  1. Thanks. I'm even considering modeling the Martian itself. I could make a whole little War of the Worlds short. I have also considered seeing what this ship would look like if they could have put legs on it. I like how they did it in the movie, though. BTW. The Motion Blur is set to a default of 20%. I believe in LightWave it is more like 40% and I like the way that looks. What percentage do you guys use?
  2. Here is a short animation to see how the lighting rig works and to test some volumetrics. Martian War Machine in Warehouse
  3. Here is a fresh, higher quality render of the War Machine. After I model the probe, I may do a short with it.
  4. Thanks. This is my first complete animation and could use some cleaning up, but I think I'll leave it so I remember where I started.
  5. Here is a minute and a half short I made a few years back. I recently re-rendered it at a better resolution and added some original music that i put together in GPO. The animation is pretty simple, but that's what I was going for! Phil's Gun Animation - Quicktime - Mp4 codec
  6. Oh WOW! By George I think you've got it! ....must....do... tutorial.....to......learn.......how.......to ......do!!!
  7. Coming along very nicely!
  8. That last one was pretty good! I may need to go back and experiment with rigid body dynamics.
  9. Thanks. I am soooo ready to model the probe! It looks like it's going to be as coplex as the ship itself. I have a vague idea how I'm going to rig it too, but I'll jump off that bridge when I get to it. Woohoo!
  10. Here is an animation of the whole ship with the probe door opening: Probe Door Test (Quicktime 700 KB)
  11. Here is an animation of the probe door opening: Probe Door Test (Quicktime 700 KB)
  12. Update! I modeled the opening that the probe will emerge from and the door. I think I got it pretty smooth.. and still no hard edges on the whole model.
  13. After reworking the War Machine with the refs, here is the result so far.
  14. Oop! Got a major shape adjustment coming up. I found some blueprints that someone (I don't know who drew). They look pretty accurate, do I am going to start adjusting things. Fun! Here is a good ref for the probe i am eventually going to get to:
  15. No prob, you should check out the movie. It is really fun to watch the good sci-fi movies from that era. Directors now could learn from that time on how to make a story-driven movie when you can't rely on Special Effects... even though it did win the Oscar for SFX.
  16. Thanks for the comments everyone! Here's a fun render I did to checl out the ship's lighting...
  17. That would be cool, but it is a reproduction of the actual Martian War machine from the 1953 War of the Worlds movie and I am not sure it can legally be used. I can send you the model when she's done, no prob, i just thought you should be aware.
  18. Thanks! I gotta fix the bottom decal, though. It is acting a little weird.
  19. Updated textures, modeled the Heat Ray "Eye". More to come!
  20. Maybe it was the older version, but I was trying to tweak the bias handles once and something awful happened and I couldn't undo it! Another thing that causes me trouble is getting the model at just the right angle in the view to properly do the tweaking.
  21. C'mon, it's Spielburg! And after seeing Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai and Collateral, I am even more of a fan. I like the approach Spielbrug is taking. It should be good.
