1. Great image! Is the first image only global illumination--using the 5 lights on the ceiling? The 3rd image you said had 16 additional lights to fake global illumination --is that for a comparison with the first image, or does the first image also have the extra lights? I was just confused about the number of lights in the first picture.
2. OK: http://www.zandoria.com/castaway/sinking.mov http://www.zandoria.com/castaway/177.mov
3. I would shorten the torso and make either the shins longer or the thighs shorter, so that the leg proportions are more natural. The modeling looks good, I just think that your proportions need some adjustment....
4. I don't think your mesh is too dense, except in the chest. You can use hooks to go from an area of dense geometry to one that isn't. But I think that yor model is coming out great! If the bird is going to be able to turn his head at all, you need to add a couple of rings of splines between the shoulders and head, otherwise you are going to have problems. The beak being a different mesh from the body isn't a problem, you can assign the points to the head bone or to a "beak" bone that is a child bone of the head so that it will inherit the motion of the head. Version 11 hair does make good feathers, and you can add an image to the hair to give them a more realistic look. There is a thread on the alpha forum that will give you some ideas. or you may wait to do that once V11 becomes the release version sometime next year, if you don't want to risk using pre-release software.
5. But isn't Venom wearing the same simbiotic organism costume that Spidey picked up during the Secret Wars storyline in the 80's?
6. Peter, That is a great online journal! It was really nice to see how your project developed and to kind of follow along and see the work progress. Thanks for posting it!
7. I must have caught this thread too late :( The file doesn't seem too be there anymore....
8. Yep, you will definately want to paint textures to really bring it to life. Don't let it intimidate you...If you have a wacom tablet, that can make it a little easier to control :)
9. Your red color seems 100% red, you may have an easier time lighting it if you tone down the saturation... Otherwise, it looks "Killer"
10. Bump! Here is the flying saucer landing on the beach, final...(unless the director asks for more changes ) http://www.zandoria.com/castaway/200-landing.mov
11. http://www.zandoria.com/castaway/x200.mov The landing rendered. There are still foreground elements to put in.
12. The orange and blue lights are just an animated ambience map. I didn't know how to make the animated decal loop, so I just made a sequence long enough to cover all of the shots that have the saucer in them. I still have to put some foreground vegetation, that I'm still waiting on the tapes... won't be using particles, but maybe a lense flare
13. http://www.zandoria.com/castaway/X202.mov This is the take-off from the beach, after everyone has boarded. I will post some other clips too. Here is the shaded wireframe of the UFO landing: http://www.zandoria.com/castaway/X200-shaded.mov
14. It's the keying from the bluescreen. I will do some touch up to the matte before the final version, but probably not till the end. You can see a couple of spots in the face shadows too if you step it frame by frame...
15. OK heres another go of it: http://www.zandoria.com/castaway/X156.mov The director had me change the attack so that the swinosaur comes in suddenly from the side. There is a temporary background of the ark (but I will have to still composite some palm trees into the plate.)
16. Reminds me of Babylon5, which is probably the kind of look you're going for. I wonder if a hyperspace tunnel needs some refractive effects, since it is supposed to distrort space/time... A "streak" particle emitter can make a pretty nice "star trek" streaking stars effect too, that might look good with your tunnel. keep going!
17. must be the power of the internet... You hear of all these VFX jobs going east, usually to India... But not always, this time to the South East I think the foot looks like it's sliding because the Path is making a tight turn, so the cycle is skidding a bit. It probably wouldn't be noticeable with the nighttime background behind it. Now it doesn't matter since I have to alter the camera so that the swinosaur comes in from the side suddenly and then pans up to watch the feet dangling. There was no sound on the clip I posted, to save space. The dialog wouldn't be helpful since there would be no context for it to make sense...
18. Eric Roberts is one of the other characters. Some baywatch types... you can see the cast pictures at http://www.misscastaway.com
19. Thanks! for the feedback! The director has now decided that he just wants the swinosaur to come into frame from the side and snatch up Joe Millionaire at a certain point in the dialog. So I'll have to redo the camera angle and then I will spend a little more time with the feet dangling out of the swinosaur's mouth.
20. Here' another work-in-progress from the movie "Miss Cast Away". The background of Noah's Ark is unfinished, but the Swinosaur and his dinner are done http://www.zandoria.com/castaway/X156.mov
