge time saver I think.
You mean to not render faces that would not be seen anyway? The renderer already figures those out in the "computing Patch visibility" step.
or do you mean back-facing patches off like shaded mode can? No.
I mean as in shaded mode. My theory was if you flip a patch then put in a patch with a hole, because the back is transparent, you'd only see the hole. Oh well. Too bad. It would saved a lot of time.

Hi guys,
OK, I have the potential to use A:M at work for some business projects. I've been given an assignment to animate a big assembly project we have going. If it turns out good, My company will let me animate more in the future. I'm currently using my V14 CD so I can do this during work and hopefully not interfere with my SO assignment while I'm home. Not to mention it's great to be able to use A:M for a work project instead of AutoCad and Inventor hehe.
OK I have to model a huge multimillion dollar assembly process and then create an animation of it in action. It's for our company's website to give a visual of what our product does. Again if they like it, I can get another yearly subscription for work. How cool would that be?
I'm trying to experiment with modeling ideas and I came up with a good one for making quick holes in solid patches. Here's my question:
Can you set A:M to render in final with back faces off? If you can it would be a huge time saver I think.

Looks great! But I really wish Trot's run cycle would be adjusted so she'd stop bobbing her head up and down. It looks unnatural to me.
Excellent work!!!
George
-
Ken it looks good!
The only thing that stands out is in Trot's run cycle. I think her head bobbing movement is too wide. If you make that a bit more subtle, I think it would look more natural. And her head snapping up as she stops looks a little too strong as well.
You're an animating machine hehe

Incredible work as usual. I found this site just searching google images. It has a lot of reference pics you might find useful.

Hi George
Here is a sample of how I would solve it. Keep in mind that the proportions are not correct, it was just a quick test. However, since I am bad at explaining stuff, I'll just add a render, wireframerender and the model for you to examine. I did break up the model in smaller parts to speed up the modeling and to make it less complicated to make. Hope this helps
Feel free to do what you want with it
Wow!!! Thanks Stian. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me on this. I will be studying your spline layout. When I get a little more time I'll post my version of the robot.
Again Thank you very much!

Excellent breakdown of your entry Marcos. Thank you. It really helps to understand the capabilities of A:M.

Bring it onRodger graciously gave me his method and I'm very grateful. If I link my post, would you take a look at it and tell me how you'd do it?
The only thing I got at is a work in progress video (time-laps) of a model I made for David Dustin a few years ago. Feel free to take a look:Do you have any video's of you in action or better, any modeling training videos?Oh my God!!! Just checked out the time lapse and I bow to you at the modeling alter hehe.
I want to model the lost in space robot but everytime I try to cut into the round body for the neon voice part cutout, compartments for the buttons or the large side cut outs for the retractable arms, the smooth cylinder gets distorted.
Here's my link. I attached a picture of the robot. If you're not familiar with the show, the Superman like shape cut out at the top has a neon light that lights up when the robot talks. Thank you very much for checking it out and possibly giving me some pointers.

Stian,
All I can say is I had to pick my jaw up off my desk when I saw this. Words can't describe my respect for your modeling skills.
Do you have any video's of you in action or better, any modeling training videos? I'd buy it in a second. To model with the speed and to the degree of detail that you do, you must have a method /shortcuts/techniques that are unique. I wish you'd share your secrets.
So DO you have any model teaching videos? Would you please think about making one?
When you do mechanical modeling like this, Do you peak everything and go back and adjust the bias?
Lastly,
There's a model I started a while back. I posted a question on the best way to layout the model. Rodger graciously gave me his method and I'm very grateful. If I link my post, would you take a look at it and tell me how you'd do it?
Thanks,
George

This is interesting. Now that I've had more time working with my shot (that has a lot of dialog), I have to agree with Ken. I originally felt that I'd be better to do all the facial animation in the action As I did in TWO but after trying it out Ken's way, I've changed to all lower facial animation in an action but leaving eye lids, brows and eye movement to the chor seems to be the better way to reduce bone control conflicts and it does allow for a better workflow I think.
I couldn't argue with a guy who did a minute of animation in about a week

If I would have only had to choose 1 then it would have been really hard but for me, there were 4 that just jumped out at me making the voting a bit easier thankfully.
Great job on all the entries you guys!!!!!

LOL I give up. I'd have to write a mini-book to answer Vern and others.
So I'm done with this thread. Thank you. It was very enjoyable trying to debate the undebatable hehe. You can't debate someone who's convinced the President deliberately mislead the American people to start a war and cause thousands of casualties for what oil? Oh and this isn't some leftwing nutty POV. It's an absolute FACT! Just ask Vern. Apparently the Dems who oppose the war and would rather we lose anyway don't have the info to nail Bush. After all it was just for oil. Well one does. Dennis Kusinich. He's been trying to get Bush impeached for the deliberate misleading and intelligence tampering to fool the American public so he could have his war. It's amazing to me that apparently the government doesn't have the same info that Vern has. Vern, you should bring your facts to Washington and help Kusinich Impeach Bush. If you have the absolute proof, then as an American you are obligated to present this evidence.
About gutting the military Vern, You apparently hear something totally different than I do LOL
Robert,
Sorry I wasn't talking about Canada when giving the example of the guy waiting for 3 years for a dentist. He was a Brit. Just do a search for people pulling their own teeth and you'll find a bunch of stories about it. The argument I was making was about socialized medicine so it still fits.
I'll end my post with this observation I've made just talking to people who believe that the government can provide health care for everyone.
The same people who will tell you straight out that our American government is corrupt and all politicians are crooks will tell you in the same breath that these same government corrupt and crooked politicians are going to provide good, honest and legitimate health care for all.
Give that some thought LOL.
All I can say is I seriously hope enough Americans see through the Obama Hype.
OK back to animating now.

I was thinking more of a dumbfounded look. When I was playing the shot to get a feel for the poses and expressions, everytime I hit that spot where Tin is reacting to Pessim's dumb comment, I see Tin giving him a look of, "huh?".... it makes me laugh every time.
If you look at the first post, the original camera set up is there. It's basically the same camera angle for Tin and Pessim that alternates back and forth as they talk.
Thanks for the input Ken.
