  1. I have posted 30 times so far, giving my $.02 about other peoples issues, that I neglected to provide some fodder of my own (how rude!). Here is one of 3 mdl's I am working on, it is rotoscoped off the head of a (personal favorite) model and mostly the splines follow the "cooper head" tut. at the ARM. Let the abuse begin-

  2. :) One thing that has aided my modelling skills is I started to "model" the items I looked at in the normal "boring" situations" 'in my head'. Waiting at the Dr's office, bored out of your skull? Look at a table...now in your mind "draw lines" around the hard edges of the table. Now imagine connecting those lines as splines / patches...On the Train to work, same deal - look at items passing by and the lines that make up their form, imagine how you would make it in 3D.

After training myself to think in "3D", I now can close my eyes and refine my models in my head, so when I turn on AM at home, the ideas are ready to go.

I also used to draw pretty well and am now very rusty, but I think the key to any creative effort, no matter how many dimensions one is using, is IMAGINATION. If you can think it, I believe with effort (sometimes a great deal of it)- you can interpret it on paper, canvas or computer.

I hope this helps, I love the camaraderie of this forum and the sharing of those involved. It was this community spirit that convinced me to switch to AM.

  3. I just have to add my 2 cents worth, I have been trying to install an ATI RADEON 9600 PRO AGP 128MB in my PC (AMS (CHYANG FUN) G-BOX for about 6 months (on and off), I know the AGP slot works because I can use my JETWAY 128MB card....I know the RADEON works because it was fine when I tested it in my wifes HP PC.....the issues with GART drivers (and ATI instructions in general) are absurdly confusing. "make sure you use the 'correct' GART drivers" but no info on finding out what the right one is. This experience really has me upset with ATI in general. has anyone else had problems installing ATI cards?
  4. The "tech" guys here are still "upgrading" everything, and I still have code. Until I can get this sorted out I am just going to make a one page shortcut cheat sheet so I can at least work on my project.

  5. Last week it was NT, they are doing a "upgrade", so what we will have when they are done is anyones guess. I have 2002 and it runs fine on the same machine, but cannot cope with (process) my 10.5 projects/ Models. I will try the "stuff" files from the FTP right away.

  6. I am using V10.5a and I know the disk is fine, but when I load it on a different computer (away from home). All the sub menue items (save, rename, etc.) look like "code" (A0II:, ETC.). I can't post a screen capture, I uninstalled and re-installed,does anyone have any ideas?
  7. There is one "upgrade" piece of equipment I cannot reccomend more enthusiastically, the WACOM CINTIQ, I only have the 15" (not the 18") but I still drool uncontrollably, every time I boot up my PC. It is a must have for any digital artist (in my opinion)...and no they do not pay me to endorse it....YET!
  8. No mistake, although the wait was longer than expected (I guess that can happen w/ small companies), I am rigging my first character now and so far it has been a breeze- nodeformations of the mesh in action windows, etc. Now I just need to know more about fan bones :D

  9. ;) I'm trying to be a good boy, thats why I purchased AM & TSM, and I am trying hard to learn it. I didn't want to be "Peg Leg Pete" anymore with Crackz & Warez as I wouldn't want that done to my hard work. I hope that affordable programs like AM will help give regular "Joes" like me the chance we could never afford with MAYA, Etc. unless we got the software the naughty way.
  10. :( O.K., after anguishing over a week about my inability to get my characters skeleton right - I ordered TSM online last night. Unfortunately without the serial number for my download I am still dead in the water. Any TSM buyers out there know how long it takes? Steve@anzovin hasn't gotten back to me yet and I've pestered him all day with emails.
  11. Athough I only recently started using AM I have used 3DS Max, Lightwave, and RayDream to model for 3-4 years. I thought modelling was hard...it's a cakewalk compared to setting up a skeleton. I tried the "Art of AM" manual, AM 2002 Complete Guide, Postings from the forum and still when I finish my setup and preview my character in a choreography or action its limbs twist up like a pretzel. I have tried 2001 Skel. & RAF setup V3.0-and both mutate somehow.

I'm being careful to keep th roll positioning correct, and only scaling, translating and rotating the bones AS NEEDED to fit my mesh.

I read things like (in RAF V3.0 Setup Manual) "All you need to do to apply the setup is to 'crank the constraints slider up to 100%'", what the heck does that mean, I don't see any constraints slider option.

    Give me some pointers please.

P.S. I hate being called "newbie", who do I have to irritate enogh to become a "poo flinging monkey"? :)

  12. quite some time ago the place I work for bought AM 2002. It has sat around till now when I asked them to install it on my PC (I use 2003 at home). Unfortunately after about one day it no longer will open. I get an error message

"the instruction at '0x006d51c4' referenced memory at '0x017eb01c'. the memory could not be read".

HASH support said to buy the upgrade...however, that will take some time and arm twisting, as evidenced that it took 1 1/2 weeks for our computer techs to get around to installing it, "Dude...were sooooooo busy".

In the meantime can anyone help? The O/S is Windows N.T. 4.0, 64MB RAM, 1GB avail hard drive space and no 3D accelerator equip.

    Thanks :D

  13. :o AAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! I am in wireframe mode. The view is very close to the hand I am trying to position the finger bones in, I select a bone and everything else goes black....how can i put it "in" the finger if I can't see the darn finger? AAAAAAIIIIIEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
