  1. Hi I was just wondering the difference between Frames animation and time based - for instance what is the relationship between the two or how do I do timing, say for instance if I create a animation which is : • animated over 30 frames • with keyframes at every 10 frames How will this be translated to time code ? Meaning if the time code is 30fps then the sequence would yield only 1 second of animation in SMTP So how do we convert or animate with frames keeping in time with actual errr. . . real time ? What do we have to keep in mind for actual time / timing when animating with frames then outputting to SMTP ? Say I wanted the frame animations to span over actual 24 fps SMTP, would I take this figure of 24 fps an keep it in mind and then animate as usual in frames and set key frames per 24 frames and in between keyframes as well for other motion, knowing that for every 24 frames of animation I am creating 1 second of actual animation in SMTP ? Just getting my head around the conventions, everyone says use frames when animating - but no one says how it relates to video output . . . .
  2. Disregard - Just figured it out . . . What was wrong? I never used that option and did it in the pose right away... *Fuchur* I usually create a action --> animate the pose --> then save action as a pose - I was taught this was so that I can always go back and edit my pose from the action, the problem was I think I turned off key / bone / muscle etc. That's why the pose was not recording the action relationship data . . .
  3. Disregard - Just figured it out . . .
  4. it was working before, but for some reason I cannot save a action as a pose ! I am setting a default constraints of bones in an action window and then usually go -- > Action / Save as Pose but now it stopped doing it. It was working fine yesterday ??? Do I have to reset something ?? When I look in the project window - the relationship is empty ? Help !
  5. Hi all, Scene 01. the shot I would like to create is one of a planet exploding with a solar flare, then of an object floating through space, then the object falling to earth as its pulled in by earths magnetic field ( I hate the term gravity ), burning as it enters the atmosphere - then cut. Scene 02. A shot of the sky over a desert , panning down to the horizon line ( think the roswell landscape ), a glimmer in the atmosphere, then the object hurtling down out of the sky and crashing into the ground, travelling along the surface of the ground and into a creator - yep its a typical alien ship crash landing / the style is a mixture of realistic and CG . . . Any clues . . . I was looking into doing it with after effects post rendering, or I could get some one to animate it in say 3D max - BUT I WOULD PREFER IT TO BE DONE IN AM with minor post effects in AE if I can help it , I am not fond of the idea of mixing applications in production . . . AM IS GOOD ENOUGH TO HANDLE ALL FO THIS - I JUST GOTTA KNOW HOW . . . I have been perfecting my modelling skills so, I haven't gone into detail with lighting and material creations just yet - one thing at a time . . .
  6. Hey! Share with the rest of us so we can figure it out too! I just duplicated the model, imported it back into a project, deleted the model patch mesh, added another bone which I called the " parent ", saved this out to my model repository folder as " Custom Skeleton Rig", then imported it into my library, created a thumb nail for it it PS, import the the thumbnail --> voila new custom rig to use time and time again for all my models :-)
  7. Hey Darkwing, I was looking for a tutorial to do a space scene like that . . .
  8. . . . so can you ? And also does anyone know where I can get a good model for earth . . . yep. I'm doing the alien thing . . .
  9. Please disregard - just figured it out !
  10. Been away from AM so long, just got the new subscription happening ! Ok, how do I add a skeleton rig to the library to re-use it for other models ? Not using the Hash supplied rig - I learned how to use AM a little bit by myself with some help of Momentum Animations ( Now Called Perry Animations ) - so I have adopted the momentum style rig - which is soooo much more less ?? complicated then the Hash one - hmmm . . . south paw style. Any way I'll tinker away at it trying to figure it out hopefully when I check back someone has answered this question ! Thank you all !
  11. Hey thanks heaps guys, I did a bit of research and came across this wonderful thing for people that might be interested in making toys, it involves taking the AM mesh into 3DS Max to create a STL file. http://www.ghost3d.com/gt_ResErect.htm - plugin for max to import AM models and triangulate to STL, looks good . . .
  12. Hi All, I just wanted to see if anyone has any info on making toys with AM. I remember talking to Victor Navone about making Blitz model / statues like ages ago and he sent me some links to toy makers which I have lost, like ages ago. I do know that the models are created on Rapid Prototype Machines and you need to send them to the Toy makers in STL ( Stereolithography) file format for the machines to output, but not how to convert AM models. Animation Master is such a powerful organic modelling application, it is such a waste to not be able to this sort of work with it. If anyone has used AM to create toys or models, I would like to hear about the work flow they used to get the model to STL format and to the Prototype machine.
  13. err . . . disregard that last question, just found it . . .
  14. Hey where is the " the tut link in my sig" ? I am a noob on forums as well - kinda !
  15. Thanks for the help, will look into it, just on the Topic of the new AM, I have been told that Models created with the older version of AM apparently don't work in Am 2008 + ?? Is this the facts here ? I do want to upgrade and also get the 3D Painting application as well when I get my new laptop . . .I wish Apple would hurry up and release the new 17" unibody macbook already so I can get my AM running on a dual OS system -- and mobile !! Just another one while I'm on this topic - say when I get my new mac and I have two mac & windows running on it - when I get the web subscription can I install it on both OS's ? Whih would mean I would need two serial numbers, then what if I want also have it installed on my Dell windows box at home ? What then, would I need a third serial number ? ? I have found that AM tends to crash more often when you use the CD in the drive as a serial key thing. Hey I was just reading the flyer for the 2007 version it says " multicore/multiprocessor support " which is the question I asked in the tech forums, so AM is multicore /multiprocessor enhanced ? Or does it just mean that it can be run in multiple instances just the answers that I got back from the tech forums ? - Thanks Fuchur ! Thanks petokosun, just checked out the vid - now it all makes sense !
  16. Ok, I should have been paying more attention to Dylan at Momentum, rather then dreaming about the beautiful Stephanie Giles ( Work Experience chick - while I was doing my " internship" ) . . .Ahem. Can some one give me a quick break down of key frame animation in AM. For instance when I create a walk cycle according to the AM book, how to I translate this to another action ? Also on walk cycles, if I have a walk cycle, how do I loop it JUST USING KEY FRAMING in choreography ? I have got this to work when I constrain it to a spline path - the cycle loops properly - when I adjust the keyframes - the walk cycle is accelerated - or 25 frames are stretched into say 3 seconds worth of walking cycle ???? Using AM 11, not 2008. I have been told to break actions down into shots and use my editing and compositing skills - BUT - I would like to do a lot more in AM before doing extensive compositing - kinda like in Photoshop - where the raw image is better off the less you do to it in photoshop. Also - what or rather what warrants the purchase of the new AM ? What does it do better then the version ( 11 ) which I am using now ? I have attached Freddy Foxx - my new creation . . . . not finished yet . . . needs teeth. . .a tongue to talk . . .and some other stuff . . . the AM Painting application looks good for this sort of stuff . . . .
  17. It's OK Folks, just figured it out !! Hi Rodney, just open the model in Am ( Any project ) then have a look in the properties window to look at the models properties, you will see the icon ( usually a "thomp" icon ) , clicking on this icon will take you to the windows interface to select a thumbnail icon - yes you have to render the model out and create a 125 x 125 jpeg image of it. Keep you library of models organized, so in your models folder you should have a thumbnails folder where you keep the thumbnails, in this way you can continue to build and create you own custom libraries and keep everything organised - also makes AM more stable when all the default material and models are not loaded into it. ( Not really a newbie - just haven't used AM for ages ) Hope that Helps ! A. Hey. . . wait a minute . . .lol . . .
