  1. B) DDUSTIN, Besides knowing the 3 rules, the reasoning behind the rules all has to do with rendering. Following the rules helps to avoid creasing and other rendering artifacts. I think it helps a new user to any software to know the why as well as the what.

That said, knowing why the rule is in place also helps you when you need to break the rule to accomplish your task. :)

  2. "Oh please! This whole idea that we need a forum where you can post work and get only nice comments is just ridiculous!" That may be, but I think a forum where you can post something without expecting praise or criticism, wouldn't hurt anything. If you lock the thread wouldn't it get in the way of someone asking a question about your work? I have posted one WIP, when I posted it I wasn'y looking for any pats on the back - it was posted to say "this is what I am doing, if you find anything positive in it fine - don't like it -fine" but I don't want to hear how I did this or that "wrong", wrong is in the eye of the beholder. If someone is against using the proposed forum they can ignore it. What does any of this have to do about being "manly"?
  3. Reading this thread has helped too thicken up my skin a little, I tend to be used to a very balanced (and possibly long winded)critique and not the "short and sweet" web version. It never occured to me being the kind that should "just show my mommy" type that I could put a disclaimer on the thread like "constructive critic welcome only with suggestions on improvement". I guess if I did that I could change my vote from "yes" to "no".

One forum I visit for ideas is "spiraloid", but I could never post there with crits like ""the serratus are too oblique in their positioning over the diaphram proper" but the models can be interesting -spiraloid

Well, gotta go show another WIP to momma......... :P

  4. As a sensitive soul....I would like to be able to post to whip as a contribution to the AM community and if I want a critique I can post to the "critique" forum.

P.S. I really don't understand the critiques of someone "using too many splines", if the finished product looks and works well isn't that the goal? Sometimes it seems to me like there is a 'whoever uses the fewest splines wins' contest. Just my "sensitive" opinion, anyone want to clarify why this comes up for me?

  5. To quote Boston Rob "Can you say dumb ass"? I can't belive my skull is so thick, I bet its in the documentation but I must have missed it.

(EDIT) I thought that if I turned the model in screen 7, it actually rotated the model across the 3 axis.....

Thanks for helping the (thick as a whale omelette) goofball!

  6. As a convert from Lightwave to AM, there is one thing I miss-being able to "grab" and rotate my models in an Open GL panel to check continuity of mesh. I have been fumbling with window "7" to try to manually input perspective views (one at a time) to view from certain angles withour sucess. Does anyone know the numeric inputs to view as follows?

bottom view 45 degrees (Left side angle / right side angle)

    top view - " "

    front view-" "

    left view-" "

    right view-" "

Thanks in advance for any replys :)

  7. By cancel you mean switching providors or cancel-I will never use the internet again?

I suggest leaving your profile active, circumstances may change sooner than one might think. Either way, I wish you luck in your endeavors. :)

  8. :D Absotively, the tentacle is a lot longer than Mr. Martins but the CP's are assigned - 1 bone per section of tentacle ( now hidden), those bones "orient like" a second set with about half that number of bones (now hidden) and those bones lastly "orient like the last set about 1/4 of the original # of bones (visible).

I'm sure this is one of those "is your computer turned on", but I think I'm so flustered I can't see it.

  9. Maybe my comprehension skills are lacking...I tried to use the Gary Martin "Bendy Legs" Octopus tut as a basis for a tentacle I want to do. Unfortunately I cant get the bones to move the model, all the constraints are set up (3 sets of bones-many, less, a few) and they are set at 100%. I tried choreography, action, pose, even model...that darn tentacle just won't move (He's dead Jim). Any advice? Its probably something obvious, Im using 11.N I believe.
