  1. Hi,

I would like to start something for the Yoop castle...

But I would need help for element like trees , forest around , plants and other special effect like grass , sky, texture and so on. There's lot of space for collaboration on this...

I would do a basic set-up of the castle and do the integration of misc stuff or/and pass-it on for more effect?

It could be fun ? Is it sound good ?

    Al

The basic set we need is her room to start with, where we first see her, for the animators to move around in. With the fireplace and table and chair. I'm suggesting we work out the sets with primitives for placement then we can assign specific objects: tables, fireplace, etc. to whomever cares to.

  2. model is uploaded

    got it thanks its great

David, do you want me to send you (or upload) the hay cart?

    Yes please.

    Cheers

David nice start hows it coming?

  3. "Rig works great hat dynam a bit much........"

    BT

The hat dynamics can be tuned via a pose slider. I tuned it down in my animation (above). It's really fun to animate. I'll try to get a more polished animation pass uploaded tonight.

And how are you guys attaching these files to the forum posts?

    Frank Silas

Thanx frank, Ill check it out

    BT

That rig is fun to work with!

Its great Love the fly catchin.

  4. At this point I haven't done more than placed the "new" head on the"old" body and done some minor adjustments. I plan to take it from there.

Bob wants to use the new head on a body somewhere between the original

and the reproportioned one. I'm also going to simplify the joints. There is also going to be modesty plates (instead of the kilt from the original design).

The new head on the old body: Bobs modification with Pauls ps retouch (will be used as ref)

If its the pic on the right.... It looks great and actually I like your ingraving!

  5. In the animatics, who is the story we work on , Mrs Yoop is scalable...

When she talk to woot she scale down to his size and when she wanna scare , she scale up.

So the real size of Yoop is not really known but she definitively live in a big castle...

so set should be quite big ... designed for a 30 ft tall giant ? not sure ... seem a bit too much... 12 to 15 fts is quite big too ? 0f course Yoop can be bigger and have her head to touch the roof...???good question.

Maybe Bob can give some presisions on that ?

PS: I think size is important regarding texture resolution isn't it... scale down character is better than make it bigger...Yoop would have more high res map used...

    Thanks

    Al

A good giant is 15 to 20 feet tall assuming the tin man is 6 feet tall.

  6. Bear with me, Hutch. I think we need to take a look at the whole face instead of tweaking little areas one at a time.

I've done some retouch work on one of your images to show what I want to aim for.

We need to soften a lot of corners and edges, especially around the mouth. The corners of the mouth need to tuck in under the cheeks instead of ending at a point. Soften the edge of the lower lip and almost remove the presence of the upper lip.

The eyes need to be further apart. The eyewhites need to be narrowed from side to side.

The cheeks need to be quite a bit fuller and more droopy. And add a slight hint of a chin.

The overall shape of the head needs to be rounder. Maybe the hat can be raised some or tipped back to show more forehead.

I hope posting an image is clearer than me trying to explain things. I can draw better than I can speak or write.

    Thanks,

    Jim

On the nosey Jim. Great job Hutch. We're almost there... 72 minutes, feature length.

  7. I have been doing a little experimentation with Scarecrow. Changed his eyes, added a nose and eyebrow decals and did some poses. Here is a quick little animation. Just food for thought if you will.

looks great hutch this may help

  8. Ken,

About the toes, its a big toe with the rest of the feet... not like two toes.

The big toe is use to hold the sandal , we say in french "les babouches ";)

    ...see what I mean ?

About the face, maybe you should drive your modeling from the front view ? it's the main one IMO.,

and adapt the side one to front proportion...

As it is , in front view the head look too upward so it doesn't fit with the rotos and give us this false impression that it doesn't stick to the ref.

But do as you feel it...

    Al

What do you think is the best way to handle skirt ?geom?

    BT

  9. Oops! Hold it, Matt!

Here's a sketch from Bob that makes me very glad he's directing. He can do it all.

    Isn't this perfect?

    Jim

I really like this character. I can see him doing what scrat did for ice age

Thanx , checks in the mail..............

  10. Here's the start of Mrs Yoop. The design is Alains and you can see it here:

    http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18330

The front and side sketches don't exactly match up, so maybe things might be in the wrong place/proportion. Let me know how it's going Alain/Bob/Jim.

    Also here's the wire....

great start Ken ,watch the chin what you have is actually that flab connecting to neck chin sits in that mass about 13 the size of the neck mass also nose could be a little wider more animal like.think hippo

    BT .

Another quick update. Lots of tweaking tomorrow. I used a model Alain sent me for the limbs. Also, I have to add more splines to the mouth.

head and body shot looks great ,dont be afraid of a bigger Butt supporting that nasty tail.

    your good man!!

Very few will agree with me but I have a tendency to push the nuetral pose into almost an at rest expression body and face ,you know, I call them casket poses .relaxed but still you ,when you had life.Rodan like..tension relaxation.I used to have shouting fights with one of my great modlers over this. Its subtle ,barely noticible but for lazy animators it always look alive .also I have a tendency to not make models totally symetric ..like life distorted mirror stuff.im not suggedting it just sharing. with you Im a push the envelope guy,got my fired alot......

  11. Just checking in to see if I have the basic proportions down OK for the turkey that pulls the cart in the Winkie village as I am only working from a side on view.

    Cheers

    looks fine to me .

  12. Oh. Okay. I was just writing this when you moved the thread so I am posting it here and you can then delete.

Regarding the current state of moral on this project:

I really think that it's time people gave Bob a break! We need someone to take responsibility for hard decisions and to ralley people around the same vision for the story. Bob has done a great job in getting the backbone of a movie layed out in his animatics. He has brought to it humour, character, dialogue and something solid to get to work on.

The problem with this project has always been a lack of communication. People waiting for direction, feedback, inspiration. There has to be someone making sure that everyone is getting the same story.

Bob seems like a nice enough guy to me. He said in a previous post that if you think you have a better way of doing something then show him. Make him see how your vision, of whatever aspect is concerning you, will make the movie better. There is still flexibility in this project, as I see it, but we all need to focus on the vision of the director or we will just go around in circles ... forever. I would rather make a movie and have my say just now and then.

Just so long as there is some clear and regular direction everyone can enjoy this experiment.

Thanks for the comments regarding the suggestion for the pelvic cowling. Glad it's of interest.

The knees were bothering me so I just pushed it a bit further. The thighs could do with slimming down now and the knee plates should be smaller I think. The boots could take more engraving .

thank you Paul for your support and I really like what youve got there have you shown it to JIm?You might email him with the link in case he hasn't seen it.

    BT

  13. Bravo!

I loved it though I wonder how flexible you will be about the timing, Bob. Will there be room for discussion and suggestions when we all get moving on this movie?

I would prefer to see a slight pause between Nimmie Ammie refusing Tinman's offer and Tinman speaking. Time for him to take in what she has said. Time for his face to express some tinman emotion. But that's just the way I see it.

    Hi Paul;

Yes, absolutely, these are just first hits on my behalf. The animator is king in my book, and timing is always up for grabs. The rule is: make it work. I was always stealing frames and time, and I expect everyone else will, within reason... I mean no going off on your own short when it was supposed to be a 2 sec shot.

    BT

Great! It's always like a present getting these. I'll have to watch them all in sequence now. :D

One thing....Nimmie doesn't remember Tinman, but then she berates him for leaving her without a word.

Ain't that just like a woman?

  14. If I were a cynic... a cynic making an animated feature... I'd be looking for ways to get free publicity for it. And knowing that mainstream distributors only want films with pre-sold elements, I'd start looking into... celebrity casting!

Not just any celebrities. Celebrities who need the work. Desperate celebrities who will work for just "scale".

Ok, I know we can't even afford to pay "scale" to TWO voices, but just as an exercise I started thinking... who are some people who generate press whenever they surface, can actually deliver lines, and just might do it. Here's what i came up with:

    TinMan..........Lorenzo Lamas

    Scarecrow.......Justin Guarini( American Idol runner-up)

Nimmie Amie.....Monica Lewinski (famous White House intern)

    Woot............Mike Tyson

Mrs. Yoop.......Tammy Faye (Baker) Messner (the former TV evangelist)

Tin Girl........Tonya Harding (former Olympic skater)

    KuKlip..........Robert Blake

Ozma............Ann Richards (former Texas Governor)(probably not desperate enough)

    King Bal Loon...Joey Buttafuoco

    Big Loon........Vanilla Ice

Tarnished celebrities perhaps, but only three have criminal convictions.

What film reviewer could resist writing about a movie with a cast like that?

I e-mailed Miss Lewinski when I first thought of this idea. Alas, her mail box is always "full".

    hahahahaha thats a freekin riot

  15. Brilliant!

I think that you are doing a magnificent job, Bob, particularly this recent animatic. You are really laying down a strong foundation. Something secure to build on.

Your locations and interpretation of the characters and mood are excellent and your sketches are a joy. Great direction all around.

    Bravo!

to me he's just ol k-k

    BobT

  16. Super cool again !...

I've been a bit confuse with the action of the apron's stealing part ... but IMO it leave space for animator work...

the Yoop castle part 1 is great too... I like Bob character's design... the proportions are good , they are expressive ... they are not final so they can be adapted to AM 3D modeling.

I would like to know if Bob would share some details on how he procede with is animatic work...

He's technique is strong and it'll be a great learning tut for me and for other surely.

    ... I don't know , things like:

-how much time he took to complete a part

-which software he use (size , format etc )

-Is he drawing directly with a wacom tablet...or he use a scan

-He start with a voice track for a rought timing ? or with music ? or key sound etc

-...look to me that he put some key drawing for a rought timing first ...

and add some in-between to refine action ?

no need for a complete tutorial here , just some pertinent details and comments . it will be very interesting and appreciated

    Nice work Bob

    Regards

    Alain

Thanks Alain. are you on skype? we can talk anytime over the net and ill be more than happy to explain it all

So TinGirl is Nimmie Aimiee? Isn't she back in the house with Chopfyt? The escape is exciting (great music ;) ) but I get the feeling it should be a little longer. A couple more gags would probably suffice.

Thanks Ken I agree longer ...as i get it the real nimmie aimee is with ol chop fit this is the one made of tin made a s a servant for yoop,of course it turns put perfect for the tinman/owl

    BobT

  17. The only part that I think could be improved is where they fall after opening the door--I don't thing that "hoop" gag will look good...

What if the door opens inwards (taking them a little off balance) and also has a step down? They topple forwards into the castle and the door swings closed and latches. Now, not only are they locked in, but they can no longer reach the doorknob using the same trick.

I really like the different transformations Mrs. Yoop goes through as she is talking!

]im not sure about that gag either......... keep the new suggestions coming im going to address this stuff a little further down the line I definutly will .

my struggle now is to try to board all the script to see if its working as a movie and where the general length and feel is then we can move into specifics thanx for your input its most valuable Will.

    bobT

Overall, I like this. I do have an issue with Mrs. Yoop herself. In this she is just straight forward and sinister from the get-go. At one point, there was some talk that Mrs. Yoop could be actually very sugary sweet, but still be very sinister with her actions. Like her voice and mannerisms might evoke more like a fairy godmother but her actual actions more resemble Cruella DeVille. Does that make sense? I think would make her sort of a different villain than we usually find in kids movies.

Hi Paul weve yet to meet, but I appreciate your concern. Shes actually not quite as one dimensional as she my seem now. Some of that is im using my "pete" voice thruout and it definutly gives the character a feel of all angry but in truth I see her "scitzoid ...sweet to meniacal.Ive just got a bit too much testosterone to vibe femine hahahahah.l thanx for the suggestion, as of now i will keep my sights on that issue youve brought up .thanx for the observation

    BobT

    Bob,

your animatics are genius! I both laughed and was scared for the characters at the same time. Great stuff! It's fantastic to see everything comming together under one unified vision.

Quoted for agreement. I really like the way things are looking now. I especially liked this storyboard. Great work! More! More! More!

    Kevin

thanx to Rodney and Kevin for your support...... are you guys animators? Please let me know and point me to your sights or work thanx

    BobT

  18. Bob--I note that you indicate the "gypsy" version of Mrs Yoop in place of the Wicked witch in the Act 1 flashback. And in this section you have an ogress for Mrs. Yoop...

So you want to change the character designs?

still thinking............I actually didnt look at much when I started it may be a coincidence Will Its real fluid right now you and I will get it all together.
